BFTB NETWoof News February 1, 2016 #dognews

Bentley: “Welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News for the first week of February 2016. We have some great stories as well as our own Weather Lab; Paisley with this week’s forecast. My colleague, Pierre Westie has our top story.”

Pierre: “Our top story is perfect for the first day of the month of love. The Humane Society is sending 200 Super Bowl care packages to military K9’s and their partners. Joining with Military Working Dog Team Support Association (MWDTSA), the Humane Society is furnishing our deployed military heroes items to help raise their spirits for the Big Game. In addition to the human treats, each care package will include a blanket, dog toothbrush, nail trimmer, Bowser Beer™, Pet Chatz®, Dynamo Dog Treats®, a Nerf ball, and styptic powder. We send our best to these brave K9s and thank them for their duty. If you would like to help or send a care package, you can contact MWDTSA to volunteer. The United States War Dogs Assoc., Inc. also takes donations. It is a terrific way to spread some love this month.”

Bentley: “I do admire those military K9’s. The dog in our next story isn’t a working K9, but she might consider it as a career. Ludivine, an Alabama Bloodhound has done what few dogs have done before. When she was let out to take care of her business, she decided to join a group of runners at the beginning of a 13.1-mile half marathon. That’s right, without a leash or a human, Ludivine kept pace with some of the leading runners as they wound their way along the course. Sure, she stopped to catch a whiff of dead stuff or splash in the water, but that’s to be expected from a hound. After running almost 1 ½ hours, Ludivine finished in 7th place out of 165 runners and was first place among the female participants! After receiving her medal, someone phoned her humans to come get her. We’d like to thank Sweet William the Scot and Dustin for this story. Remember if you dig up a news story, let us know and if we report it, you’ll get a shout-out!”
Pierre: “That is one impressive run. In another racing story, Norman, a German Short-Haired Pointer entered in the Swedish Ski Dog National Championship won in spite of having to take a doody break during the race. Of course, the puparazzi was there to capture it on film. I wasn’t familiar with this sport, but it appears to be a race where the dog is tethered to a human that is wearing skis and the dogs must pull them through the snow. Norman can flash his gold medal at anyone who might laugh at the embarrassing poop video.”

Bentley: “Well, you know what they say about ‘when doody calls.’ Our last story will lead us to the weather forecast. Last week during Winter Storm Jonas, a family found a piglet freezing on a snowbank. They stopped and rescued the wee pig and took it to Popular Spring Animal Sanctuary. After an examination, they believe the bruised piglet fell off a truck on its way to a slaughterhouse. Thanks to the kindness of these strangers, this little piggy will not go to market, but will live its life with 50 pig friends at the sanctuary.”

Paisley: “Thanks for the Winter Storm Jonas intro. That was one gnarly snowstorm! We have some photos from our Uncle A in New York City. You can see the snow was super deep. The snow will be in the center of the country this week, but it won’t be that much! The west coast will see scattered clouds with cool to warm temperatures. Those cloudy skies will bring rain to Washington and Oregon. The north will be cool to chilly and the northeast states will be mild. Our friends on the east coast will experience some storms midweek. Florida will be cool and dry but the surrounding states will have some storms. Texas and Louisiana will be warm but should see a few thunderstorms roll through early this week. It will be better than last week but remember Tuesday is Groundhog Day. That means we might still have six more weeks of winter weather.”

Bentley: “I like groundhogs but I will never plant my garden on the word of a rodent. Just sayin’. A quick reminder to our Blogville residents; your photos for the big Valentine’s Day parade must be sent to with Frankie and Ernie or Beechnut and Shelldon by this Friday, February 5th. You can get more information on their sites. It is going to be a lot of fun so join us.

Thank you for joining us on the Bayou for this week’s news. We’d appreciate you telling your friends about us by retweeting our tweet. You can also follow us on social media at Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest. Have an awesome week and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  12. Those Super Bowl packs for the military K9’s sound terrific but I bet those dogs were wishing for some spicy chicken wings, sliders, nachos, potato skins and maybe some Nati City chili. In the sports news those dogs are really pounding their paws. Don't trust the groundhog ~ why those things bite you in more ways than one.
    Thanks for being a friend

  14. Those groundhogs sure get a lot of attention even though historically they have been terrible at predicting the weather.

  16. Our local news ran the story about Ludivine...only when announcing the story they kept saying "a small dog ran a half marathon...". I kept wondering who wrote that lead in, and if anyone had watched the video, because I'm pretty sure bloodhounds wouldn't be considered small dogs! LOL
I know you guys would always get the story right!
