BFTB NETWoof Dog News July 18, 2016

Bentley: “Hello and welcome to another BFTB NETWoof News where we fetch you stories to give you a smile. There are so many horrible things happening these days, some good news is always needed. Pierre is joining me as my co-anchor and we have the lovely Paisley as the BFTB Weather Lab. Let’s get to our top story.”

Pierre: “We start the week off with some fun news about the latest nationwide phenomenon, Pokémon Go. If you are one of the millions out searching for the imaginary little critters and happen upon a real animal or insect, you can get help identifying the species. Morgan Jackson, who is an entomologist and doctoral student in Canada at the University of Guelph, started the hashtag #PokeBlitz. After seeing his hashtag, other experts have joined in to help connect people with the real world animals through Twitter and their phones. You can snap a photo of a snake, bug or bird and there will be someone to tell you what you’ve found. Remember not to disturb wildlife while playing and always be aware of your surroundings. If you’re playing Pokémon Go and have found an animal, let us know in the comments.”

Bentley: “I’m not playing the app but I sure wish that I’d invented it. Speaking of apps, if you use Uber and have a service animal, the driver must allow your animal in their vehicle according to the U.S. District Court in Northern California. Uber will terminate the contracts of driver’s that refuse to comply. They are also paying $45,000 to the Disability Rights Advocates Client Trust Fund. The National Federation of the Blind brought the lawsuit in 2014 after blind people with service dogs were denied a ride and will receive $225,000 for its testing program. We don’t have Uber in our city, but I can only hope people don’t try to bring fake service dogs in the cars!”
BFTB NETWoof Dogs news with dog hanging from truck story on backdrop
Pierre: “Airlines have enough trouble with bogus service animals. There are times that we have to worry about humans. Here is a prime example of what I'm talking about. A dog was found hanging from a truck window in a Kansas parking lot. The owner left the pup on its leash in the cab of the truck with the windows rolled down. The dog tried to jump out and hung itself. Luckily, two police officers were able to cut the leash and revive the weary dog. It boggles my mind what the owner was thinking to leave an animal in such a vicarious position. Thank goodness for the quick-acting police.”
Bentley: “Paisley, what is going on with the weather in the U.S. this week?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather for the U.S.A.
Paisley: “It is going to be another scorcher this week. The northwest will be partly cloudy but most of the United States will see sunshine and high temperatures. There will be scattered storms over Florida, New Mexico, and Arizona. The east coast can expect some isolated thunderstorms but will remain hot. Don’t be surprised if some of the southern states are placed under an excessive heat warning. Remember to provide plenty of fresh water and shade for your pets when they are outdoors for any length of time.”
BFTB NETWoof Dog News with gorgeous dog wearing a BFTB bandana
Bentley: “It sounds like early morning or evening walks are called for this week. We’d like to remind everyone about our BFTB bandana offer for any animal news or sports stories that you submit. You can see from this photo of Gruber from New York that they are quite stylish. Fetch one while supplies last! We have some great posts scheduled for this week; a terrific jerky treat, a movie review, Pierre talks about his new bed and we salute AAHA veterinary clinics. Be sure to stop back by the Bayou or add us in your email by signing up with Feedburner or Bloglovin’ in the upper right-hand side of this blog. You don't want to miss a single day of fun. On a sad note; we would like to send our thoughts and prayers to our state capital of Baton Rouge and the senseless killings of three police officers. Barking from the Bayou wishes everyone a safe week and no matter what, grab yourself some happy.”

  1. we don't do that pokemon-thing (the mama had to google as they had it in the news last week lol) and we don't do Uber, our real taxi drivers mostly agree with fourlegged passengers and they find a solution for peeps&pets :o)

  2. My mom doesn't like gaming stuff at all, so she isn't playing Pokemon Go, but I downloaded it to my phone so I can play. That dog that was hanging from his vehicle was sure lucky. Katie once jumped out of the moving convertible when she was young and wild, but she had her seat belt harness on and just hung over the side until the vehicle stopped. She wasn't in any danger, but it was a good reminder to buckle up! Have a great week, and stay cool! Bailie will try to get a title next weekend. We'll let you know if she does!

  3. Maybe Uber should get with the times and offer to allow dogs anyway, it might help pick up business!
It's hot here today, and thunderstorms expected this afternoon. I'm going to need to remember to get the Calming Collars on the crew early!

  8. We didn't get Pokeman back in the 90's and 20 years hasn't made it any easier to figure out what all the hubbub is about. People in my neighborhood have nearly crashed into us playing that on their phones. So silly and dangerous!

  9. I'm thinking if a person had a service dog, they'd have paperwork to prove that. I am a therapy dog, but NOT a service dog. Service dogs should have papers. That would cut out the possibility of fakes.

  12. I think it's so cool that a game is helping to get people more active with their own dogs, and I'm loving all those sweet stories of people helping out dogs they find while playing. And oh my goodness that photo of the dog hanging out of the truck broke my heart; I'm so glad the police were there to save him.

  14. I was so shocked when I saw the news about the dog hanging out the window. How did the driver not notice that?? I'm always glancing in the rear view mirror at my dogs to make sure they're OK. Unbelievable.
