BFTB NETWoof News July 27, 2015

Bentley: “Welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the last week of July 2015. I’m joined as usual by my co-anchor Pierre and our Weather Lab Paisley. We have a lot of news so let’s get right to it. Pierre, if I recall you have our top story.”
BFTB NETWoof News Top Story

Pierre: “Funny that you said ‘recall’ because that is exactly what our top story addresses. Did you know that there have been seven (7) recalls of dog food and treats this month?  The companies that have issued recalls in July include (in alphabetical order) Boulder Dog Food, Bravo, I and Love and You, Natural Dog Company, Nature’s Variety, Stella and Chewy’s, and Vital Essentials. The recalls have been voluntary and no dogs have been sickened due to the discovery of salmonella or listeria. Please refer to the links on our News Sources at the bottom of this post for the lot numbers of the affected products. We will keep you updated on any new recalls.”
Bentley: “I always hate to see a recall from a company that we love, but it is better to be safe than sorry. This next story shows how one small cat brought parts of the New York subway to a grinding halt. George was on a leash in the New York City subway when he got spooked by the noise. He fled onto the tracks and the train operator was notified to cut off the power. Two officers were able to rescue George and return him to his anxious human. He may have just wanted to see if what he’d heard about NYC subway rats was true. Still, it’s never a good idea to stop more than 80 subway trains and irritate 10,000 New Yorkers during rush hour. George will certainly have a tale to tell his friends.”
Pierre: “We have big news if you are a dog or cat in Trigueros de Valle. That’s is a town of 300 residents north of Spain where cats and dogs have been given what is basically human rights as non-human neighbors. On July 22, the province of Valladolid town approved a declaration that dignifies the lives of cats and dogs. It seems that both animals are very important to the town and are being recognized for their contributions. This means that the town hall will take legal responsibility for all abandoned cats and dogs. It also gives them the right to condemn owners who abuse their animals.”

Bentley: “You know that we covered the four chimpanzees that were recognized as legal persons after being held captive for testing purposes. I hate to jump on my soapbox, but it is time the governments realize that we are not property but feeling, caring and loving souls. It is difficult for me to share that same sentiment about the subjects in our next story. Scientists are training cockroaches to go into areas where humans or Search and Rescue dogs can’t reach. They are using those ginormous Madagascar roaches and equipping them with microphones and electrodes that send stimuli to their antennas. They can be controlled remotely to help find survivors in disasters such as earthquakes. On a personal note, I hope they never have to send a cyborg roach after Mom. She would completely freak!”
Pierre:  “Roaches have all the luck. First, they get their own hotels and now they get to be Robo Roaches! Before we head over to this week’s weather, let me remind our readers of a couple of issues. Even though everyone seems to be posting and reminding others, people are still leaving their dogs in hot cars! Here is the bottom line; unless the ride is to somewhere the dog is welcome 100% to join you, leave them at home. That brings me to my second point. If your dog is left at home and you are arrested/incarcerated/in the hoosegows, find someone to feed your pet! A recent arrest resulted in two dogs going without food for days before being rescued.”
Bentley: Well, those are the type of reports that make me scratch my ears and wonder about humans. Paisley, how is the weather looking for the week?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather
Paisley: “Hiya boys! Is it hot enough for y’all? We are looking at a heat index of 109° here on the Bayou. I urge our friends to bring their pets indoors or make sure they have ample shade and plenty of water if they must stay outside. There is a slight chance of rain later on in the week. That is not the case on the west coast where the temperatures are hot and the fires are hotter. That is not a problem in Florida where they are being hammered by storms with a real chance of flooding. The east coast will be hot and muggy again. The middle part of the country will also see storms with the potential for severe weather. Pop-up showers are possible all over the place when the temperatures get high. Y’all hang tough, we still have the August heat to endure. Back to you, Bentley.”
Bentley: “Thank you, Paisley. I’ll be sure to add a little extra deodorant this week. We’d like to invite our readers to visit us all week for reviews, photos, fun and helpful tips. Be safe and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

We would like to express our incredible sadness over the senseless violence that took the lives of two vibrant women and injured nine other innocent people in a Lafayette theater last Thursday, July 23rd. It is inconceivable to me that we can no longer enjoy a movie without wondering if some lunatic is going to open fire on us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims. #LouisianaStrong

  3. Oh boy I'm glad that George survived that adventure, maybe next time he better will use google to find out more about the subway-rats... I bet his human was near to a heart attack....
I agree with you it is not good if a company has to reacall food, but it's better to be informed than to get sick, right?

  5. I'm not sure I would trust a roach to find me or my human, but one never knows. I would rather see them work on training dogs for the job. Stay cool my friend and make sure your a/c is working like a dog, not you :)

  6. Thanks for the info on the recalls! You are right better to be safe then sorry.

P.S. I certainly hope my assistant is never arrested, but yes, you are right people should make arrangements for their pets. They shouldn't have to suffer because of their owner's crimes.

  7. George. Yet another reason it's a good idea to chase cats, right? At least to chase AWAY from subways! I agree with your mom on the cockroaches. I'd freak a little, but it's fascinating, and a great use of cockroaches.

  8. Oh, all the recalls of late...mostly of raw brands...makes me sad. When I spoke with Bravo, an independent lab test found nothing in the food but the team there recalled everything made that day just to be safe. And you are right...I am still hearing about dogs...and children...being left in hot cars. Really?! What is wrong with some people?!? We need to keep reminding everyone like you said.
