BFTB NETWoof Dog News March 7, 2016

Bentley: “Hello and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. We have some great dog stories to put a smile on your face. Joining me at the news desk are my co-anchor, Pierre Westie, and the best Weather Lab on the Bayou, Paisley. What is our Top Story, Pierre?”

Pierre: “Our top story is one that is close to our hearts. I’m sure that you have heard the old saying, ‘Bad things happen to good people.’ Well, it is true and to prove that fact, our awesome friend Flea from Jones Natural Chews was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Flea is one of the nicest and funniest people that we know.
We are sending all of our best thoughts and prayers to her, but that is not all. This week, we are joining Oz the Terrier to co-host a blog hop in her honor, Fight 4 Flea. We are asking all of our blogging buddies to post a get well message of support for her.  You can join the hop any time through March 13th and link up with us. Together we can show Flea that we are with her as she kicks cancer’s butt!”
Bentley: “She is definitely the only Flea that all the dogs love! We have a special post for her this Wednesday that you don’t want to miss. Our next report spotlights a great dog right here in Louisiana!  Honey, a three-year-old Bloodhound is very good at tracking down deer in and around the woods of Sabine parish. It was a different hunt that he is famous for now. A child that is the same age as Honey wandered off through a hole in a fence and disappeared. When a neighbor called and asked Honey’s owner if he thought she could help, he answered honestly saying that he didn’t know. You see, Honey is a hunting dog, not a tracking hound. They let her get a smell of the boy’s coat before heading out to search. After two hours and in spite of the wind and rain, the Bloodhound found the child sitting in a mud puddle. It was a joyous occasion and Honey is our newest hero dog!”

Pierre: “Way to be awesome, Honey! The next story is about another hero named Ben. He had served faithfully by the side of his soldier on the front lines of Afghanistan. After deployment, the veteran was supposed to be allowed to adopt Ben, but that didn’t happen. He was adopted by a civilian who came across the soldier’s name on the dog’s deployment papers. She decided it was only right to contact him and ask if he had wanted to adopt his K9 companion. It was decided that they would meet and let the dog have a say in the decision. When Ben saw his soldier, he was ecstatic! It was decided after watching the dog with the soldier’s children that he should be their best friend. It was bittersweet for the lady that had adopted and come to love Ben, but she has no regrets. The veteran was hesitant because Ben was obviously happy at his new home but his guardian insisted, ‘He didn’t go to war with me.’ The two are now living together in peace here in the Good Ol’ U.S.A.”

Bentley: “Our last news story is about the dangers of DWD or driving while dog. A man left his semi-truck idling at a Minnesota gas station when a golden Labrador Retriever decided to go for a joyride. The dog put the truck in gear, went through a parking lot, jumped a curb and crashed into a tree. He was not injured and couldn’t understand what all of the fuss was about. After all, who hasn’t seen those commercials with the dogs driving? Apparently, to operate a semi- truck a simple dog license is not acceptable.”

Pierre: “I imagine that landed the trucker in the dog house too! Let’s take a look at this week’s sports. The annual Iditarod is underway in Alaska. Eighty-five teams set out on a 1,000-mile trek from Willow to Nome yesterday. They should reach the finish line around March 15 or 16th. Wow, that makes our little two-mile walks somehow seem rather underwhelming. In other sports news, the scandal that has surrounded Hank the mascot of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team is finally settled. You might remember the story of Hank who showed up at the team’s spring training camp and was adopted by the team. (You can read it on Dec. 12, 2014 BFTB NETWoof News)Rumors began to swirl that the dog seen recently was not the same Hank because he looked so much more handsome. The team supplied a vet’s letter stating it was indeed the same dog and proved it with the microchip information. Remember, love and attention can change the way a dog looks. Hank hit a home run with his choice of teammates!”
dog weather report with forecast map
Paisley: “Hiya, boys! The weather always comes after sports so here I am with my weather map. As you can see the forecast is a wet one! Here on the Bayou, we can expect anywhere from 7 to 10” of rain before the end of the week. We might need to use the BFTB boat to get around! Actually, most of the country will experience rainfall from the west coast all the way through the center of the U.S.! The north will have milder temperatures and the east coast can expect a gradual warming. It will be cloudy in the northeast and the southeast. I think the sun decided to go on vacation before spring hits! Back to you, Bentley.”
Bentley: “As I like to say, when it is raining cats and dogs, always be careful to not step in a Poodle! Hahaha! Seriously, we appreciate everyone joining us for BFTB NETWoof News and hope you visit us each day this week. We have a yummy review, our Flea tribute, some great information on dog brushes, and hopefully, the results of my very own allergy test. Believe me; you don’t want to miss a day. Have a super week and be sure to grab yourself some happy!”

  5. Oh man! How did we not hear about the Flea Hop? I will have to post something on the 13th, as this week is booked solid. We love Flea, and thank dog for your news so we don't miss these important things. BTW, that Minnesota driving dog sure gives us dogs with a license here in the state a bad rap!

  7. Oh, I have my post up for Miss Flea boys. I know that the hop is going to make her feel so much better! I did not hear the story about Ben but what a wonderful lady to look up and find the soldier who Ben served with so they could have a chance to reunite. It takes a strong person to love a dog that much to give it to the soldier who obviously loved and missed Ben. Great news report!

  8. Wow, great feel-good stories today! I'm in for helping Flea and I love that Honey found that mini-two legger. The soldier story is great too and I bet they have a wonderful life together in peace now instead of war. Gee, I guess I should re-think my joy ride plans since it didn't work out for the Golden. BOL ahem.

  15. I have been following the Iditarod and this year they are having to haul in snow for the Iditarod Teams and the route has been made shorter. The dogs need more snow like the poor polar bears need ice and snow. Wonderful news about finding the child.
