BFTB NETWoof News October 30, 2017

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News. We have fetched some great stories for you this week so let’s toss it over to Pierre for our Top Story.”
BFTB NETWoof News report on fake service dogs
Pierre Westie: “Have you seen a dog being passed off as a ‘service dog’ so they are allowed in a store or on a plane?
Were you able to recognize the dog was a fake? Actually, it’s the dog’s human that is the fraud and states are beginning to crack down on those abusing the service dog status. Anyone can go online and for a set fee obtain fraudulent paperwork and in most cases, a dog vest proclaiming 'I am a service dog.' The problem is people and other dogs are being injured by these untrained dogs. Nineteen states have laws to help curb the epidemic but more needs to be done. Do you know the laws in your area?”

Bentley: “We have seen our share of fakers and it makes us so angry. Service dogs are specifically trained to help people with disabilities. There is no substitute for an awesome service dog.
Thomas Panek can vouch for how wonderful it is to have a trained dog to help. He has been a runner his entire life so when he lost his vision in his 20’s he needed running buddies. He would tether to another runner and compete in the Boston and New York City Marathons. When the idea of a running service dog was brought up, he knew where to start. As the new CEO and president of Guiding Eyes for the Blind, he asked others if they would embrace the idea of a running guide dog. The response was overwhelming, so Thomas got busy training his Yellow Lab, Gus. Two dozen running dogs have graduated from their program since Gus and there is a waiting list for more. Way to be awesome, Mr. Panek!”
BFTB NETWoof News reports on top 10 dog names for 2017
Pierre: “It is almost November and that means an endless list of “most popular” things for 2017. Let’s start with the top 10 dog names of the year. Let me just say upfront that I cannot believe a manly name like Pierre is not on the list. That is a real shocker! I mean seriously, Milo is so 1980’s. Whatever, I don’t make the news, I just report it.”
BFTB NETWoof News with a painting of three cats
Bentley: “Wow! Sensitive much? Hee hee hee! We want to give a big shout out and show our love for National Cat Day that was Sunday the 29th. Our mom actually had three cats at one time. This painting is one that her mom painted of Opie, Amos, and Miss Gitty. We think cats are purr-fect. Cheers to all of our feline friends!”

Pierre: “It was a very big weekend for sports too. Our good friend Bailie from My GBGV Life achieved her NW2 Title with her mom at the National Associations of Canine Scent Work in Afton Alps. We are so proud of them and a bit jealous that Bailie got some prime rib to celebrate!”
Paisley: “Excuse me, Pierre but I wanted to give a shout-out to the incredible work of our buddies The Liver Killers at the DockDogs® World Championship too. The entire team rocked the dock but my sweetie, Hooch was named #1 GSP in the WORLD for the second year in a row. He is jumping 25’ and ranked 11 out of 29 in the Elite Division and is soooo dreamy! Just sayin’. Anyway, his sister Limoncello was 13 of 36 in the Warrior Iron Dog Division and Lager placed 7 out of 67 dogs in the Senior Division. That is a terrific showing and we are howling with German Shorthair Pointer Pride!”
Pierre: “We love sharing our reader's sports updates so don’t hesitate to let us know when you do something awesome. How about this week’s weather forecast, Paisley?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather with Paisley the Weather Lab
Paisley the Weather Lab: “Everyone should have some good weather this week. The showers will start later in the week for the Pacific Northwest and the Carolinas, but storms come early for parts of Texas and Louisiana. If you live in Florida or California, expect sunny mild days. It’ll be cooler in Colorado and the Mountain States could see some late-week snow! Isolated showers will visit the center of the U.S. while northern and northeastern areas should have scattered showers.
Like I said, most states will have fair skies at some point so let’s all make the best of it. If you are going trick or treating, be sure to check with your local weather for updates or warnings. I’ll be back tomorrow for a special Halloween post.”
Bentley: “On behalf of the BFTB News team, I want to say thank you for visiting us today. We hope that we put a smile on your face. It is going to be a fun week on the Bayou and you don’t want to miss our Halloween tale or a new line of dog care products that we will be reviewing for you. Remember to keep up with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Have a terrific day and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  3. We have not noticed any fake service dogs but we rarely see any around here. Friends of our work in training new ones which is interesting. Thanks for the sports mention. Bailie and Mom are super happy! That dock diving is amazing. Bailie tried it in the summer and wouldn't even go into the pool! Fun sport to watch for sure! Have a great week!

    1. We saw a fake service dog at Walmart one night. It was carrying on like a crazy pup the entire time. We don't think we'd do very well at dock diving but it is fun to watch.

  9. WE like original names too. The fake service dogs are doing a disservice to the ones that have gone through all the training to be a real service dog.

    1. I don't know why people can't accept the fact that their dogs can't go everywhere unless they are needed. It is just wrong. WTD!? I just realized that you didn't make the list either!

  14. Fake service dogs poses a serious issue in particular for veterans with service dogs. Too many have been asked to leave restaurants because of it. So shameful to treat a veteran this way! We hope the Rocky Mountains come through with some snow, we're dry as a bone again. Happy weekend.
