BFTB Channel 7 NETWoof News 3/30/2015

Bentley: “Welcome to this week’s edition of BFTB NETWoof News.  I am Bentley and my job is to fetch the happiest hound news around.  My co-anchor is Pierre the Westie and somewhere on the set is our cute Weather Lab Paisley.  There are a lot of stories, so let’s get right to it.  Pierre?”

Pierre: “Our top story this week is Easter and the dangers lurking in baskets that are so tempting to dogs and cats.  No bunny wants to spend Easter Sunday at the emergency vet because of their pup decided to see if chocolate rabbits taste as good as they smell.  That colorful Easter basket grass is not the kind of fiber we need in our diets, and I don’t want to hear a “Peeps” from any of you.  Those sugary delights would not settle in our tummies.  Please make sure that all of the Easter treats and sweets are kept out of the reach of your dogs and cats.  No matter how much we beg, don’t give us the ham.  It is too fatty and high in sodium.  Oh yeah, that string that is wrapped around it is very tempting to us.  Those things don’t pass through, if you know what I mean.  A lovely dog-friendly basket that is overflowing with toys and treats would be appreciated.  *wink-wink
Bentley: “In the event that one of your dogs does get into the chocolate, we have a handy dandy Chocolate Toxicity Meter under our Safety Alerts and Gadgets tab.  You’ll also find a Real Time Safety Alert that will update you to any recalls and Slim Doggy’s Calorie Calculator & Food Rating.  You can bookmark the page for emergencies.  It’s best to stick with your dog’s normal treats on Easter.  I love the little baby carrots for a surprise.”
Pierre: “Speaking of surprises, the Phoenix Zoo recently discovered their Andean bear Luka should be named Lucy.  The bear was about to be sent to a zoo in Tennessee for breeding.  The plans changed when an examination revealed the two year old was a female, not a male as originally believed.  It’s a pretty common mistake with this species as the reproductive parts aren’t developed until they are around two years old.”

Bentley: “Words of advice; if you are ever invited to an Andean bear’s baby shower…stick with a gift in yellow.  Can you imagine finding out on your birthday that you are a girl?  That’s the ultimate April Fools Day joke!  Let me give my “dawgs” a second word of advice.  Wednesday is officially April Fools Day and the jokesters will be out in force.  Don’t fall for the fake “thrown” ball or the “There’s something on your chest,” snout tweak.  Turn the tables on your human by pretending to throw up a few minutes before their alarms go off in the morning.  Watching them leap out of the beds is classic dog prank!”
Pierre: “This next story is no joke.  Kimberly, a young black Lab had the misfortune of getting herself stuck on the icy Lake Erie just north of Bayville, Ohio for more than five days.  The Coast Guard knew it was too dangerous to attempt an air mission and time was running out fast.  A local news station teamed with an airboat company in an attempt to capture the dog.  Of course, the frightened dog ran when the airboat got close, but finally one of the reporters was able to coax her close enough to grab the collar and pull her aboard.  A grateful Kimberly rode on her hero’s lap back to safety.”
Paisley: “Hi y’all!  Did I hear someone mention a young Lab?  That’s me, Paisley the Weather Lab at your service.  I have a forecast that you are going to think is another April Fools joke!  Are ya ready?”
Bentley: “Hi Paisley, I almost didn’t recognize you behind your bunny mask.  You look very festive.”

Paisley: “Thank you very much.  This is my first Easter and I’m super egg-cited!  Get it?  Giggle Okay, ahem, as I was saying Mother Nature is playing a joke on the United States this week.  Our friends on the west coast are experiencing record highs.  They went straight to summer heat.  The north and northeast are actually getting snow!  The Easter Bunny is going to need a snow bunny shoes to deliver the eggs up there.  Of course, the poor dude will need galoshes to hop down our bunny trail.  The south and the middle of the country are going to have more rain and storms.  I wish I had a brighter forecast.  Y’all just remember that a smile takes fewer muscles than a frown, but it really makes a lousy umbrella.  Happy Easter!”
Pierre: “Thank you Paisley.   Just some reminders that coming up this week, we share the North Shore Animal League America Tour, an April Fools Day funny, we discover a fabulous air purifier, and discuss poop bags.  Believe me; you don’t want to miss a day.  Bentley?”
Bentley: “Thank you for spending some of your day with us.  Don’t forget to tell your friends and share us on your social media.  If you find a news story that we should sniff around, let us know.  Don't forget to check out the great deals at Bentley's Bargains!  Stay safe and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  5. I'm so embarrassed for that bear. Imagine being thought of as the wrong sex for most of your life! We never have Easter candy out around here. We did used to have jelly beans until out of the blue one year I ate the entire bowl full. They don't hurt dogs, but I did get a tummy ache. Have a hoppy week!
