A Peaceful Sleepy Feeling #52Snapshots of Life

For the last 35 weeks, we have participated in
The Lazy Pit Bull’s
#52Snapshots of Life.
Each week we have a word prompt and share a photograph that corresponds with that word.
There have been a couple of weeks that were difficult to come up with a photo. That was NOT a problem this week since our word is

Rainbow Remembrance Day #FFHT

Today we are honoring our pets that have left our homes but not our hearts. It is Rainbow Remembrance Day hosted by Zee & Zoey. This is also the last Friday of the month which means it is Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails or #FFHT hosted by Murphy and Stanley. Of course, every Friday is our Pet Parade hop so I am offering a three for one today. Enjoy our Rainbow Remembrance and watch for the FFHT sentence of the month; It would be really embarrassing if everyone knew…
This past June I participated in my friend Oz the Terrier’s blog hop, “Bravo for Special Moments.” I chose to write about our first puppy, Madison the German Shepherd. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 1997. As often happens when I start writing, I lost myself in her story. It started out happy and as I went through the years, it eventually came to the time she had to leave us.

Dogsters Are the Cool Way to Treat Your Dog

Bentley: “I don’t have to tell y’all that summers on the bayou are crazy hot and humid. We don’t have a beach or a swimming pool so how are two hot dogs supposed to maintain their cool?”

Pierre: “This has been a problem until we made an incredible discovery. It is Dogsters® ice cream style treats. I can describe it in word one word…delish!”

5 Tips to Help Your Dog Deal with Back To School #52Snapshots

It is the time of year that children dread and parents look forward to…it is Back to School Time! This is usually an expensive stress-filled time for families. New school clothes, a two-page supply list, fitting in with classmates, and meeting teachers are a few things that strike fear in the hearts of your kids. As you try to reassure them that everything will work out fine, the tension level is on the rise. During all of the excitement and turmoil a new school year brings, there is a member of the family that might get overlooked. It’s the faithful dog.
Your four-legged best friend has had someone to hang out and play with all summer. Days of playing ball and swimming will turn into days of being left alone. It can be a very upsetting time for your pet. Depression and separation anxiety are very real problems and need to be addressed.

Dog Poop Happens

Cartoon drawing of dog pooping

Let’s talk about dog waste, poo, poop, feces, #2, or crap. No matter what you call it, I think that we can all agree that it happens. When you take a trip with your dogs, you will be making pit stops for them. If you are lucky, they will need a bathroom break about the same time you do. Most interstates have easily accessible rest areas. We stopped at several places along our last trip and the majority were clean and had garbage bins out by the grassy areas. It made it simple to toss a used poop bag away. #ThereIsAnEmojiForPoop

Dream Vacations During the #DogDaysOfSummer

Me: “Bentley received a special package last week and was really excited. When he opened the gift box, inside was a fabulous green and tan overnight bag. There was a card wishing him a Happy National Dog Day! It was from our friends at Personal Creations.com. It is absolutely adorable.”

Quotes From a Quotaholic

Bentley Basset and M. K Clinton touching paws    Let me start this post out with a confession. Before I joined the world of social media, I used to tell my daughter that her friends on the internet weren’t “real” friends. It was hard for me to believe that you could be friends with someone that you never met, in some cases had never seen a photo of, and had never heard their voice. I think one of the signs of good parenting is being able to admit when you are wrong. Boy, was I ever wrong. I’m not sure what it says about me, but I consider my online friends to be my best friends. We discuss things, we cry for each other, and I feel closer to them than most of my local friends. It also helps that the majority of my cyber friends are as dog or cat crazy as I am. Most of my local friends just don’t get it. That’s okay; I don’t get a lot of the things they are into either. My cyber friends have never let me down and I trust them. That is one of the reasons that I loved going to the BlogPaws

A Furlocity Vacation

When you are a pet parent planning a vacation, you're faced with two options. You can take your best friends with you or book them their own getaway at a local pet resort. The problem then becomes finding a pet-friendly hotel or a reputable place to keep your pet while you’re away. We have experienced both with Bentley and Pierre. For first-timers, it can be a nerve-wracking situation. Thankfully, there is a website that can help.  It is called Furlocity®.

Drool-Worthy Recipes for #Dogs

A few months ago, I "pinned" a recipe from my friend Sarah at Lola the Pitty. It has become one of my most repinned recipes. I wanted to share it with all of you since it is a "bone-afied" winner! Be sure to visit Sarah and Lola for more exciting recipes!

Every Tattoo Tells a Story

There are usually two responses when it comes to tattoos. People either love them or hate them. I fall into the first category. Getting a tattoo is a very personal experience since it is something that you will most likely have for the rest of your life. It is not something that you should do on a whim. You should seek a professional tattoo artist and see their quality of work before you offer them your skin. The last thing that you want is a bad tattoo. I’m sure that you have seen examples of misspelled words and bad artwork. I would also be very careful about getting a tattoo in another language. One misplaced mark in a Chinese word can change its entire meaning. Think about where you are placing the tattoo and what it will look like when you are old. What looks like a beautiful swan might turn into an ugly duckling when your skin sags or wrinkles. It is important to think about the message your ink is sending to others. If you are young and think a scary scene is cool, remember that you might have children one day that will be terrified of your skull with blood dripping from it. The same goes for curse words or suggestive sayings. You will have to explain it to your kids!

Finding a Great Veterinarian is an AAHA Moment

AAHA red logo
Look for the AAHA logo.
How did you find your veterinarian? There is a variety of ways to find your pet’s doctor including word-of-mouth, proximity to your home, or letting your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages Google. I can honestly say that I have used each of these methods. I usually ended up changing after the first visit or two. The old saying, “When you know better, you do better” is certainly true. I learned better in Las Vegas at the BlogPaws 2014 conference. That is when I was introduced to the American Animal Hospital Association. It was definitely my “AAHA Moment.” I was thrilled when I was invited to a breakfast they hosted at this year’s conference in Nashville. Besides a terrific buffet, we were treated to some very interesting AAHA facts.

The Signs of Aging in Dogs

BlogPaws Aging Pet Month
Me: “The month of August has been set aside to honor and appreciate our Aging Pets. Did you know that a dog is usually considered a senior when they reach their seventh birthday?”
Bentley: “Now just hold on a dadburn minute. I happen to be seven years old and I don’t consider myself a senior. I am in great shape!”
Me: “I know. I couldn’t agree with you more. You are at the perfect weight, we exercise each day and you eat super healthy food.”
Bentley: “It seems to me that if sixty can be the new forty in humans, why can’t seven be the new four in dogs? There have been huge strides in veterinary medicine. People are taking better care of their pets and dogs’ lifespans are increasing.”
