A Dog-Friendly Visit to the American Rose Center

A lovely walk in the Gardens of the American Rose Center
On the outskirts of Shreveport, Louisiana you will find the 118-acre Gardens of the American Rose Center. It is the nation’s largest park dedicated to roses. June is National Rose month, so I 'picked' this time to share our local attraction with you.

You can stroll along with your leashed dogs through the wooded trails and rose gardens. There are a variety of statues and benches for perfect photo ops.
Pink, yellow and peach roses

The Gardens are home to 65 individual rose gardens and thousands of rosebushes. Spring roses peak near the end of April and the first of May.

The Durham Japanese Teahouse & Garden is one of many peaceful places you can stop for a break on your tour. The greenery was gorgeous surrounding the quaint structure.

On the 2nd Saturday of each month, the American Rose Center presents their Green Thumb series seminar featuring a host of topics and speakers.

The dogs enjoyed sniffing the flowers and checking out all of the sculptures and fountains. There are awesome smells to be found everywhere in the park for a scent hound!

With so many roses, you are bound to find one in your favorite color. You can look but you are not allowed to cut any of the flowers. Their beauty is for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to the year-round beauty of the flowers, The Gardens of the American Rose Center is a destination for weddings, an annual Easter egg hunt, and Christmas at Roseland.

Your visit to Shreveport, Louisiana wouldn’t be complete without our state flower, the southern magnolia.

After a stop at the picnic area and playground, we are saying good-bye for now. We will return when the fall roses are at their peak.
Stop sign with "smell the roses" message

  3. LOL! Love that stop sign! We've never heard of this place. Just be careful when smelling roses that your long floppy ears don't get hooked in the thorny stems! I howl from experience!
