A Fish Tale #FFHT

Summers were invented for lazy days drifting in a boat and doing some fishing with your best friend. In the case of Bentley and Pierre, their recent adventure is being shared as part of Murphy & Stanley Fractured Fryday’s Hairy Tails. The object is to create a story that includes a particular phrase. This month’s “Special Inclusion” is: “That was the first time I ever…
I hope that you enjoy today’s story.

Pierre: “It was a dark and stormy night beautiful sunny day when Bentley and I decided to try our paws at fishing. We hitched up the boat and headed out for our local lake.”

Drool Happens

Does your best friend drool? Is it embarrassing to meet people and notice your friend has spittle overflowing the sides of their mouth? Are you constantly grabbing napkins to help keep yourself from being slobbered? We ARE talking about your dog, right?

Pierre: “Funny that you said ‘recall’ because that is exactly what our top story addresses. Did you know that there have been seven (7) recalls of dog food and treats this month?  The companies that have issued recalls in July include (in alphabetical order) Boulder Dog Food, Bravo, I and Love and You, Natural Dog Company, Nature’s Variety, Stella and Chewy’s, and Vital Essentials. The recalls have been voluntary and no dogs have been sickened due to the discovery of salmonella or listeria. Please refer to the links on our News Sources at the bottom of this post for the lot numbers of the affected products. We will keep you updated on any new recalls.”

The Dog's Missing

There are three little words that all pet parents dread; “The dog’s missing!” Yet each day those words are repeated in homes across the country. Like all disasters, you need to be prepared in the event it happens.
How to safeguard your pet
·        Never let your dog run loose or unsupervised.
·        Keep a collar on your pet. How many times have you heard, “He isn’t wearing a collar, may we keep him?”

How I Solved My Biggest Complaint about Dog Shampoo

What is your biggest dog shampoo complaint? I know mine is the amount of shampoo that never makes it on my dog. No matter how careful I am, there is always a big glob or four that falls. That sends me into a desperate attempt to scoop and capture the globs before they go down the drain. I usually end up spilling the shampoo that did make it on my palm in the rescue. That is why when The Honest Kitchen® announced they had come out with a Solid Shampoo Sparkle Bar for dogs; I jumped at the opportunity to give it a try.

8 Photographs of #Happiness

Bentley and Pierre were recently tagged by our good friend, Whitley the Westie to share Eight Photos of Happiness.  If you don’t follow Whitley, you should pop over and say “howdy.” She is a Texas girl who is known for her adorable dresses, playing pool ball while floating on an air mattress, swimming, barking, and playing with her friends. Pierre has a crush on her.
Thanks to Ariel’s Little Corner of the Internet for coming up with this fun idea of sharing a bit of happiness.

Since both of the boys were tagged, I decided to feature photos with both of them. I hope they make you happy.

The Plight of the Potcakes

Have you ever heard of a Potcake? They are a mixed breed of dog that is native to the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Bahamas. The name Potcake comes from a congealed rice and pea mixture that the locals feed their dogs. Most potcake dogs have smooth coats, cocked ears, and long faces. They are really cute, but they need help.

The Story of Bonnie & Clyde Wild Omega-3 Fish Oil

I’m sure that you’ve all heard of the notorious Bonnie and Clyde. Let me tell you the story of a modern-day duo by the same name. This Bonnie and Clyde are definitely not the criminal types. However, they are guilty of stealing the hearts of their pet parents. Jon Caldwell and his fiancĂ©e found the pair of snow white kittens in a barn a little over two years ago. After bringing them in from the cold, they nursed them back to health. It didn’t take long before they were head or heels in love with their new family members.
Like all new parents, they wanted the best of everything for their kittens and that included adding fish oil to their diet. After investigating the products available on the market, they decided this was one product that needed to be improved.

PetSafe and Pet Hydration Month

July is Pet Hydration Month and we are celebrating with our friends at PetSafe®. Providing your pet with clean fresh water is vital for their health and well-being. Did you realize that a dog needs to drink 1 ounce of water for every pound of body weight? Depending on your dog, that can be a lot of water! Of course, you can lead a dog to water, but you can’t make them drink. Getting some dogs to drink enough can be a real problem for many pet parents. Water is necessary to cushion joints and support vital organs. How can a pet parent help?

Do You Know How to Whistle?

Do you know how to whistle? If you think I mean to how pucker up and blow, you’re way off base. Whistle is a waterproof Activity Monitor for your dog. It is one of the coolest dog products that I have seen in some time.
What exactly is a Whistle?
It is a lightweight device that attaches on any collar to track your dog’s daily activity and long-term health trends through an app on your phone. As soon as you open the app you can see where you are on the day’s activity goal.  You can learn when your dog is most active along with the type of exercise it’s getting. Think of it as a FitBit® for dogs. To charge the device, it plugs into your computer. You receive a message when it needs to be recharged, but mine lasts about 10 days.

The Anxiety Wrap Review

If your dog suffers from anxiety over thunderstorms or fireworks, the chances are it was a long weekend for you.  As much as I enjoy watching fireworks, Bentley hates them.  He will take his potty breaks before the explosions start and that’s it.  The same goes for thunderstorms. He hears thunder when it is thirty minutes away.  I know this for a fact because he wakes me up with frantic pawing on our bed. We go sit in the living room and in thirty minutes…Ka-BOOM! That is when he goes to make sure his dad is awake too.  Pierre joins us but goes back to sleep totally unfazed by the apocalypse happening above us. If you ask Bentley, he will tell you that we are always lucky to be alive afterward.

It is a Snood

Me: “Bentley, look at what I ordered for you!  It’s a snood!”
Bentley: “A what?”
Me: “A snood is a covering for your neck, head and those long ears.”
Bentley: “I don’t get it.”
Me: “It fits around your head to protect your ears from sloppy eating or being dragged through the mud.”
Bentley: “I fear the only thing that will be dragged through the mud is my masculinity if I wear this!”
Me: “Don’t be ridiculous. They are unisex and I didn’t order girly prints.  Look, this one has a sun visor.  How cool is that?”
Bentley: “I do look rather adorable in it.  I’ll consider it. I do loathe having crusty tips on my ears.  It’s a real turn-off for the babes.”

A Chewy.com American Journey

Bentley: “Y’all are not going to believe who sent us an extra box as a surprise.  It was our friend, Miss Sydney from Chewy.com.  This was no ordinary delivery either.  No, sirree!”
Pierre: “It was incredible…stupendous…ground-breaking…and it was for us! I wish that y’all could smell this picture.  Don’t because it would nasty up your screen, but believe me, it smells sensational.  The thing about this package is it really is from Chewy.com.”

BFTB NETWoof News for the Week of July 6, 2015

Bentley: “Hello and welcome to this week at BFTB NETWoof News.  I am your ears and nose to the ground anchor, Bentley and next to me is my co-anchor, Pierre Westie.  We are also joined by our Weather Lab Paisley.  We have a lot of news this week so let’s fetch our top story.  Pierre?”
BFTB NETWOOF Channel 7 News Top Story

Pierre: “This week top story is a recall of Stella & Chewy’s Freeze-Dried products. They were informed by the Maryland Department of Agriculture that a single lot of the Chicken Freeze-Dried Dinner Patties tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Although there are no reports of any illnesses associated with this recall, the company has voluntarily recalled several others in their line of freeze-dried foods for both dogs and cats. You can get a complete list and the lot numbers here.”

Darling Collars from Darla Jane's

Photo courtesy of  Louie The French Dog
We met so many awesome people and pets at BlogPaws this year.  I fell in love with a certain French gentleman.  His name is Louie and he’s an adorable French Bulldog.  He has one of those faces that you just want to kiss.  You can read his adventures on their blog, The French Dog. As I was trying to control my urge to cuddle him, he lifted his head and I saw that he was wearing a bowtie collar.  There should have been a “Caution! Cuteness Overload” neon sign on him.  I asked his mom, Karen, where she had found such a great collar.  It was very exciting to discover that she actually made Louie’s collar.  She has her own Etsy store, Darla Jane’s.
Karen began her store after raising puppies for 15 years.  The new puppy owners would get excited about buying collars and toys for their new “baby.”  She quickly realized there was a huge market for unique dog accessories.  She makes custom-fitted coats for dogs that are harder to fit than some others.  Dogs like Louie and Bentley usually can’t buy “off-the-rack” clothes and accessories.  At Darla Jane’s, she can take your pets measurements and make sure that you get the correct size.  She fits average-sized dogs too!
