Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 16, 2017. We hope that you are having a terrific day. As always, we have fetched the news you won’t find on other media outlets. My co-anchor Pierre Westie has our top story.”
Pierre Westie: “It was a crazy week for animals in the news but we have narrowed down our favorites. The top story will make you believe in happy endings.
A year ago a woman in South Carolina adopted a small dog only hours after it was surrendered due to his owner of seven years being put into a nursing facility. Everything was great with Tippy, who she renamed Eddie, until his new owner’s mom broke her hip and had to recoup in a convalescent home. When she became depressed, the daughter thought it would cheer her up to see Eddie. Of course, a visit from the pup brought joy and snuggles to his grandmom. When she asked for more pain medication, the daughter took Eddie and went to find a nurse. That was when she heard someone say, “Tippy?” She turned around only to realize that she was looking at the lady who had to surrender her beloved dog. The tears flowed at the incredible reunion. Eddie’s new mom says he now has two moms and will continue to bring him to visit the woman who loved him first.”
Bentley: “Awww, that is so sweet. Now I wonder why I didn’t report that feel-good story instead of this one. It is anything but sweet although it serves as an important warning. We all know people that love to sleep with their pets. That includes a lady that enjoyed cuddling with her python. As incredible as it seems, she loved having it curl from her head to toe each night. After noticing the snake had quit eating, she took it to the veterinarian. The vet checked the snake out and didn’t find anything wrong. Once he questioned the owner about its living conditions, she readily explained how the snake sleeps with her each night. Imagine her surprise when it was explained the python had stopped eating in anticipation of a huge meal…her! Let’s hope that the snake is now cuddling in a cage at night. That just gives me the creeps!”
Pierre: “You wouldn’t catch me sleeping with a snake. *Shudder* To clear your mind of that slithery image, let me direct you to this story. A man in Canada stopped at a fast food restaurant with his two dogs to meet a friend. He let the dogs out to sniff around and relieve themselves. It was only a few seconds before he heard one of the dogs yelping. He immediately ran to see what was wrong. To his surprise, he saw another animal on top of his dog. Thinking it was a coyote, he punched the animal in the head. Once it released the dog and began to back up, the man realized he had just punched a cougar. Instead of cowering, he continued to swing and holler at the animal. Luckily, both the dog and the man were okay. The cougar was later found by officials and put down as a precaution. Do you think Mom would punch a cougar for us?”
Bentley: “I’m sure that she would give it her best shot. As you know, we try to include news for our feline friends and they are going to love this one! A tiny ringtail possum in Australia decided a cat would make a good parent for him. The little possum had become separated from its mother and climbed onto the back of the cat for warmth and security. Oscar the cat was very gentle and didn’t harm the baby. The fire department rescued the possum that has since been placed with a caregiver until it is old enough to survive on its own. I’m sure Oscar is keeping an eye on his surroundings to avoid another hitchhiker.
Paisley: “It is another week of mixed-up weather. The west coast will have more rain so everyone needs to prepare for that. When California gets too much rain too quickly, flooding and landslides may occur. Our northern states will remain cold and snowy along with the Great Plains. The center of the U.S. will be cold and breezy the first part of the week but will slightly warm as the week progresses. Southern states will experience rain and temperatures in the 70’s. If you are on the east coast, you will also need your umbrellas throughout the week. Always check with your local weather reports for updates and warnings. No matter what the weather is in your area, smile and carry some sunshine in your heart. Back to you on the Bayou, Bentley.”
Bentley: “Terrific job as always, Paisley. Before we sign off, Pierre and I wanted to ask our girls Emma and Bailie to join us for Kits, Kritters & K9s ♥ Day K-oss in Blogville. We have sent our photos to their mom and hope you girls will too. Visit Murphy and Stanley for the address.
We really appreciate everyone joining us today and would love for you to share our news with your friends on social media. Join us each day this week for more fun, laughs and ways to become a better pet parent. Stay safe out there and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”
