BFTB NETWoof News October 1, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the first week of October 2018. We have some really sweet stories for you to enjoy. Just consider us the pumpkin spice of news. What’s our top story, Pierre?”

Pierre Westie: “Adorable is the best way to describe it. A Golden Retriever accidentally got out of its house and couldn’t get back inside. What is the logical thing to do? This little cutie decided to go try the video doorbell to draw attention to his plight. You can watch the video here and I think you’ll agree, he is one clever pup.
I don’t think we can reach our doorbell so if we ever get out, you’ll have to give me a boost.”

Bentley: “You can count on me, but you can’t use me as a ‘step-brother’ because you’d break my back! Hee hee!
You know we love cats here at BFTB and I think this new study from Frontier in Ecology and Evolution shows how smart our feline friends are including the feral ones.
The study took five months as researchers observed a rat colony in a Brooklyn waste facility. Over the course of 79 days, the local cats only caught three of the approximately 150 rats and only killed two of those! The study concluded that cats prefer to opt for smaller prey than the ginormous New York rats that can weigh ten times the average mouse. To that, we say, Duh! Cats aren’t crazy!”

Pierre: “We usually celebrate National Walk Your Dog month in January, but it is usually too cold and blustery to do much walking. That is why we were so hyped to see that this is National Walk Your Dog Week! It still isn’t exactly cool here in Texas, but it is much better than 99°F. We encourage you to get outdoors with your dogs and let them strut their stuff. Walking is a terrific way to bond and get some much-needed exercise. We have some fun pros and cons of dog walking you will enjoy. This week we are going to be trying out our newest collars and leashes from Illumiseen. Since it is getting dark earlier, they will be perfect for an evening jaunt around the park. I’ll tell you more about this later.”

Bentley: “Today is National Black Dog Day and we want to encourage the adoption of black dogs. For some reason, they are routinely overlooked at rescues and shelters. I’m not sure why because we think black dogs are beautiful. Mom had a German Shepherd that was mostly black and he was gorgeous! He was also a retired K-9 and all-around awesome fellow. Have you ever had a black dog or cat?    Let’s share some pics of our black dogs on social media and encourage others to find out that color is only fur deep. All dogs are awesome!
Speaking of awesome, how is our favorite Weather Lab?”
Paisley the Weather Lab: “Aww, thanks, Bentley. I wish the weather was going to be awesome, but it is going to be wet again. A quick look at the map will show you that most everyone has a chance of storms or showers. The exception being our northern friends and here in Texas, where it is supposed to be nice with a slight chance of showers. It’s the changing of the seasons and we usually experience rain before we get into the cooler weather. I know most of us are looking forward to the first crisp fall day in our area.
As always, be sure to listen to your local weather authorities for updates and warnings. Remember the famous quote by Vivian Greene; ‘Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain.’ Of course, I would not encourage you to go dance in a thunder/lightning storm but just a shower? Dance until your heart’s content.”
Bentley: “That’s a wrap for this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. Thank you for making us a part of your day. Visit us each day this week for some new fantastic toys, collars/leashes, and so much more! We wanted to remind everyone that we have a NEW CODE for Dr. Harvey's 10% discount: BFTB1018.
Take care and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  5. Our first two dogs were black and our first cat. Since I've been on my own I've had a dog that was mostly black and at least 6 black cats (including the 2 I have now), plus several black and white tuxies. Black cats and dogs rock!

  6. Well, cats may not kill the rats, but do they drive them away? Just wondering...
We have two black cats inside, and one of our friendly ferals is a sleek black kitty, named Sweetie. We will always have a black cat...and maybe a dog, someday!

  9. Great news reporting from the Bayou!!! We are hoping to get lots of walks in this month too, although Mom says we are in for some big winds midweek. That won't stop us even if it slows her down.

Did you see the story about the Golden Retriever and the koala bear? https://www.cbsnews.com/news/australia-lost-baby-koala-cuddles-with-golden-retriever-to-stay-warm/

    Just too cute.

  11. Great report! It's cold and rainy here today, so I doubt I'm going for a walk. But I've done lots of running in the back yard instead and coming in with soaked feet. One of our angels, Miss Ginger, had beautiful black furs with tan points. She was very beautiful! (Is there a doggies with nose freckles day?)

  12. We don't understand the whole black dog/cat stigma either. Of course, you know we have a black cat. We also had a black Lab mix named Maggie and she was one of our best dogs ever. I'd love to have another black dog; and she was a big part of why we adopted our black & white Luke. ♥
We are getting tired of rainy/dreary weather here. While we didn't dance, we still got out and had a nice walk in the rain today! :)

  16. I'm a black Great Dane, and proud of it. Some of my black is coming off lately, though, and I can't figure out where it's going. I just keep waking up with more black missing. It's not in my bed, either. I checked.
    That is one SMART retriever!
