BFTB NETWoof News May 14, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News. We have put our nose to the ground to fetch you the latest in animal news. Let’s check with my co-anchor for our top story. Pierre?”
Dogs reporting the news
Pierre Westie: “City officials in western South Dakota are changing an ordinance that was passed three years ago. It inadvertently made owning dogs illegal within the city limits. The ordinance’s intent was to ban wild and exotic animals within the city. Domestic dogs are currently considered wild animals under their definition of a wild animal. It also includes coyotes, foxes, and wolves. Cats are excluded from the current ban. A second reading of the newly amended ordinance is scheduled for late May but the Lead Administrator assures everyone that is was an unintentional mistake and dogs are welcome in their city.

Bentley: “Here at BFTB News we love to salute our hero K-9s and this week we remember Hank, the chocolate Labrador Retriever. He served in Kuwait with our military as an Explosive Detection Dog. Upon his retirement, he was adopted by a Vietnam veteran where he spent 18 months being loved and enjoying life. Hank succumbed to lung cancer in March.
Saturday, he was honored with a military funeral including a rifle volley, flag-folding ceremony, taps and even the release of carrier pigeons. He will be the only K9 buried at Battleship Memorial Park near the Alabama War Dogs Memorial. Hank will represent all military working dogs past, present, and future. Thank you for your service and a job well done.”
This is NOT Pawfficer Donut. It is Amos the coolest cat in The Returns adventure.
Pierre: “The Troy, Michigan police force has a new member. Pawfficer Donut raised his right paw to become the official police cat. The ceremony was attended by the police officers including the chief. Pawfficer Donut will raise awareness about animal adoptions and rescues as well as being the face of the police social media accounts. The department issued a Twitter challenge to add a cat to the force if they reached 10,000 followers. We are happy they met their goal. Pawfficer Donut will live with two other cats at fellow officer’s house when he is not on duty.”

Bentley: “This last story really has us shaking our heads and apparently lit up social media last week. A Macon county official in Illinois who trains police dogs predicted that legalizing marijuana in the state would cause existing K-9s to be euthanized. The claim was quickly blasted as absurd and ridiculous by dog trainers, police forces where pot is legal and animal advocates.
One can be against the legalization of recreational marijuana but if you ask this reporter, to try to sway voters with outrageous claims of the mass euthanization of police K-9 dogs is what should be criminal.
Let’s see how our forecast is looking with our very own Weather Lab.”
BFTB NETWoof Weather with dog

Paisley the Weather Lab: “We have a real hodge-podge of weather this week. Let’s start over on the east coast where the Atlantic states’ temperatures will range from warm to mild. Some showers can be expected up in the New England area and it’s going to be muggy with storms down in Florida.
Here in the gulf coast region, we will have higher temps and could see a few storms rumble through. The southwest will be sunny and hot. Over on the west coast, California can be dreamin’ of a nice week with beautiful weather. Even the Pacific Northwest will be mostly sunny and pleasant. The Plains should look for some scattered showers, but it will be nice later in the week. There could be record heat in parts of the country.
This is the time of year that storms can pop up with a moment’s notice. Always check your local weather for updates or warnings. Have a sunshiny week no matter where you live.”
Bentley: “That’s a wrap for this week’s BFTB NETWoof News and Weather. We appreciate you stopping by and invite you back each day for more fun stories, reviews, and opinions.
Later this week we are going to review another tasty treat, share some tips on responsible pet parenting, and a toy that you are going to want for your best friend.
