BFTB Channel 7 NETWoof News 10/07/2014

"Lazarus, the remarkable death-defying dog."
Bentley: “Thank you for joining us for this week’s BFTB Channel 7 NETWoof News.  We have so much to tell y’all, let’s get right to it.  Our top story concerns a black and brown mixed breed in Ozark, Alabama.  He had been hit by a car and surrendered by his owner.  The poor guy was administered a lethal needle to end his life at a kill shelter.  Once he was still and assumed dead, the vet, and assistant left him.  The next morning when the assistant came to open the shelter, the very much alive dog was in the adjacent outdoor run lapping water.  He has been given a reprieve and the new name Lazarus.  He is currently in foster care, being treated for heartworms and has cast on his foot from the car accident.  I think they should call him Lucky Lazarus.  Now to my co-anchor.  How about it Pierre, are you feeling lucky?  Well, are you?”
Pierre: “Whoa, I’m getting some serious Clint Eastwood vibes off of you.  Let

me just get right to my story.  There will be two new breeds at the 2015 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.  Entering the rings for the first time will be the Wirehaired Vizsla in the Sporting Group.  The Coton De Tulear will sashay in the non-sporting group.  I am wondering if the Coton De Tulear is related to me…maybe cousins.”
Bentley: “I see a resemblance.  I think I may be related to the dog in this next story.  Chaser is a Border Collie that shares his life with eighty-six year old retired psychology professor John Pilley.  Some people say she is the smartest dog in the world.  The professor teaches her as if she were a two-year old child.  It seems that over the last nine years working sometimes five hours a day and five days a week, Chaser has learned the names of over 1,000 toys.  Their interaction is definitely more play than work and she is amazing.  Can you imagine that Pierre?”
Pierre: “Wow that is incredible.  Just imagine having over 1,000 toys!  That’s goes paw-in-paw with my next story and the love hormone.  Dr. Greg Berns, a physician and neuroscientist has studied the canine brain for the past three years using an MRI machine.  He discovered that when a dog smells his human's sweat, its brain releases a hormone known as oxytocin.  That is the same hormone that helps new mothers bond with their baby.”
Bentley: “Mom and Dad know that when I give them that certain look that I am saying “I love you” with my eyes.  We have love in the air here in Blogville.  On the political front, it turns out that the blonde bombshell Stanley Doodle has been secretly meeting is his ex-girlfriend Taffy McTaffersonDory helped the star-crossed lovers meet after sneaking Taffy out of the local convent.  Here at BFTB NETWoof, we enjoy a happy ending and these two crazy pups make a

great couple.  The campaign is back on track with a Blogville Mayoral Candidate Town Hall Meeting scheduled for November 1st.  We will be there to report the action.  Another mayor’s race that is drawing attention is in Oakland, California.  Einstein, a Catahoula Hound has been entered in an attempt to unseat the incumbent.  Activists from the Occupy Oakland movement are backing him, but unfortunately, dogs cannot hold offices in Oakland.”
Pierre: “A Catahoula Hound is the Louisiana state dog.  Maybe Einstein should run for an elected office here.  I’m pretty sure that we have had some dogs in political offices before.  On the sports front, the National Walk Your Dog Week is winding down.  The crews from My GBGV Life and the Cascadian Nomads have had a successful campaign on their blogs.  We are proud to say that we have hit the pavement.  Be sure to check with them for more walking tips.  Cello, the German Short haired pointer, won 1st place in the Elite Division Big Air Finals at Poochapalooza.  With a jump of 21’2” she is one high-flying friend.”
Bentley: “In weather, it appears that nobody told Mother Nature it is fall.  California has heat advisories and freezing temperatures are in the upper Midwest.  Here in the Bayou, I woke Mom up at 5:30 a.m. because a storm was coming.  It was an hour before the first clap of thunder, but it is always best to be on full alert.  It was a pretty tense few hours for this reporter.”

Pierre: “We are happy to be joining Tuesday’s Tails by featuring adoptable pups from our local shelter PetSavers.  Gramma enjoyed working with them at the PetSmart Adoption Saturday.  Several pups found new homes.  You can click on

the PetSavers link here to see all of the available dogs and cats.  October is Adopt a Dog month so if you are looking to expand your pet family, visit a shelter near you.”
Bentley: “Shelter dogs are awesome.  Sugar the Huntington Beach Surf Dog was once homeless and now he is a superstar.  He went from a scared injured puppy to a surfing phenom.  After reading his human’s story, it is obvious that like many rescues, the two saved and changed each other’s lives.”
Pierre: “Thanks for tuning in today.  Don’t forget to enter for your chance to win either a Righteous Hound Tee or a Dog/Cat Bundle of Little Extras from Hill’s Pets under our Current Giveaway tab.  Back to you Bentley.”
Bentley: “We will return to our regular Monday time slot next week.  For Pierre and myself, do something awesome today and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  7. Chaser is such an amazing dog - well her handler is sure impressive as well I might add. Isn't it so great to know dogs have so much in common with us - they're even secreting the same hormones. No wonder we can bond with them so easily. The weather here in Michigan went down to 40 degrees this weekend, winter sure is coming. Great roundup.
