We recently were surprised to receive a free bag of Spring NaturalsGrain Free Turkey Dinner dog food. As
usual, the boys were very excited to see the delivery truck stop in front of
the house. Since this was an unexpected
delivery, I have to admit to being pretty excited myself.
I had been considering trying a grain free diet for Bentley and
Pierre so this was a great way to try a new type of food. Both of them are thrilled to be able to give
their honest opinion on this tasty new food.
Boys, the blog is all yours today.
Bentley: “Thanks Mom. Just like she said, we were all thrilled to
try a different type of food. The Spring Naturals blend that we received was turkey with chickpeas, carrots, and
berries. I didn’t know what a chickpeas
was, but I do love my carrots and berries.
I asked Mom why the turkey was not mixed with dressing and gravy. She said dressing and gravy wasn’t good for
dogs.” *Sigh*
Pierre: “I
explained to Bentley that a chickpea is a garbanzo beans or a legume. They are very tasty and full of protein. Of course, there are a lot of other tasty
ingredients in the bite-sized food.
Since I like to know what I am eating, a quick check of the label told
me all that I needed to know. The first
ingredients are turkey, then chickpeas, peas, and dried eggs. They also add sun-cured alfalfa, flaxseed,
sweet potatoes, and spinach. As you can
see, it is chocked full of nutritious veggies.
Bentley: “That’s all true Pierre. They also add lots of yummy fruit. I could taste blueberries, cranberries, apricots,
carrots and dandelion greens. At least I
got my cranberries with my turkey. That
is sort of like a Thanksgiving dinner. I
know that I was giving thanks for this food.”
Pierre: “I hate to
bring this up, but you are pretty much thankful for all food. I tend to be a bit more finicky than you are. I wanted to make certain that we were eating
healthy, so I checked Spring Natural Grain Free Turkey Dinner out on SlimDoggy’s Food Rating widget. It was
ranked 8.5 out of 10 and received a high rating with a smiley dog face. So, what is not in this food you ask?”
Bentley: “No, I didn’t ask, because I know. *snicker* It does not have any turkey meal, wheat,
gluten, corn, soy, or by-products. I am
not sure what by-products are, but they sound yucky. There are also not any artificial preservatives,
flavors, or colors. It sounds like the
people at Spring Naturals are very careful about what they use to make their
dog food. That is really important to my
mom and dad.”
Pierre: “Yeah,
ever since we began Barking from the Bayou, Gramma has gotten very picky about
what we eat. She also measures our food
out as if she is some sort of chemist.
If she starts putting on a lab coat and goggles, I can’t say that I’ll
be surprised. I only got one cup twice a
day. You wolfed down one and three-fourths
cups twice a day.”
Bentley: “That is because I
am a larger dog than you are, Pierre. It
takes more food to keep my body in
tiptop shape. Here, feel my muscles. Pretty daunting, isn’t it. This impressive physique didn’t just
happen. I’m a combination of great food,
exercise, and lots of belly rubs. I like
to call it my Basset trifecta. At Spring
Naturals, they believe that all dogs and cats deserve the nutritious and balanced
foods and treats available. I believe
they are right.”
Pierre: “I am not
so sure about cats. That is just,
because I don’t really like cats too much.
Still, I guess they do deserve to eat great food. Cats cannot live by mice alone. So, what did you think of this four pound bag
of food that we received? I thought it
was okay. I tended to eat it a few
pieces at a time. It is not my favorite
taste, but it was still good.”
Bentley: “Well, you are
entitled to your opinion even if it is wrong.
I loved this food. You should
have spoken up so I could have eaten the entire bag by myself. Even when it was gone, I still stuck my head
in the bag to get the leftover pieces. Mmmm,
I didn’t want it to end.”
Me: “Okay boys,
have y’all covered all the bases on this review? Let’s see; you’ve said what terrific
ingredients are blended, how much you each ate each day, Slim Doggy’s ranking,
and how you each like it. Good job. Well, except for the few sarcastic comments
that y’all always seem to add. Do you
have your paw rating ready? One means
yuck and five is superb.
Bentley: Yes ma’am, we are
ready but don’t agree on the amount of paws.
Can we each rate it?”
Me: “Sure, we want
to give our readers your true feelings about the products that we review. What are you ratings?
Pierre: “That’s
true Gramma. I can only give this dog
food a four paws rating. Not because it
isn’t super good for me, I just wasn’t crazy about this particular blend.”
Bentley: “Well, we just have
to agree to disagree. I loved my Spring
Natural Grain Free Turkey Dinner. I have
complete confidence in giving it my five paws.
Thanks so much Spring Naturals!!”

I love turkey meat, but the vegetables not so much. Vaks on the other hand loves vegetables so he can eat the vegetables and I can take the turkey. That's a fair deal.... I think. Sniff from Laika and Vaks.
ReplyDeleteTurkey sounds yummy, I'm not a big veggie fan, though. I also am not a real grain free fan, so I would probably pick at it like Pierre. You sound more like an eat everything guy. My sisters are like that too. Enjoy the rest of the food. <3 Emma
