The Night Before Halloween Story

It was the night before Halloween as Pierre and Bentley started off to Ye Ole Pumpkin Patch. Even though they had waited until the last minute to pick their perfect gourd for carving into a jack o’ lantern, they weren’t worried. This was the time that all of the pumpkins get slashed by 75%. Since they are cheap money conscious, it is a great time for them to shop. Besides, they only had time to carve one so they were sure finding a single pumpkin wouldn’t be a problem.
As they walked closer to the field where the pumpkins lay scattered about, Bentley felt the hair on his back rise. Something was wrong, his hair never made a mistake. Pierre bounced along without a care in the world. “Do you hear that?” Bentley asked anxiously. “I don’t know what you’re talking about," Pierre replied, "the moon is full, trick or treating starts tomorrow and we are about to pick out the perfect pumpkin. All I feel is excitement from the tip of my black nose to the tip of my white tail. Come on, let’s hurry.”

Where is the Halloween Fun?

Bentley: “This Saturday is Halloween and I am so excited! Think of all the candy we can get. Chocolate bars, gum, caramels, and more chocolate.”
Pierre: “I can hardly wait. I have my costume and I am ready to go score some major treats. Except for the orange and black wrapped candies. Seriously, does anyone eat those?”
Me: “I hate to break it to y’all, but you boys can’t go trick or treating for candy. You know that chocolate can be a killer for dogs. As a matter of fact, there isn’t a safe human candy for dogs to eat. You will have to settle for some pumpkin dogs treats.”

We Found the Beef #Evanger's

I have been learning so much about proper nutrition over the past year. Like many pet parents, I used to buy the well-recognized brands. I trusted they were best for my dogs because that is what the commercials told me. I ended up with overweight dogs that ate grain and artificial ingredients. I like to say, “When we know better, we do better.” That is one reason that I enjoy writing Barking from the Bayou. I get to share products that will improve the lives of our pets. Everyone wants the best for their four-legged family members without breaking the bank. Today I am sharing a dog food that will meet those needs. Plus, your dog is going to love it!

Dream Big with #ThePeanutsMovie

Let me start by stating unequivocally that I LOVE CARTOONS. As far back as I can remember, cartoons have made me laugh, cry, and laugh some more. When Charlie Brown’s Christmas debuted in 1965, it became a part of every Christmas memory. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the gang have always been a staple in my home for the holidays. We have enjoyed a Peanuts Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s, and Easter. Now, the entire gang is making their big-screen debut in state of the art 3D animation! I can hardly wait.

FURminator Nation

After a nice long shower, Bentley did feel much better.  It amazed him to see all of the hair he lost while he shampooed.  Apparently, Basset Hounds were shedders.  At this rate, he figured to be bald in a few short weeks.  He was still not too sure about this whole dog thing, but at least he was alive.
Exert from The Returns  by M. K. Clinton
If you are a pet parent shedding is a way of life. Those of us that live with heavy shedders can appreciate the above exert. When my main character is returned to earth in the body of a Basset Hound, shedding is just one of the things he discovers.

One Love is One Dog Organic Bakery

I am thrilled to announce that I won last month’s drawing from Veronica Glynn’s One Dog Organic Bakery. The box arrived yesterday and I was so excited to see what was inside! It was an actual gift basket complete with a beautiful pink ribbon. Bentley and Pierre were all noses when I took it out of the box. There were some extra goodies that I was not expecting. I thought it would be just a couple of bags of cookies. Oh no, not by a long shot.
I opened my basket to find so many awesome products. The main treasure was the delicious homemade gourmet dog treats with certified Organic & GMO-Free ingredients. They were in a cute holiday tin divided into three different compartments full of cookies!

Enjoying the Golden Years

Dr. Harvey's disclaimer
The one thing every pet parent wants is for their dog to live a long and healthy life. Many dogs are considered senior or geriatric at the age of seven. This is when you need to adjust their food and vitamins accordingly. There are a number of supplements on the market today to help pets as they get older. If you take a look at the labels, the majority of them have ingredients that you don’t know how to pronounce, much less the purpose they serve. This was the situation that I found myself in a few months ago.
Since becoming a dog blogger, I have learned so much about being a proactive caregiver to my dogs. As the saying goes, “When you know better, you do better.” This has been the case with Bentley’s food and supplements. It seemed to me that if I couldn’t recognize the ingredients in the products that I’m using, it was time to make a change. As he is getting older, it is imperative that I give him the best food and additives that I can find. Dr. Harvey’s has been a wonderful respite from all of the chemical laden products available. Along with their holistic all natural dog food, Bentley gets their Golden Years Geriatric Supplement.

10 Snappy Comebacks When Your Dog Is Insulted

It always stuns me when someone makes a rude statement to me about my dog. I try my hardest not to snap back, but you can bet your last dollar that my mind is doing a lot of trash talking. My friend, Carol Bryant from Fidose of Reality and I were discussing this the other day. We thought that it would be fun to write some of the things that we would actually like to say in rebuttal.

Here are my 10 Snappy Comebacks for a few of the actual Dog Insults that I have received:

Our Halloween Spooktacular is Creeping Up on Us

If you have visited any of the big box retailers over the past week, you might be under the impression that the next holiday will be Christmas. It seems that each year the Christmas sales start earlier. The truth is that one of my favorite holidays is coming in only three weeks! I love Halloween. As a child, our neighborhood came alive with ghosts and goblins. There was no fear of anyone poisoning candy or putting razor blades in apples. It was a more innocent time. As an adult in the 1980’s B.C. (Before Children), we used to have a huge costume party each Halloween. When our children were young, the focus of the day was once again turned back to trick or treating fun.

How To Improve Barkworthies Chews

Bentley: “There are lots of things that can be improved on, but I never thought that Barkworthies® was one of them.”
Pierre: “I know exactly what you mean. Barkworthies makes our favorite bully sticks and chews. They are naturally healthy and make us naturally happy.”

BFTB NETWoof News for October 5, 2015 #DogNews

Bentley: “It’s time for another BFTB NETWoof News where we fetch the best news for the animal lover in you. I’m happy to be sharing the anchor desk with my partner Pierre and our cute Weather Lab, Paisley. What is this week’s top story, Pierre?”
BFTB NETWoof News Top Story news set
Pierre: “Our top story today is a combination of bravery and foolishness. Remember that we do not advocate trying this at home. It seems that there is a real life Goldilocks of sorts in California. The difference is that three bears came to this 20 lb. French Bulldog’s house looking for some porridge and a bed. The pup bravely charged the bears and we are happy to report that the bears actually fled the scene. I don’t know about y’all but I will chase a squirrel or a rabbit however if a bear shows up, I’m not going outside!”
Bentley: “That is probably the best idea.  It is because of those dreadful fires that have the wildlife coming into to the neighborhoods. We advise using precaution if you happen upon any of these forest creatures. Our next report is one that we aren’t sure is a good idea either. It is now possible to clone your dog. A company in Seoul, South Korea offers to clone for a mere $100,000. Sooam Biotech used skin cells from a dog and injected it into a donor egg that had been emptied of its original DNA. The result was two dogs that are genetically identical, but not exact replicas of the original dog. So far, around 600 clones have been produced at this company. Personally, I find it kind of creepy and don’t want my mom to have another Bentley. I am definitely one of a kind.”
Pierre: “Yeah, I love ya’ but one of you is enough. This last story is also about humans messing with the animal kingdom. A Chinese science center has created a micro pig. They will soon be available for purchase at a cost of about $1,500 in U.S. currency. As with all types of genetic modifying, this new breed of pig is sparking controversy. I just don’t know that the pig needs to be made into a micro version. How do y’all feel about humans messing around with an animals DNA? Would you consider cloning your dog or buying a tiny pig?”
Bentley: “I know one thing that will remain the same. That’s our Halloween Spooktacular Blog Hop. We are teaming up with our friend Sugar the Golden Retriever for a fun-filled hop with a prize package by Dr. Harvey’s! You can join the fun on Friday, October 30th thru that Sunday. We will have more details in the next couple of weeks, but be sure to mark it on your calendars.”
BFTB sports desks with Walk Your Dog Week story
Pierre: “That is always so much fun! In the sports department, we are glad to announce that we are smack dab in the middle of National Walk Your Dog Week. Walking is one of our favorite things to do as a family. Thankfully the weather has cooled down just in time for us to take part in the challenge. You can find more information and win prizes from the gangs at Cascadian Nomads, Wag N Woof Pets, and Dolly the Doxie.
Bentley: “The fun doesn’t stop there. My sweetie, Emma and her sisters at My GBGV Life are joining with Slim Doggy, and To Dog with Love for their annual Fall Fitness Challenge. They have some great prizes to win too. We urge you to get out and enjoy the cooler temperatures with your dog. Speaking of cooler temps, Paisley are you ready with this week’s forecast?”
BFTB Weather set with three dogs
Paisley: “You betcha! First we need to remember our friends on the east coast that are suffering through torrential rains and flooding. They will have a couple of dry days, but more rain is heading their way towards the end of the week. Most of the country will have nice weather with temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s. There will be some rain for the New Mexico, Colorado, and on up through Utah this week. It won’t come close to the problems in the east, though. I want everyone to stay safe and if you are in the storm area pay close attention to your local weather forecasts. Hopefully, next week’s forecast will have nice weather across the country.”
Bentley: “I sure hope so, Paisley. That was another outstanding report. We thank you for stopping by today and hope to see you all week as we discover some amazing treats on Tuesday and enjoy some terrific stories the rest of this week. As you know, our Twitter buttons don’t work, so we ask that you please share our tweet below. From the BFTB NETWoof news team, have an awesome week and grab yourself some happy every chance that you get!”

My Dogs Found the Oracle

I am a Brand Ambassador for Dr. Harvey’s Fine Health Food for Companion Animals. I’m being compensated for helping to share information about Dr. Harvey’s products. Barking from the Bayou/mkclinton.com only share information and products we believe will benefit you as well.

Bentley: “I have a confession to make. We love Dr. Harvey’s products so much that we became Ambassadors for them. Don’t worry, we are still the same fun guys that we’ve always been and haven’t let it go to our heads. We have let their delicious food and treats go to our stomachs though. One of our favorites is their Oracle dog food.”
Bag of Oracle Beef Dog Food from Dr. Harvey's
Pierre: “You aren’t kidding. The very idea of this super simple meal gets my tail wagging like a metronome and turns you into a drool machine. Everything that is needed for a complete meal is in the bag. Well, except the hot water. You have to add that yourself.”
Freeze-dried beef and after adding water
Bentley: “Just look at this food. It has big chunks of beef, whole eggs, chicken, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, zucchini, broccoli, peas, beets, kelp, and a host of other delectable ingredients. Mom shakes the bag before scooping out how much she needs. That is to make sure that we get all of the goodies in each serving. Freeze-dried beef is the first ingredient and the bag is chocked full of it. When she adds the hot water, they magically turn into juicy pieces! Of course, it is made in the good ol’ U.S. of A. so we don’t have to worry.”
Pierre: “What you won’t find in Dr. Harvey’s Oracle is soy, salt, sugar, dyes, artificial preservatives or synthetic ingredients. You’ll never see by-products in their food. It’s simply pure whole foods. That’s the key to ensuring us a healthy, happy, and long life.”
Two bowls of Dr. Harvey's Oracle Dog food
Bentley: “To be honest, the most difficult thing about preparing Oracle for us is the waiting. Do you realize how long 10 – 15 minutes is to dogs? It is about a million years more or less. I am not usually a whiner, but I found myself letting out a few whimpers. Then, it happened. Our microwave beeped to signal the waiting was over. Pierre and I raced into the kitchen as fast as our paws would carry us.”
Pierre: “You know dogs that eat a diet rich in these high-quality proteins and other natural ingredients can absorb a powerful healthy dose of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. That is really important. Eating Oracle is like being fed a homemade meal without the hassle.”
Bentley: “We are enjoying the grain-free beef, but it is also available in tripe and chicken. I can vouch for these being awesome too. Now here is the super cool part about being a Dr. Harvey’s ambassador. I can get my friends a 10% savings on ANYTHING that you would like to order from them. All that you have to do is add our code, BFTB 1031 to your order. There is no need to thank me. I love y’all and want you to enjoy the same benefits of eating 100% natural whole foods that Pierre and I eat.”

Pierre: “Listen, I’d love to visit more, but dinner is ready and I am starving. Don’t forget to pick up some of Dr. Harvey’s treats like the Barkotti and Coconut Smiles for dessert. Believe me, you’ll love them too. There is also a complete line of goodies for our cat, bird, and horse friends. Now come on Bentley, let’s eat!”
