BFTB NETWoof News May 9, 2016

Bentley: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of May 9, 2016. Let me begin by wishing all of the mothers out there a very happy belated Mother’s Day. We hope that you were spoiled rotten. Let’s go to my co-anchor Pierre for our top story.”
BFTB NETWoof News Top Story Joe the Chimp

Pierre: “Why isn’t the fact that I killed a mole the top story? It was for Mother’s Day and everything but if you think the chimp deserves top billing, so be it. Our top story this week is about Joe, a chimpanzee that has appeared in television and movies. He has spent the last 16 years in solitary confinement as an attraction for a roadside zoo. PETA filed charges against the owner and won. Joe has been transferred to Florida’s chimp sanctuary where he has already made new friends. Okay, I’ll admit that was a heartwarming rescue story but my mole was a gift from the heart. Just sayin’.”

Bentley: “We are all impressed with your big mole takedown. This next story is impressive too. A farmer in China rescued a malnourished “puppy” off the streets a few weeks ago. The Good Samaritan assumed it was a Kunming wolfdog which is kept as domestic pets. When he noticed his new friend’s front paws growing at an unusually fast rate, he called wildlife officials. Imagine his surprise when he was informed the pup was an endangered Asian black bear. It is believed the cub strayed in from the nearby forest. They are keeping it at a local shelter until it can be returned to the wild.”

Pierre: “A Jack Russell Terrier tried out his sea legs near Hernando Beach in the Gulf of Mexico. His human reported him missing after he had gone below deck and realized his dog, Jagermeister was missing. He searched and contacted the Coast Guard to report the incident. Luckily, two couples that were also out boating had discovered the water-logged pup wearing its life jacket with his nose sticking up out of the water. Seeing the boat, Jagermeister paddled over and they lifted him into their boat. When they called the Coast Guard to report their discovery, they were quickly reunited with the dog’s grateful owner.”
Bentley: “It a good thing the pup had on a life jacket. This last report makes us very happy. The Arizona Legislature has sent a bill to the governor’s desk that will end dog racing at the close of 2016.  Unanimous votes in the Senate and the House show that it is time to end the sport of dog racing once and for all. I think that I can hear a chorus of grateful greyhounds and we join that choir. Most retired greyhounds are not promised a happily ever after like thoroughbred racehorses. It is a double standard, for sure. Way to be awesome Arizona!”

Pierre: “Our friend Bailie from My GBGV Life showed off her awesome sense of smell this weekend. She earned her NW1 Title (Nose Work Level 1). See her ginormous ribbon? We are so proud of her! Her nose always knows best. We want to give a shout-out to Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist on an impressive win. I don’t predict another Triple Crown winner but it was an exciting race.”
Paisley: “Ahem…cough, cough. Hey, guys! Sorry that I’m running late I have been babysitting my new little sister, Emery. As you can see in this photo she depends on me to protect her while she naps. She is such a wee thing that it is hard for me to leave her, but I am here with this week’s weather forecast.
As you can see from our map it is going to be another wet one! If you live anywhere from the center of the U.S. to the east coast, you can expect some scattered storms this week. Hopefully, we can get a couple of days to dry out but it looks mighty soggy. The west coast will have sunny and mild weather. It’s going to be hot in Arizona and breezy in the Colorado area. You can count on Florida to be warm and sunny this week too. That does it for this week. I hope that everyone gets a chance to enjoy some time outdoors. I’d also like to wish my mom a Happy Mother’s Day and thank her for my new baby girl.
BFTB NETWoof Weather

Bentley: “You are always excused to puppy-sit my niece. I still can’t wait to smell her! We have some exciting news here on the Bayou. My human sister (Pierre’s Mom) came to visit us for Mother’s Day. She will be here scratching bellies and getting kisses all week so we might not get to visit as much as we usually do. We hope that you all understand. It has been almost two years since we’ve seen her. Mom recorded us when she came in the house. You will probably get to see that this week. We also have some great dog treats and tomorrow we pay homage to some of our best buddies that have had to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Please join us each day for something new and exciting. Make sure that you are following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more pics and fun! You can fetch Barking from the Bayou in your email by subscribing in the upper right sidebar or on Bloglovin’. Have a great week and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  1. oh wow that's a surprise if the puppy becomes a bear... that's hard to bear :o) I'm glad for Joe that he found a better place... as much as I loved Daktari or movies with tame animals as I was a child, the story behind all the entertainment is mostly a sad one :o(

  6. I'm glad Joe's been moved to a sanctuary, 16 years in solitary confinement is insane. And it still amazes me that dog racing is still a thing here, good for Arizona. So glad that little Jack Russell was rescued :)
