Last week I wrote
a review of John Paul Pet Wipes. Before I
wrote the post, I read about the company.
Not only do they have great products, they also support some wonderful
animal causes. One that has interested
me since I started featuring adoptable pets is “One Picture Saves a Life.” I’m not sure where I first saw this group but
they definitely stuck in my mind.
“One Picture Saves
a Life” is an organization devoted to helping animals improve their chances of
finding a family. The site has several
instructional videos that every shelter across the country should make a
must-see for their photographer. Most
shelters are hard pressed for their volunteers, so being a great photographer
is not a requirement.
As pet owners, we
know how difficult it is to get a fabulous shot of our own dogs. They look away, come to smell the camera, and
become rambunctious 2-year-old children.
Imagine how hard it would be to take a happy photo of a scared pet in
its new environment. A quick snapshot is
one of the first procedures an adoptable dog or cat goes through upon their
arrival at the shelter. That is where “One
Picture Saves a Life” comes in to help. http://www.onepicturesaves.com/
We have all seen “before”
and “after” photos promoting weight loss, wrinkle-crème, and
other
products. The “after” pictures are the
ones that sell the product. The same
holds
true for pets. Most adoptable pet
pictures range from a bad prison mug shot to a good driver’s license shot. Sadly, this means there are some beautiful
pets available that are stuck with bad headshots!

work. This photo of Gotti is from her website. That's a great way to draw attention to his plight!
You can see more of these before & after photos at http://www.onepicturesaves.com/gallery/
The learning videos
show how to set up your camera, safety/location/lighting, how to photograph
dogs, how to photograph cats, how to photo pets the complete version, taking
better in-take photos, and post-production with Photoshop elements. Each of these videos contains a wealth of
useful information. It is
helpful for
shelter pets or learning how to take better photos of your pet. Award-winning photographer Seth Casteel, the
author of the N.Y. Times bestsellers “Underwater Dogs” photo series books,
leads the videos. http://www.onepicturesaves.com/learning-videos/

John Paul Pets offers
a full product display with special pricing for shelters and rescues. This allows shelters to retail the products
to their adopters and raise much needed money to continue their important work.
“One Picture Saves
a Life” works with the Petfinder Foundation, The Animal Rescue site, and
GreaterGood.org. The organization receives
sponsorship from Halo Pets and FreeKibble.com.
The site has a shop where you can purchase an autographed book from
Seth, John Paul Pet products, photo gear, and this cool tee shirt.
The shirt reads on the front: “To my dog, This I promise you: I will love you,
unconditionally; for who you are, not who I’d like you to be. I will protect you and keep you safe. Always.” The back reads: “I will teach you with
kindness and patience.”
I want thank “One Picture Saves a Life” for their amazing work. I hope that this information helps make it
easier to capture that perfect picture of deserving shelter pets.
I also want to thank Dogs N Pawz for hosting Tuesday’s Tails Blog
Hop. Before you hop over to these other
wonderful blogs, please check out the PetSavers Adoptable Pets tab at the top
of my page. These adorable dogs are STILL
available at PetSavers http://www.petsaversshreveport.org/index.php/
Remember, a dog’s
unconditional love is the same whether you receive it from a rescue or a $4,000
purebred with a pedigree.
Great post. I do believe a good photo will help a dog get a home much faster. Kudos to these folks.
