BFTB NETWoof News December 28, 2015 #dognews

Bentley: “Welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the last week of 2015. I am Bentley Basset, your newshound extraordinaire and sharing the anchor desk with me is Pierre Westie and our Weather Lab Paisley. We hope that you had a wonderful Christmas. Santa Paws was very good to all of us. We have some great stories to end the year. Pierre, what did we choose as our top story?”

Pierre: “It was difficult to choose which story deserved top billing this week. We decided on a feel-good rescue story. A blind dog was rescued after he fell into a 26 foot well in Bosnia. He survived a month down there by eating food that the local children would drop down to him. Finally, a rescue group called Harmony Fund was able to send a man into the deep hole and bring the dog they call ‘Christmas’ back to the surface. He is now in foster care.”
Bentley: “That is a real ‘Christmas’ miracle! Our next story focuses on motherly love. The last few months have seen deadly floods throughout India. Many humans have lost their lives in the deep waters. One stray dog braved the garbage-infested waters to save her puppies. The waters rose so quickly that she was separated from them. She swam against the current to bring each of her babies to safety. People watching were going to lend assistance but realized that she had it all under control. A mother’s love can overcome most obstacles in life.”
BFTB NETWoof News story on cloning
Pierre: “Here is another example of a mother’s love, but begs the question; does it go too far? We reported on the ability to clone a dog earlier this year. There is a company, Sooam which has cloned over 700 dogs. It is that company a couple turned to when their beloved Boxer died from an inoperable brain tumor at the age of 8. The thing that makes this cloning unusual is that it is the first time they have used the DNA from a dog that has been dead for nearly two weeks. The company usually uses samples from a living canine or one that is very recently deceased. The cost for the procedure is $100,000.”
Bentley: “Just so you know, the procedure is done using a tissue sample from the dog’s cheek or abdomen. It is converted into a culture and injected into the surrogate dog’s unfertilized eggs and implanted back into her. Two puppies were cloned from this dog. I can understand the desire, but I don’t think I’d like to be cloned. I want to be the only Bentley in my Mom’s life. I like to think of myself as one-of-kind!”
Pierre: “I feel the same way. Plus, I’ve seen Stephen King’s Pet Sematary. No thanks!  Before we head over to see this week’s weather forecast, I have one more happily ever after report. A couple in Las Vegas was stunned when they received a call from an animal shelter about their lost dog. What was so stunning is that they had lost their dog six years ago! The family was vacationing when their two Shelties caught the scent of something and ran off in pursuit. One dog came back, but the other was never seen again. Although they searched for him and posted fliers they didn’t hear anything until a couple of weeks ago. They have been reunited and have even heard from the lady who has been taking care of their dog for the past six years. She had recently moved and the dog ran away again. This time, when he was picked up, the shelter scanned him and discovered the microchip with his original family’s information. Isn’t that a great Christmas present?
Bentley: “If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. Microchips save a lot of lost pets. I hope that everyone makes it a New Year’s resolution to microchip your dog or cat. Paisley, how does this wacky weather look for the last week of 2015?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather report
Paisley: “Hiya guys! Thank you for the great Christmas presents y’all gave me. I’m happy to be reporting more winter-like weather. The west coast will be sunny, but clouds will be covering the northwest. The northern states will be frigid. The east coast should experience cold or at least, cooler temperatures. That is good since they have been in the 70’s! The Carolinas and Georgia will have some scattered storms and Florida will remain warm. Here in the south, it will be breezy and cooler. It’s not going be a good week for wearing a hat! The middle of the country will go from warm to cool. We are remembering all of those people that were devastated by weekend storms. I’d also like to issue a warning of fireworks in the skies everywhere on Thursday! Stay safe wherever you are this New Year’s Eve. Please don’t drink and drive. Remember, your pets are counting on you to come home safely.”
Bentley: “That is a great reminder and weekly forecast. We do hope that everyone has a safe and fun New Year’s celebration. If I could make one more suggestion for a resolution, it would be to make Barking from the Bayou a daily stop. You can even have us delivered right to your email by signing up at the top of our sidebar where it says ‘Fetch My Blog in Your Email.’ It is easy peasy! Don’t forget to check out the fun at Murphy & Stanley and Dory’s Backyard as they have Howliday Hijinks all week. You can catch a glimpse of yours truly with his beautiful date, Emma and Pierre with her sister, Bailie from MyGBGV Life. No matter what your plans are as we say goodbye to this year, be sure that you take the time to grab yourself some happy!”
Happy New Year

  2. I'm looking forward to the dance, Bentley, and Bailie is too, Pierre! We are thrilled it has gotten nice and cold and we are getting more snow! Love it! As for cloning, no thanks. The clone may be the same genes, but the environment is what makes a personality and that can't be duplicated. Have a great week!

  7. As much as I'd love to have my Jewel back, I don't think I'd ever clone her. It just seems so unnatural to me, and it wouldn't be Jewel. What made Jewel, Jewel was her soul, and her soul is at the Rainbow Bridge now.

  9. Wow, those first two stories were incredible. Thank goodness the blind dog survived. I can't imagine how scared he must have been. And a mother's love whether it be human or canine or feline is an amazing and powerful thing!

  14. That is so scary that your dog would run off and not be able to find them. It is snowing here for the first time and I am not prepared for it, haha.
