Stress Busters

The first Wednesday in November is National Stress Awareness Day. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, there is no way to avoid stress in life. Let’s face it, adulting can be very hard.
It has been proven that having a dog or cat can be a great stress buster. Being a pet parent does come with stressful situations but for the most part, our furbabies make life better.
How Pets Help Reduce Stress
• Petting a dog or cat can relieve stress by lowering your blood pressure. It helps your body release a relaxation hormone and reduces the levels of a stress hormone.
• Pets help us get more exercise. After all, they can’t walk themselves and somebody has to throw the ball for them.
• Having a pet reduces the stress of loneliness. Living with a dog or cat ensures you have someone to come home to that loves you unconditionally. You’re never alone when you have a pet…especially in the bathroom!
• Pets help you to stay in the present. Stress often occurs when you are worried about an upcoming event or dwelling on the past. Pets live in the moment and help us do the same.
• Our dogs and cats provide a lifetime of laughs! We all know that laughter is the very best medicine.

On a serious note, stress can be a killer. Today is set aside for us to identify and try to reduce some of the things causing stress in our daily lives. Annual physical check-ups are important as we get older. As much as we love and take care of our pets, we must love and take care of ourselves as well.

  4. Stress is a bad thing. I've got an overload right now, but it will dissipate with time. The pups don't have much stress, thankfully.

  5. We are having one of those weeks here; I don't know what I'd do without Luke and Sam to help me through the tough times. ♥ Thanks for the reminder to take care of ourselves; we women especially forget to do that sometimes, I think, it's so much our instinct to take care of others first.

  7. Mom agrees with all you have to say about stress and pets. We don't think she would ever live very happily without at least one dog with her. And we say the more the better:)

  11. It is an important reminder of the dangers of stress. One of the agencies I work with has identified it as a problem and has assigned a staff member as a resource to help others.

Sometimes in my life the dogs may not be as helpful with stress as they cause some of it😜

  14. Mom thinks that If more humans had pets the world of humans would be healthier. She also thinks the number of illnesses and visits to the doctor would be reduced. I purr-sonally think that the world would be better off and less stressful if pussycats took over. Purr purr purr.
