BFTB NETWoof News June 11, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Welcome to BFTB NETWoof News and Weather. We have fetched some good news along with a bizarre scam alert. Let’s get to our top story. Pierre?”
BFTB NETWoof News with two dogs anchoring
Pierre Westie: “Today we are adding our voice to the Just One Day movement. The idea is to get kill shelters and rescues across the country to agree not to euthanize ANY adoptable animals for 24 hours on June 11, 2018. You can see if your local shelters are participating by checking the list of shelters who have taken the pledge. This day could potentially save the lives of 10,000 companion animals that are killed each day in the USA. We are better than that. To quote founder Mike Fry; For you, it is Just One Day. For them, it is the rest of their lives.”

Bentley: “Guess who gets to report the weird scam story? This one really has us shaking our heads. Two women in Canada fell victim to the same online scammer. They were excited to see Sphynx (hairless) kittens on sale for what is half their normal price. This should have been the first clue that something was wrong. The second warning flag should have been when the ‘breeder’ wanted to make the sale in a parking lot.
Both women said they noticed bumps and cuts on the kittens but didn’t give it much thought. That is until about two weeks later when the Sphynx kittens began growing hair! They quickly realized they had been duped. The kittens’ hair had been shaved and possibly a hair depilatory used. Fortunately, they love their new kitties and are happy to keep them. They are hoping to raise awareness that scammers are out there and obviously have no conscience.”
BFTB NETWoof News with dog reporters
Pierre: “People never cease to amaze me. This next story is right out of Mom’s book, The Returns 2 ~ Showstoppers. (Which has yours truly on the cover)
Fourteen dogs that were on their way to San Francisco’s Woofstock dog show were dognapped! The person responsible for transporting the dogs stopped to get a burger when someone stole his van full of dogs. Security cameras recorded the thief and thankfully, the van was found abandoned near Redding, California. They were all fine other than a little stressed. I’m sure being reunited with their humans helped tremendously.”

Bentley: “In celebration of National Best Friends Day, the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston joined with Best Friends Animal Society and opened their doors for the KHOU Adopt-a-Thon. KHOU is one of our local television stations and is awesome about promoting pet adoptions. We are #TexasProud to announce that 545 pets were adopted over the five-day period. Adoptions were free, and many Houstonians took advantage of that to welcome a new best friend.
Thank you to Best Friends Animal Society, KHOU, and the staff/volunteers of the Harris County Animal Shelter for finding forever homes for these amazing pets.”
BFTB NETWoof Sports reporting on Justify
Pierre: “Speaking of amazing, Justify went wire to wire in Saturday’s 150th running of the Belmont Stakes to become only the 13th horse to take home racing’s Triple Crown. He ran the mile and a half in two minutes 28.18 seconds! Justify became only the second Triple Crown winner to be undefeated. Seattle Slew was the first in 1977.
If you watched the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, you know Justify won the first two legs of horse racing’s most elusive title in horrible weather. That was not a problem for the Belmont. The skies were clear when he crossed the finish line a length and three-quarters ahead of the closest competitor. He is a magnificent animal and it was very exciting to watch as his story became history.
We also want to give big congratulations to jockey, Mike Smith. At age 52, he is the oldest jockey to win the Triple Crown. Justify is trained by the legendary Bob Baffert who also trained American Pharoah to the Triple Crown in 2015. It was a day to remember.
Let’s check in with Paisley for this week’s forecast.”
BFTB Weather Lab Paisley
Paisley the Weather Lab: “We are looking at more hot temperatures across the southern states. Of course, it’s those hot days that can trigger storms and that is what we are expecting to happen from Texas to Florida. The mid-section of the country will have some storms but shouldn’t see any super-hot days. It’ll be breezy in the Plains so y’all can get outside and enjoy yourselves. The California coast will be sunny but again hot temps as you head further south. If you are in the Pacific Northwest, you’ll have to deal with some showers. Those same showers will move across to the northeast. Our friends in the Northeast will have some nice weather. After such a long winter, they deserve it!
Hurricane season has started so always stay tuned to your local stations for any warnings. Until next week, take care of yourself and stay safe.”
Bentley: “That wraps it up for this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. We appreciate you stopping by and would love for you to share our report on your social media! You can use the buttons at the bottom of this post.
We are here Monday thru Friday with fun reviews, great stories, and pet parenting tips. Stop by each day so we can share a smile together.
Have a super day and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  6. What a crazy scam. The bad guys think of everything, don't they? I think it would be wise for people to never buy animals from anyone in a parking lot!

Ma was keepin' up on that van that was stolen, cause it was right here in the Bay Area! They had it all over the news, and our local news peeps were there when it was announced that they found the van and the doggies! There were cheers and applause and total relief! I thinks maybe they should use the drive-thru from now on...

  10. Great reporting guys! The dirty rotten scoundrels who dognapped precious pups and who scammed those poor cat ladies should be thrown in jail! I'm so relieved the dogs were reunited with their owners and I'm happy the cat ladies still love their new kitties, even though they're not Sphynx's.
