BFTB NETWoof News February 8 2016 #DogNews

Bentley: “Hello and welcome to this edition of BFTB NETWoof News. We have some great news to start your week off with a smile. Here on the Bayou, we are celebrating the end of Mardi Gras. Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday or the last night to party before the official end of the carnival season on Ash Wednesday. So, Laissez les bons temps rouler or let the good times roll! My co-anchor Pierre the Westie has our top story.”

Pierre: “Hold on to your hats for this one! Barking from the Bayou is teaming up with My GBGV Life and Dr. Harvey’s for a fun-tastic Instagram contest! That’s right; together we are hosting a Hound Huggles Valentine’s Day contest. Here is how it works; you post a photo of you and your dog hugging, follow and tag @mkclinton, @MyGBGVLife and @DoctorHarveys then use our hashtag #houndhuggles. The complete rules can be found at the bottom of this newscast. One lucky winner will receive a Dr. Harvey’s Treat Prize Package! That includes Coconut Smiles, Le’Dogue Bites, Power Patties and Sweet Potate’rs. Bentley, can you take over? I’m drooling on myself.”

Bentley: “I can certainly understand why. We love Dr. Harvey’s so much that we became Ambassadors for the company. This is such an awesome contest, it’s a real shame that we can’t win! Speaking of winning, this next report is about winning the Name Game. The Columbus Zoo welcomed a Polar bear cub into the world on November 6th and decided to hold a contest in order to select her name. The choices were Desha, Nora, Kaya, or Sakari. Over 88,000 votes from 115 countries were tallied and her name is officially Nora.”
Pierre: “The Name Game; Nora, Nora bo Bora, Bonana fanna fo Fora, fe fy mo Mora, Nora! Let’s do Pierre…sorry, I got carried away. Drat, I’m going to be singing that silly song all day. A couple of stray dogs have quite a story to tell after they were spotted in a Jersey City park prior to the blizzard. Animal Control officers arrived to capture them and shot one of them in the neck after feeling threatened. Both dogs ran off together after the incident with one shot and bleeding. Winter Storm Jonas arrived and the effort to find and rescue the dogs intensified. They were found in a trap that the animal control officers had set up. Upon their capture, the injured dog was taken to a veterinarian for surgery. The bullet had exited the neck without hitting any vital organs. The two have been reunited and are waiting for a forever home, hopefully together.”

Bentley: “Did you hear the one about the sea lion who walked into a seafood restaurant? This is not a set-up to a joke, it really happened in La Jolla, California.  The sea lion was sick and close to starvation when it made its way into The Marine Room restaurant located on the beach. The staff found the sea lion pup asleep in one of the booths and called Sea World San Diego. They report that the 8-month female aptly named Marina is being nursed back to health. She will someday be returned to the wild. I guess Marina gave that restaurant her official Sealion of Approval!”
Pierre: “That is exactly what I was thinking. Our last report will leave you with a smile. A newly retired Ohio police officer has been allowed to purchase his K9 partner. The city had first determined the K9 named Ajax was not ready to retire. The officer was originally told that he would have to buy the dog at auction according to state law. A trainer told him the cost could be over $3,500. A city official offered to allow the policeman to become an unpaid auxiliary officer and buy the dog for $1.00 when it reached retirement age. He declined for health reasons. As news of the auction spread, the officer received an outpouring of support. A GoFundMe page was able to raise over $70,000 to ensure that he would win his partner at the auction. Finally, after the eyes of the nation turned toward the city of Marietta, they decided that the dog could retire. The officer was allowed to adopt this best friend for one dollar. The money from the GoFundMe page will be donated the Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. That is a non-profit that provides bullet and stab-proof vests to our country’s police dogs. That officer and many others with K9 partners hope that Ohio law will be changed.”

Bentley: “Everybody knows yesterday was a HUGE day for sports. The Kitten Bowl lll and Puppy Bowl Xll were both held and filled with claw-biting excitement. The Puppy Bowl started on level ground but it wasn’t long before Team Ruff was in the lead. The final score was Team Ruff 40 Team Fluff 44

The Kitten Bowl was a much closer game. Thanks to an incredible last second field goal by Noodles, the Felines enjoyed a win over the Lions 38 to 37. It was a picture purr~fect ending for the Feline fans!

The best thing about both of these Bowl games is that it shines a light on all of the adorable adoptable pets waiting for their forever homes. Many of the players are still looking for homes. This is really my favorite day for sports. Did you watch the Puppy Bowl or Kitten Bowl? Let us know in the comments.”

Paisley: “I howled and barked so much at the Puppy Bowl, I’m a little hoarse. That was really an exciting game! The weather is something we can get excited about this week. I’m sorry that I missed the severity of some of your snow last week. Most of the snow will be in the northeast from Minnesota to Upstate New York during the first part of the week. The center of the U.S. is going to be enjoying a warm-up after a few days in the 30’s. It will be breezy and partly cloudy in the south while most of the west coast is going to love their gorgeous weather. There will be a little rain in the Carolinas and Georgia to start their workweek. After Wednesday, it looks as if almost everyone will have nice weather continuing through the weekend. That’s it from the BFTB Weather Lab, back to you, Bentley.”
Bentley: “Thanks, Paisley. We look forward to seeing your #HoundHuggle Instagram photos. It will be a sweet way to share your puppy love this holiday. Join us all week as we show you how to make a quick and inexpensive Valentine’s Day treat for your dogs, take a look at Dr. Harvey’s Canine Health, and so much more. Don’t miss the fun and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”
