BFTB NETWoof News May 23, 2016 #DogNews

Bentley: “Hello and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. I’m joined at the desk by my co-anchor Pierre the Westie and Paisley the Weather Lab. We have fetched some great stories to put a smile on your face. As always, no politics or doomin’ and gloomin’, we will leave that news to a human. What is our top story, Pierre?”

Pierre: “You know how we love great rescue story and this one doesn’t disappoint. A German Shepherd survived five weeks with two broken bones on a highway median in northern California. The pup fell from a truck on April 10th and drivers immediately flooded 9-1-1 with calls. When the officers arrived, the pup had vanished. This game of cat and mouse went on for five weeks until some clever police work managed to capture the emaciated female dog. Dubbed “Freeway Frida” nobody knows for certain, but many think she drank rainwater and ate whatever she could catch in the bushes to live. In a happily-ever-after story, the officer that rescued her is going to adopt her.”

Bentley: “I am sure glad they got her off the highway. Dogs are good at repaying humans for being their heros too. Take Pacer, the dog that fought off a bear to save its owner as the perfect example. He and his human were running in a Prince George, British Columbia park when a mother black bear appeared with her two cubs. She came out of the woods charging toward the man. Mama bear knocked the man to the ground and Pacer sprang into action. He began biting the bear and temporarily distracted it. When the bear went back for the man, the Border Collie went in for another attack. This time, the bear chased the dog and the man was able to call for help. He needed 16 stitches in his hand and received some claw scratches on his stomach. Hero Pacer showed up at a friend’s house about a mile away from the encounter.”

Pierre: “It sounds like they both ‘bear-ly’ escaped! That is really wild! Speaking of wild, you know that everything is for sale on Craig’s List, right? Well, someone recently listed Bullet, their pet bison for sale. The owner has been treating the 8-year-old Bullet as any other 1,000-pound family member. She roams the house with the grace of a large dog and even gets on the couch. Bullet is looking for more room but still needs human contact. For $6,000 you can make this bison buddy your own.”

Bentley: “Mom would draw the line at pooper scooping after a bison. That visual makes me laugh. Do you remember that song The Y.M.C.A. by The Village People? It’s a classic at ballgames here in the south. Apparently, one alligator in South Carolina took the song literally and decided to stay at a Y.M.C.A. swimming pool. Oh, young man, ♫ it’s fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A. until they send a ♪ diver down to remove you. The 3-foot gator was released back into a local estuary without incident. The gator was heard mumbling something about The Village People letting him down.”
Pierre: “It’s probably for the best. With those short little gator arms, he probably couldn’t do the dance moves anyway. I’m sure that you can sympathize. Ummm…sorry. Maybe we had better check in with our Weather Lab Paisley. What’s happening outside this week?”
Paisley: “I know that everybody feels they need gills with all of the rain this spring! Rubber boots will be all the fashion up north from coast to coast with scattered showers. It will be nice on the west coast and warm in the southwest. We should expect more rain here in the south and the temps will be in the 80’s. Florida could see some storms too. Y’all need to keep an eye to the sky. The east coast is going to be cool and wet. Those of you in the center of the United States should enjoy a mild week in weather.
I’d like to remind y’all that all of this rain is the perfect breeding environment for mosquitoes. Please check out our post, Fetch Year –Round Parasite Protection for some great information and a survey you can take. Back to you, Bentley.”
Bentley: “We’d like to remind everyone about our awesome contest to win a Flagology house flag! You can also save 15% off flags and doormats with code BFTB.
