BFTB NETWoof News August 14, 2017

Bentley Basset Hound: “Welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News for August 14, 2017. It has been a busy week here on the bayou but we fetched some great reports for you. Let’s go straight to my co-anchor Pierre.”

Pierre Westie: “I think this is the first time that a cow made our top story but we believe that you’ll agree it is worthy. We all know that sometimes all animals need help when delivering a baby and a cow is no exception. A group of bicyclists were passing a cow in labor when they noticed she was in distress. One biker took off his shirt and went straight to work turning the breech calf. It took teamwork but they could turn the calf. They tied some rope around its front hooves and helped complete the delivery. After a few scary moments to get its heart beating, the mama cow began cleaning her baby as it opened it big eyes and nuzzled close.”

Bentley: “That is such a moo-ving story. *wink wink
This second story is about another unusual rescue. A chicken was out minding its own business in the yard when a hawk began swooping down. The chicken was getting the bad end of the attack when an unexpected hero appeared.
A goose came to the chicken’s defense and gave the hawk some serious attitude. We are happy to report both that these feathery friends are all fine. That hawk will learn to be more careful about who he picks on in the future.”

Pierre: “As dogs, we are taught to never bite the hand that feeds you. This report is an from several years ago but it shows that there’s an exception to every rule. A family in Vancouver, Washington had adopted a dog and they immediately made Patch part of the family. The small puppy grew much larger than expected and they had some serious talks about whether it was too big for their small home. The son begged to keep his dog so the parents agreed to think about it for a few days. It didn’t take long for Patch to prove how invaluable he was to his family.
The day after the discussion on the dog’s fate, Mom noticed Patch had come into the bathroom while she took a bath. That was weird because he HATES baths and avoided the bathroom at all costs. He began to gnaw on her wrist and it became apparent that he was trying to tell her something. She got out of the tub and peered down the hallway only to discover the house was engulfed in flames.    Thankfully, Patch had alerted her in enough time for both to escape. When she got outside, she realized her car keys were inside and she tried to run back in but Patch stood in front of her growling. He saved her a second time as the house exploded as he held her at bay. They now have a new home with plenty of room for Patch.
BFTB NETWoof News report on a dog nursing a kitten

Bentley: “We hope our last story shows that where there is evil, there is always good to triumph over it. A woman in Greece was taking out her garbage when she heard a tiny mewing from inside a tied bag. She opened the bag and discovered a tiny kitten that someone had “disposed” of in the cruelest way. Without hesitation, she took the newborn to a local dog that had just given birth. The mother dog welcomed the kitten to nurse. She didn’t care that it was not like her other children, she loved and cared for it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, humans could learn a lot from their pets.
Let’s throw it over to Paisley our Weather Lab for this week’s forecast.”
Paisley the BFTB NETWoof Weather Lab

Paisley the Weather Lab: “It is going to be another week of rain for much of the U.S. I know y’all were pounded hard this weekend with horrible thunderstorms, Bentley. I’m glad that y’all are okay. I know it was scary but hopefully, the that was the worst of it. Storms will accompany the humidity across most of the southern coast. Most of the area from the middle of our country to the east coast can expect storms throughout the week.
The New England states are the few places where it will be mostly nice weather. Scattered storms will keep our northern states ducking for cover. The longest dry spell since the 50’s will continue in the Seattle area. The temperatures will be warm and hopefully some of the thick smoke from a Canadian fire will clear out of Washington and Oregon. California will be hotter than it has been but the weather will be great. Here in Texas, I am looking forward to a week of hot breezy days.
I urge you to tune into your local weather channels for updates and warnings. No matter what the weather, enjoy yourself and your pets.”
Bentley: “You aren’t kidding about our storms! We had to get in the hall and it was scary. I am hoping we never have another storm like that one. Thank goodness, we are all okay and our neighborhood has electricity again.

    1. Exactly! It is not the first time an animal has saved its family from fire. We reported on a cat doing the same thing not long ago.

I'm not telling my hubby the goose/chicken story though...next thing I know we'll be getting geese (we do have a hawk that hangs around too but so far he's kept his distance).
