As anyone who lives with a dog knows, there are drawbacks to every breed. When it comes to a Basset Hound, although Bentley is perfect to me, he gets the dreaded “Hound Dog” smell. I usually give him a bath once a week and he gets a daily brushing. Since the weather has gotten cold, I have cut back on his baths. I don’t want his skin to be dried out and itchy. This left me in desperate need to find a product to eliminate the odor but keep his skin from being irritated. I wasn’t impressed with the traditional wipes meant for humans. Not only were they not designed for pets but also the smell was not that appealing. Bentley is unusual from other dogs that I loved because he hates to be dirty. I think it’s because his sense of smell is so acute that when he gets “gamey” it bothers his nose. I know it does mine! Enter John Paul Pet wipes to save the day.
I was surprised at how much dirt, hair, and dander came off with just a single wipe. Of course, his long ears are always dragging the ground so they need special care. The wipes worked like magic on them, leaving his ears clean and fresh. It only took two wipes to clean him from head to tail. That is impressive, because although he is short in stature, he is a big fellow.
John Paul Pet Products, like the ones for humans, are never tested on pets. Their website says they test on humans first. Isn’t that a nice change? The wipes contain water, aloe leaf juice, and lanolin along with some preservatives. The aloe juice contains over 200 nutritional substances including 20 minerals, 20 amino acids, and 12 vitamins. It can help protect against UV rays and soothe the skin. Bentley has underarms like a human so this is important to me. The benefit of lanolin to soften and smooth skin is an ingredient in most lotions. I knew it would be great for his soft belly skin and paws. His entire body was clean and fresh in a few minutes.
I am very pleased to recommend the JP Pet Wipes to all of my dog loving friends. I am anxious to try the other products offered in their pet line. The company has shampoo and conditioners for dogs and cats available in oatmeal and tea tree formulas. For puppies and kittens, there’s a tearless formula. They offer a dry foam shampoo that I’d love to try. In addition to the Body & Paw wipes I received, there is one specifically designed
for eyes and ears. I have mentioned before how much Bentley loves to have his teeth brushed. Pierre does not enjoy the routine so I am excited to see a JP Tooth & Gum wipe. Most of the items cost around $9.00 although they do have Grooming Systems Prepacked for a slightly higher cost. That is a reasonable price for such quality. You can buy these great grooming aids at pet stores and some veterinarian offices.
In addition to producing a wonderful product, the company has created “Behind the Paw.” It brings together people, pets, their passion, and several programs to benefit pets. One of these is the “One Picture Saves a Life” which teaches shelters how to groom and photograph the adoptable animals giving them a better chance to find a home. I will have more on this amazing group in a Tuesday’s Tails blog post. They also work with the Humane Society, CAPS, the Brown Dog Society, and the Hero Dog Awards as well as others.
Even though I wasn’t sure what I’d get when I ordered my Pet Wipes for my PetBox, I could not be happier. If you are looking for quality grooming aids for your furry family member, you can’t go wrong with John Paul Pet Products.
I did not receive any compensation or products in exchange for this review. It is strictly my personal opinion. I am very thankful for discovering the “other” side of John Paul of Paul Mitchell hair care fame.
I give Five Stars to JP Pet Body & Paw Wipes and Bentley gives them two Paws Up and lick of approval!
Hi MK! Thanks for linking up to Thoughtless Thursday! My sapiens love the Paul Mitchell stuff too! Looks like it works well for your own hair. I will definitely have to look into JP wipes. Currently we are using pampers baby wipes in this household.
ReplyDeleteRuckus, thanks for hosting this hop! I hope it catches on because it is a great idea. Yes, I think that you'll love the JP Wipes. Especially since they are designed for pets so there is no worry about skin irritations.
DeleteInteresting as I love to be a dirty mess and I have a scent hound nose and I am a girl...I will have to mull that over for a bit. I don't know about the wipes as my sisters and I have so much fur, Bentley doesn't have fur like us. Interesting idea, though.
ReplyDeleteHi Emma, It's true that Bentley doesn't like to get be dirty. He also LOVES to have his teeth brushed. His fur is so much shorter than yours and he sheds like crazy! The wipes work great for him. : )
DeleteWow! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was a really good review!
They sound like a great product! And actually, a husky has little to no odor most times and they tend to have sensitive skin, so you cannot bath them all the time, so I think these wipes would be perfect for when they get some Mudd in their fur etc....thanks for sharing!
And thanks for linking up to!
((Husky hugz frum da pack))
Thanks Jenna! It is great that the Husky doesn't have the "doggie odor" because with three of them, you'd have your hands full! I wiped Bentley down and used them on Pierre's (Westie) face, belly and paws. His fur is like Velcro and he will come inside with tiny pieces of leaves stuck all over him. I brush him and then use a wipe to remove the dirt. : )
DeleteI think I received those via some source that I don't remember and I loved them as well
ReplyDeleteYes, they are awesome and they smell so much better than Eau De Dog! LOL!!
DeleteI'll definitely have to try them out. My girls hate being dirty but Chanel can't be bathed to often because of her sensitive skin that gets dry and flakey. Great review
ReplyDeleteThese would work great! They even have an oatmeal wipe if she gets itchy. They remove dirt and dander so Chanel would love them. Thanks for hopping by today!
DeleteSounds like you have found the perfect solution for Bentley. Have a great Thursday!
ReplyDeleteYes and both of our noses are happy!
DeleteThis sounds like a great product! Thank Bentley for trying it out for us all ...
ReplyDeleteIt really is great to remove any trace of doggie smell! Have a great Thursday!
