BFTB NETWoof News August 20, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of August 20, 2018. We hope you had a great weekend and are ready to start your day off with some animal news. Pierre, what’s our top story?”
BFTB NETWoof News
Pierre Westie: “The top story is serious, but we are hoping to relieve some fears. We have received several inquiries about the scary infection that affected two people in Wisconsin over the summer. One woman died, and a man had his arms and legs amputated. Both of those infections were traced to Capnocytophaga bacteria which is commonly found in dog saliva. The truth is more than 70% of dogs and almost 60% of cats have this bacteria. It’s considered normal oral flora.
That means a lot of pet parents are exposed to this bacterium every single day and nothing happens. It is very rare for a person to become infected with the Capnocytophaga bacteria. If you are living with a weakened immune system, you might consult your doctor on the likelihood of catching this from your puppy dog lick or kitty cat kisses. We will continue to kiss our humans here on the Bayou.”

Bentley: “It is how I wake Mom up every morning. She would be so sad if I stopped.
I love this story and if it were a sport, I’d be training right now. Soldan’s Pet Supplies store in Lansing, Michigan held its third annual Fro-Yo eating contest for dogs. Dogs were judged in three separate categories according to weight. The winners were determined by how fast they could woof down their bowl of frozen yogurt. The event raised money for mid-Michigan pet rescue groups. This sounds like a tasty way to help some deserving groups!”

Pierre: “Have you ever watched your pet sleep and wondered what they are dreaming about? You have probably heard someone say their puppy is chasing squirrels or their cat is after a mouse when they twitch or make noise while they are sleeping. The truth is, that is probably exactly what they are dreaming. Research shows that both cats and dogs dream very similar to humans. That means they dream about the things they experience during their waking hours.
I always hate when someone wakes me up right before the good part of a dream, don’t you?”

Bentley: “I try not to lose my dream if I wake up so I can go back to finish it.
You know that scientist are always discovering new creatures that have been around but very good at avoiding detection. That is the case of the new seahorse recently found off the coast of southeastern Japan. It is a pygmy seahorse and only reaches the size of a grain of rice! The Japan Pig seahorse has been spotted by scuba divers for several years but has now been officially documented. The colorful Pig seahorse prefers the shallow waters but don’t worry about them. They are much too small for most people to ever see them. Here is a video so you can see for yourself.”
BFTB NETWoof News Sports segment
Pierre: “We want to give a shout-out to two of our favorite sports superstars!
Bailie from My GBGV Life earned her NW(nose work) 3 Interior Title AND her RATO Barn Hunt Open Title over the weekend! What an incredible feat!
Our friend Mabel from Idaho Pug Ranch earned her first leg in Preferred Novice Obedience and qualified for Preferred Novice. She also received a rosette for High Scoring Dog in Preferred Classes at the USRVDTC Obedience Rally this weekend.
We are so proud of y’all. Let’s see if our forecast is a winner with Paisley the Weather Lab.”
BFTB NETWoof Weather
Paisley the Weather Lab: Well, the weather is looking nice for most of the United States this week. I know that is a welcome relief to some of you who have been inundated with rain. The northeast will have some more rain midweek while Virginia and the Carolinas can expect showers early. Floridians will have muggy weather that can bring some scattered storms.
I have one word for all of us in the south. HOT! Please make sure your pets have plenty of fresh water and shade. Keep yourselves hydrated and if you work outdoors, take plenty of breaks. (We won’t tell the boss)
The southwest will have more monsoonal storms. The west coast will continue to be hot and hazy due to the wildfires. We continue to send our thoughts and prayers to those on the front lines battling these blazes.
The Pacific Northwest will be happy to hear that they are in for sunshine. Actually, most of the northern states can expect some beautiful summer days. Those of you in the center of the country will have a quiet week with a few clouds.
Overall, it is a positive outlook and if it is rainy in your area, I know we can count on your positive outlook! Always stay tuned to your local weather station in case of severe weather.”
Bentley: “We appreciate you taking the time to visit us and hope our news put a smile on your face. The rest of the week will include a new toy review along with lots more fun so be sure to stop by! Have a wonderful day and be sure to grab yourself some happy!”

    Wagnificent!
Japan Pig Seahorses sound vey much like something the SAM was sharing with huMom yesterday. He said years ago that he had purchased Sea Monkeys & his description sounds very similar!

  4. Wowzers, you guys are on top of the news mentioning Bailie's weekend! Thank you, and huggles from her! Good for Mabel on obedience. We hounds don't believe in being obedient, so we will never earn any titles there. Have a great week and stay cool.
