Hands-Free Gate by #RichellPet

This post is sponsored by Richell USA and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger network.  I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Richell products, but M. K. Clinton Barking from the Bayou only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers.  Richell USA/Richell is not responsible for the content of this article.

There are two things common in almost every pet parent’s home.  They have sheets covering the couch and baby gates in the doorways.  When company comes over, we can hide the sheets.  Unfortunately, there are times when we have to keep our furry friends separate from us.
We have a baby gate that has been through all of our dogs and our babies.
I do not miss this gate!
The problem with it is that it’s ugly and you have to climb over it.  I have stepped over it for so long, it is second nature.  That isn’t the same for Granny or Auntie when they visit.  It isn’t very polite to ask them to hurdle a fence to go to their bedrooms or the bathroom.  What is the solution?
Enter Richell USA and their fantastic hands-free gate!  They are distributors of quality home and pet products designed by Richell Corporation in Japan.  All of their products have excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail.  This is the reason many of their product designs have earned the “Editor’s Choice Award” for four years in a row.  (2010 - 2014)

Easy to assemble
I am now the proud owner of the award-winning Richell Hands-Free Pet Gate.  It is 36.6” tall and fits openings 37.2” wide.  This gate is not only beautiful; it’s also made of Eco-Friendly rubberwood.
When the box arrived, I unpacked the contents and felt a jolt of fear at how hard it would be to install.  That was certainly not the case.  It was super simple to put together.  It has an adjuster knob that attaches the gate to the doorway opening using a tension mount.  There is no need for drilling or permanent attachments.  They even have rubber stoppers to prevent damaging the walls.
The specially designed foot pedal opens the gate hands-free.  When you pass

through, the gate snaps closed behind.  If you don’t want the gate to close, simply open it 45˚ and it will stay.  This high quality pet product ranks as one of my favorites.  It definitely makes my life easier and prettier.  It is also nice to know our guests don’t have to hurdle the old ugly pet gate this holiday season.

Such a vast improvement!

The Richell Hands-Free Gate is not certified for children and babies.  It is only meant to be used indoors to keep your pet out of a room they aren’t allowed inside.  It isn’t used for keeping your pet inside the house.

    1. I love it! I store some of their treats in the back room and they know it. He could know down the baby gate when he wanted to follow me. He cannot budge my new Richell gate.

    1. Thanks. It looks so much nicer than the baby gate. I enjoy not having to climb over anymore. Walking through the gate is much classier. LOL ☺

  4. I really like the hands free option with this gate. We have several gates at our house, mostly the wooden kind that you show in the first picture. Do you know if they make these gates with cat doors in them?

    1. Hi Mark,

Richell does have one gate with a cat door.

    2. Mark, the one Kristin recommends would be awesome for you, your dogs, and all of the cats. It'd be great to have at the entrance of your fun cat room. ☺ Thanks for the link Kristin. ♥

    1. It is truly one of my very favorite pet products ever. It solves such a huge problem for me. I always hated the baby gate and I didn't want one of those bulky plastic ones. This is gorgeous and so convenient. Bentley has grown up with at least one gate in a doorway, so it doesn't bother him. He and Pierre did give it a good sniffing when it first appeared. ☺

  6. Wow, Bentley! That gate is sooo nice! I had the same old gate in front of the cat room to keep the dogs from crawling in and helping themselves to cat food. I can't tell you how many times I have slammed into the wall across the hall trying to step over the gate... Short Legs! That one is very nice. Since HiJinx can't crawl through the little hole in the gate, the gate is gone and only a shortie is there now. But if I still had my little guy, I would have to get one of these ;-)

    1. It really is such a cool gate. I've banged my leg on the baby gate way too many times to count. Unfortunately, I can't blame short legs...just clumsy. Haha!

  7. what a great idea - glad someone put some thought into it - although I would worry a smartie dog could figure out how to pres the foot control :) :)

    1. I don't believe a dog would be able to press this foot pedal and open the gate. It is recommended for dogs 8.8 to 88 pounds. ☺ The pedal can be removed and the gate can be opened manually. RichellUSA also has gates without the hands-free option.

  8. Wow!!! I love this gate! I live by baby gates, and I agree, it is a pain to have company step over it, or completely take it down when they are here. I am like you where I am used to stepping over it, heck I would probably step over the gate if the gate wasn't even thee now! lol

    1. That is so funny, because we sometimes have one in our bedroom doorway. I will raise my foot to step over it, then realize it isn't there!

    1. Baby gates definitely fill a need, but it is a pain to continually step back and forth over them. I think when you live with a pet, gates are a part of life. I'm happy Richell USA makes them so beautiful and convenient.

  10. That is an awesome gate! Hands-free is super nice. Now...how long before Bentley figures out that he just needs to step on the lever to open the gate? BOL

    1. It really is awesome. I mentioned to Cowspotdogs, I don't believe a dog could open it by pressing its paw on the pedal. It can be removed if necessary, but it hasn't been a problem here. ☺

  11. We got two similar gates when we got Luke. But they don't have that hands free option....that is awesome!!
We still have one of the old fashioned type gates too that we have to use in a place the others won't fit....and I still trip over that darn thing half the time when I try to step over it!

  19. Goodness! We still use an 'accordian' style expandable baby gate...no longer even sold. BOL!
We keep MJF out of the livingroom so that the WBS can have a doggy free zone. No stepping over it at least.

When MJF was a puppy, growlmy would step over the gate we had then, but soon she could not use the stairs, the stepping over and over had given her bursitis in her hip. UGH. She realized that she was a lot older than she felt...well until that bursitis hurt her so much, our elderly neighbor lady was more able to do stairs than growlmy! OMD!

Gotta check that out! Thanks fur sharing!
