Blue Buffalo's Boo Bars are Spook-tacular

Bentley: “It was a dark and stormy night when I heard someone knocking on the door. Being the brave dog that I am, there was only one thing that I could do. I answered that door prepared to defend my family. It was terrifying!”
Pierre: “It was the middle of a beautiful sunshiny day and the delivery was from our friend Chewy. Why do you have to make it sound so ominous?”

#TruLoveIs PetSmart and Wellness TruFood

PetSmart store with woman and Basset in front
This post is sponsored by PetSmart & Wellness Natural Pet Food and BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Wellness TruFood, but Barking from the Bayou/mkclinton.com only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Wellness Natural Pet Food is not responsible for the content of this article.
One of our favorite outings is a trip to our local PetSmart® store. We love to cruise the aisles checking out all of the fun toys, clothes, and accessories. Of course, the food aisle is always Bentley’s favorite. He loves it even more now that he has discovered the complete line of Wellness® food and treats. His nose doesn’t stop working as he checks out the smells of whole foods from the farm, field and sea in the Wellness TruFood® bags.

BFTB NETWoof News 9-21-2015

Bentley: “Greetings and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. My co-anchor Pierre and I have sniffed out the news that you need to know. We will also have this week’s forecast from our Weather Lab Paisley.”
BFTB NETWoof news set with three dogs
Top Story photo courtesy of VashonIsland Pet Protectors
Pierre: “Our top story this week is one that really hit home for us. An 11-year-old Irish Springer/Spaniel mix named Tillie showed once again the loving devotion we dogs possess. She and her best friend, Phoebe, a Basset Hound escaped their home in Vashon, Washington during a company party. Someone inadvertently left the door ajar and Phoebe’s nose led her astray. Unfortunately, the hunt ended with her falling into a raven where she was trapped for a week. Tillie stood guard over her the entire time, only leaving to make an attempt to alert a nearby neighbor. After a few days, the man contacted a local rescue worker from Vashon Pet Protectors who came out and found the dynamic duo. They enjoyed a reunion full of hugs and kisses from their grateful pet parents. Besides being hungry, the two were in remarkably good health. They enjoyed a burger dinner and caught up on some sleep. We are happy to report that their new GPS collars on the way!”
Bentley: “You can always count on me to keep an eye on you. If you do ever get lost, can you stick close to home? I’d hate to miss a week’s worth of meals and belly rubs.  This Basset Newshound needs a good ten hours of serious sleep on my bed to be at my best.”
Pierre: “Don’t worry about me. I am not going anywhere that doesn’t have air conditioning and the internet. Did you know that we are celebrating two important celebrations this week? Why don’t you tell our viewers all about the first one?”
Bentley: Of course! We want to remind everyone that this is National Dog Week. That means y’all need to do something special for your faithful companions. It doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary; a tasty treat, an extra walk, or a game of fetch is all your dog asks for in return for being your best friend. It’s the greatest trade-off ever.”
news set with Deaf Dog Awareness Week and sign for I love you

Pierre: “I couldn’t agree more. It is also Deaf Dog Awareness Week. You’d be surprised at the number of our canine comrades who are hearing impaired. We have met a couple of deaf dogs and they are terrific. Many deaf dogs end up in shelters because people don’t know how to train them. If you are interested in learning more about the subject, two of our good buddies write about living with deaf dogs. Check out Deaf Dogs Rock and Dog & His Boy for expert advice. Tell them BFTB sent you.”
Bentley: “It is a busy week for dogs! We want to let our friends affected by the fires in Valley and Butte, California know that several rescues are housing pets that were left behind. A mandatory evacuation didn’t give some a chance to gather their dogs, cats, and other animals. Many people were away from home and couldn’t get back to save their pets. Other pets became frightened and fled. They are making every effort to reunite these families. If you or someone that you know has been displaced and separated from their pets, please refer to this page from the AKC with links to rescues and resources.”
Pierre: “Those people sure could use some rain without the lightning. What are their chances, Paisley?”
BFTB weather set with three dogs

Paisley: “Hiya guys! Did you know that autumn officially starts this Wednesday? That means cooler temperatures are on the way and there’ll be lots of leaves to run through. As far as the forecast goes the chances of rain over those fires is slim. California will continue to be hot and dry. I wish there was better news because the fires are spreading quickly. The system that is bringing flooding rains to the southwest just won’t move in the direction of those flames. Our northeast coast will welcome the new season with cooler temps in the area while Florida and along the Carolinas will see the possibility of soaking rains later this week. The middle of the country will catch a break with the wet stuff, but they are going to remain hot. Here along the bayou, our outlook is cloudy with the possibility of showers later this week too. Everyone should keep an eye to the sky and always check your local area forecast to be prepared. Back to you, Bentley.”
Bentley: “We are ready for some cooler temperatures here. In the meantime, we will be here each day and look forward to sharing more stories, reviews, and laughs with our readers. Y’all have a fantastic week and remember to grab yourself some happy.”

A Little Raw Goes a Long Way #StellaandChewys

Basset and Stella & Chewy's Meal Mixers with cows in backgound
*This post is sponsored by Stella & Chewy's and the BlogPaws Professional Pet Blogger Network. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about Meal Mixers, but Barking from the Bayou/mkclinton.com only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Stella & Chewy's is not responsible for the content of this article.

I am slowly transitioning Bentley and Pierre to a raw pet food diet. I truly feel that it is better for their overall health. I am still having a hard time putting raw store-bought meat into their bowls. I know that it is perfectly fine for our pets, but after a lifetime of being told not to eat raw meat it still makes me uneasy.

Hunting for Gator Treats

Bentley: “I’m so hungry that I could eat an alligator!”
Pierre: “All we need is our boat and some really big worms. We can catch us a gator down on the bayou.”
Bentley: “No problem, dude. We can dig up some worms out in the yard. Let’s stop by the sweet potato patch on the way. There is something about having gator that just screams sweet potatoes.”

Snow Freaky

*This is an account of some weird happenings as told by Bentley.
The calendar may show autumn is only a few days away, but the thermometer still says summertime heat here on the bayou. That is the reason what happened this week was so weird or should I say, Snow Freaky?
We were cruising down the interstate when we decided to take a stop and stretch our legs. There was a huge Louisiana statue that looked like a great photo op. As we piled out of the car to pose for a most excellent shot, we heard someone holler. Being a dog, I insisted that we find out if we could lend a paw to help. Pierre began doing a search of the area while I tried to pick up a scent. I put my nose to the ground and was shocked find a trail of ice.

The Scary "C" Word #ThePucciniFoundation

There is one word that nobody ever wants to hear from their doctor or their vet.
CANCER
It strikes fear in the heart of everyone and with good cause. I have been fortunate that none of my pets has suffered from the disease. The same cannot be said for my human friends and relatives. Most of us know someone that has been given the diagnosis of cancer. Due to incredible advances in medicine, a number of cancers are no longer considered a death sentence when detected early. That was not always the case.

What Goes in a Pet First Aid Kit?

We were recently fortunate to win an ER Pet First Aid kit from our friends at Bocci’s Beefs and the A.S.P.C.A.  I couldn’t be happier because it allows me to keep everything needed for an emergency in one convenient kit. We also received an emergency blanket. Both of these will be in our car before we leave on any excursion. No one ever expects an accident, but everyone should be prepared for one to happen.

PetSmart and Natural Balance Make Me Smile #PetSmartStory

There is not much that puts a smile on our faces and a spring in our step like a visit to our local PetSmart® store. It is one of the few establishments in my area that welcome pets. That makes it my favorite place for a little retail shopping therapy. Bentley’s nose starts working as we get near the door. Can you imagine how many scents he is enjoying at one time? It’s a sensory smorgasbord for a Basset Hound. Pierre is our social butterfly and he immediately begins making friends with everyone on two or four legs!

GEAUX means GO at LSU!

Does Your Dog Think That You Stink?

Let me begin by saying this post has been 383 days in the making. Actually, it has been a 40+ year journey to get to August 17, 2014. What is so important about that date? It is the day that I smoked my last cigarette. I know it would be great for me to say that I hated smoking and had wanted to quit for years. That is just not the case. I enjoyed smoking; I only tried to quit a couple of times through my decades of this deadly addiction. Those of you that have never smoked are probably rolling your eyes or saying, “Ewww, nasty!” Believe me, I understand.
Close-up on Basset Hound's nose
I began smoking as a very young teen in the 70’s. It was cool, I was cool…you get the picture. Of course, back in the day a pack of cigarettes was less than $1.00. Today, that same pack will cost you $5.00 or more depending on where you live. The cost was not why I kicked the habit. Although, it would be nice to buy a Colorado getaway with the cash that I have let go up in smoke!

Power Patties the Holistic Treat Dogs love to Eat

I am a Brand Ambassador for Dr. Harvey’s Fine Health Food for Companion Animals. I’m being compensated for helping to share information about Dr. Harvey’s products. Barking from the Bayou/mkclinton.com only share information and products we believe will benefit you as well.

Me: “Okay boys, this is our first official Dr. Harvey’s® post since we became their Brand Ambassadors. I am going to let y’all help me, but I have to ask that you conduct yourselves in a business-like manner.”
Bentley: “Oh, you don’t have to worry about us. We are nothing if not the consummate professionals. Isn’t that right, Pierre?”
Pierre: “Absolutely, you can count on us to bring our unbiased opinion in a calm mature dialogue.”
Gold foil package of Dr. Harvey's Power Patties
Me: “Okay, good deal. We are going to tell everyone about Dr. Harvey’s Power Patties. They are in this gold bag. You have had them before, remember?”
Bentley: “Seriously? Of course I do. I just can't believe that we are starting with a treat so amazing that it is packaged in pure gold!”
Me: “I don’t think it is actually pure gold, it is just the color of the bag. It is pretty, isn’t it?””
Bentley: “Well, they should be in a 24 karat gold bag because they are that incredibly rich in flavor. It is going to be difficult maintaining composure when you are dangling one of my favorite taste treats in front of my nose. Power Patties are made from freeze-dried green beef tripe. Do you know about tripe, Pierre?”
Westie using Basset Hound to jump higher
Pierre: “Before I answer that, do you mind if I use your face to push off so I can reach this wonderful treat? Thanks. Now, back to your question. As a matter of fact, I know quite a bit on the subject of tripe. It’s the stomach lining of grazing animals. Stomachs of cows and other ruminating animals have four chambers which break down grasses with a bunch of digestive enzymes, gastric juices, and amino acids.”
Basset jumps for treat
Bentley: “I noticed that your tummy doesn’t make those weird noises when you add tripe to your diet. It has really made a difference in your sensitive stomach. Obviously, it did not do anything to make you more sensitive to me. I wouldn’t use your face as a launching pad to get a treat. I’ll just use my ears to jump higher while you look on in awe. Watch the fingers, Mom!”
Westie jumping in the air for Power Patties
Pierre: “Dude, way to jump for it! Thanks for noticing the difference in my stomach. It is so much better. That’s because the digestive enzymes in Power Patties help my digestion. My body doesn’t have to expend nearly as much energy digesting a meal so I get the most nutritional benefits for both my dinner and my treats. They also improve my metabolism, hormonal functions and boost my immune system. Speaking of boosting, check out this vertical leap!
Me: “Come on, you two. There are plenty of treats in this bag. It isn’t necessary for you to jump all over each other. Now, sit up like a gentleman and I will give you each a taste.”
Basset and Westie sitting for Dr. Harvey's treat
Bentley: “Yes, ma’am. Wow! These Power Patties are a super treat. Since they are from Dr. Harvey’s we know that they are free of preservatives, chemical additives, salt, sugar, dyes, or artificial flavors. You can easily break each patty into smaller pieces for tricks and training. They measure about 2" so we might only need one per training session. Unless, I accidentally eat the whole thing. It happens."
Pierre: “The label does warn that dogs might want to steal the entire bag. I can understand that desire because I already want more. If we share, may we please have another piece?”Basset and Westie sharing Power Patties
Me: “Sharing with your friends is nice. We are joining Dr. Harvey’s to share a bag of Power Patties with THREE of our lucky friends."
Bentley: "Power Patties are the holistic treat that dogs love to eat. Enter today and good luck!”
Pierre: “Don’t forget to check out our Ambassador badge on the sidebar. You can use our special code BFTB930 to save 10% on your purchases! They have food and holistic supplements for all types of companion animals.”
