The Fifth Paw Receives High Fives

Me: “Have you ever looked at something and wished that you’d thought of it?”
Bentley: “Yeah, I wish that I’d thought of National Dog Treat Day. A day where you do nothing but give me treats.”
Me: “I’m talking about something that fills an unmet need, a thing, not a day. You can’t invent a day; you’re not Hallmark™.”
Bentley: “Which unmet need have you had filled? Is this something that I want to hear?”

Me: “It is The Fifth Paw® leash attachment. It carries your bags of doody instead of me. It holds several bags so I can hang yours and Pierre’s bags with no problem. I just tie my usual knot in the bag and place it in one of the clamps with the knot on one side and the bag on the other. You might notice that our friend Sugar the Golden Retriever is on the package!
Bentley: “As a dog, just let me say that I love it. There is nothing more embarrassing than seeing a cute dog while we are walking and you’re carrying my doody in a bag. You don’t look cool, I don’t look cool. It’s definitely something we’ve needed. How does it work?”
Me: “I’m so glad that you asked. The Fifth Paw works with most flat leashes ½” to 1” wide. Use the flat one or two ply leashes; they can be woven, leather, printed or even velvet material. All I had to do was unscrew and remove the holding ring and the rotating ring (colored piece). There is a slot on either side of the main body where you slide the leash depending on the thickness of your leash. It is a snug fit after you screw the pieces together. Here, watch this video and you’ll see how simple it is to attach.”
Bentley: “That is easy. In case you were wondering, it doesn’t put a strain on me while we are walking. I can’t even tell that you have The Fifth Paw attached. You keep it close to the handle so it is easy to slide the used Sooty Paw Paw poop bag into the slot. It is awesome that it rotates 360° so the bags always hang down toward the ground. Score another point for gravity!”

Me: “That’s the truth. Stephen Longo, the inventor, was walking Caesar and Chloe, his two Great Danes when he realized there must be a better way of transporting dog doody. I have a hard time handling you and carrying a bag full of your business; I can’t imagine him trying it with giant dogs. The bigger the dog the bigger the doody! I know if The Fifth Paw can handle his dog’s used bags, it can handle mine. When someone is walking their dog, it is important to have one hand free. It sometimes takes both hands to convince you to move.”
Bentley: “I guess that you could say Stephen Longo had two “Great” reasons for his invention.  You can also hang your house key or treat pouch from one of those clamps. I personally lean more toward the treats, but it is your call.
Me: “I forgot to mention that The Fifth Paw is made in the U.S.A. and we love that. Actually, I love everything about this cool little leash attachment. It reminds me of the first time I used an actual pooper scooper instead of a shovel. I couldn’t see how I lived without one for so long. It is the same way with The Fifth Paw.”
Bentley: “I know that you won yours in a One Dog Organic Bakery gift basket, but where can our friends buy them?”

ME: “I did get mine from One Dog Organic and right now they are having a fantastic sale! As far as The Fifth Paw, they are available at these locations. It really is a game-changer and our walks are so much nicer. You are right; carrying poop bags is definitely no longer cool.”
Bentley: “Yeah, it never was, Mom, it never was. What is cool is following The Fifth Paw on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. Just tell them Bentley sent you!”

  3. Two Great Danes...he probably should have brought a wagon. We're lucky that we walk where there are rubbish bins, so nothing has to be carried far.

  4. I wonder if they have a 9th and 13th paw depending on how many of us are walking? We don't have one, not sure if we want one, but we do always hear good things about this product. Keep on walking!

  6. I totally like this invention. Once my momma put my recycled food in a bag, butt there was no garbage can... after she had it in her hand for 87 hours, she decided to put the bag in her bag and there... well ya know... my dad's wallet screamed like a banshee as she demanded a new bag :o)

  14. *cough*cough* Um, just for the record, we did NOT invent Arbor Day (HEEEE!!)
But we're totally behind "Give Your Pet EXTRA TREATS ALL DAY LONG Day." (which is just a variant of National Dog Treat Day).
Think we have a chance of making that one happen?

  15. I keep being amazed at all the clever dog products people keep coming up with and wondering why I didn't think of it first. Pet ownership gets easier all the time. Thanks for a great review.

  21. This is brilliant. Sometimes walking my little sister is a two-handed sport . . . which can get a little dangerous when one hand is holding a big bag of stinky poo!

  22. Neat. Maybe they'll consider making one for small dogs in the future. Mr. N's leashes are all 3/8.

  23. The best invention! We saw this in store and always wondered how it worked - and then your review really turned the tables for us, so we bought it! Wowza, totally lub it! Thank you!!

  25. That is a really clever idea! It would be pretty gross to have to carry bags of poop in your hand or pocket the whole time you are out on a walk. I would definitely want a gadget like this if I had a dog.

  26. My dog mom & dad hate carrying my poop so much so I hear them debate about.... Dog Mom: pick it up now and lets go ahead and carry it cause I don't want the neighbors to think we just left it. Dog Dad: we can pick it up as we walk back past it Dog Mom: but what if they see us and think we're just leaving it. So they end up compromising by picking it up in the bag, leaving the bag and picking it back up on the way home. Secretly though I know dog mom is worried the neighbors will still think they are not coming back for it. This is perfect!! I'll be sure it's on my wish list!! ~Shasta
