Help Your Dog Stay Calmz

Barking from the Bayou LLC received a Calmz Anxiety Relief System in exchange for an honest review. We only share products that we use and believe would benefit our readers. Calmz is not responsible for the contents of this article.

If you are one of the thousands of pet parents whose dog suffers from anxiety, then you know that you will try just about anything to help them. Bentley does not like thunderstorms or fireworks. Those are his two biggest anxiety triggers. Over the past eight years, I have tried countless products with varying degrees of success. To date, our biggest success comes from an all-natural herbal blend that I add to his food. I usually give it to him on days that bad weather is forecasted.
It would still be wonderful to slip something on him in the event of a sudden pop-up thunderstorm. That is where this innovative new device comes in to save the day. I was able to have a private meeting with the Calmz Anxiety Relief System representative in Phoenix. She explained to me how the device worked and I agreed to give it a try.

Bentley Basset looks on as I slip the Calmz unit in his vest
Fitting the Calmz vest is simple and I was surprised that Bentley fit great in the medium size. He is used to wearing a harness so he accepted the Calmz vest without any problem. The device itself vibrates and emits a soft musical tone. I turned it on and held it against his body so he could get used to the feel and sound of it. He didn’t seem to mind it so it was time to program the device and slip it into the slot on the vest.
How does the Calmz Anxiety Relief System Work?
Calmz is a patent-pending therapy system clinically proven to reduce anxiety in certain animals when used according to directions. The device operates with 3 AAA batteries (included) and fits into a pocket on the back of the vest. It uses NeuroSync Technology™ that delivers a blend of tones, soothing music, and vibrational therapy. This allows the dog to feel and hear a relaxing combination.
What is NeuroSync Technology?
I’m glad that you asked. According to the Calmz pamphlet, “It is the blend of classical music with an underlying tone which emits a vibration massage to help increase blood flow to the brain and reduce adrenaline, helping calm and relieve stress."
There are 8 different settings to choose from. You can select low or high vibration intensity and either 6 or 18-minute run cycle. The device does not run constantly. It allows you to set an 8-hour repeat mode where it turns on for 6 minutes and turns off for 54 minutes or it will run for 18 minutes and turn off for 102 minutes. It depends on which cycle works best with your dog.
Our Calmz Experiments
Experiment 1 ~ After sizing Bentley and allowing him to experience the feel of the device, we decided our first test would be the dreaded 4th of July holiday. He hates fireworks with a passion and refuses to go outside when neighbors are celebrating. That means he waits for hours to relieve himself. I’m sure many of you can relate to that problem. We had family visiting during the test time which also gets him hyped up. A poll of the family members showed that everyone agreed Bentley was more relaxed.
Experiment 2 ~ I was pleased with the way he reacted during the fireworks but our big issue is thunder. We know that if a thunderstorm is coming, we can forget about sleep. Bentley paws the bed and whines so loudly that nobody is going to rest for the duration of the thunderstorm. Of course, it is summer on the bayou and that means hot dry conditions hindered our test. Finally, we had some rain heading our way so I slipped him into his Calmz vest and waited. It was a short-lived thunderstorm but he did seem better. Not completely relaxed but no pacing, panting, or whining.
Experiment 3 ~ As it sometimes happens, a horrible storm hit one afternoon. There were high winds, loud claps thunder, and constant lightning. I put Bentley in his Clamz vest but this time, it was different. Perhaps I put it on him too late or the storm was just too severe but he did not relax at all. In all honesty, I don’t know that anything would have helped him during this particular storm. It was pretty scary for humans too.
My opinion of the Calmz Anxiety Relief System is that it did make a difference in Bentley’s anxiety. If your dog has anxiety, I recommend looking into this new device. 6. He could test it out next time he sees me so he isn't so nervous, and maybe my mom could use one when she is nervous. It sounds like a good idea if your dog has anxiety issues. Bails has a few, I'm not afraid of anything. I'm a tough girl.

  8. Fantastic review and a product to seriously consider. Hope you are well and reasonably dry. We've been hearing those weather stories about the flooding in your state and hope and pray you and the critters are safe and dry. ღ

  10. I think sometimes things like this can be hit or miss; they work for some dogs and not others, and they work sometimes but not always. I think anything safe like this is worth a try!
