The care you give them makes all the difference for lifelong health & happiness. |
Every
pet parent needs to have a wonderful trustworthy veterinarian and keep routine
visits. Along with proper vet care, the
right food for your dog is crucial. Take
the time do your homework, ask your vet, and make a sure that the food your
serve is the proper formula for your best friend’s size, age, and dietary
needs. Hill’s Science Diet offers a wide
variety of recipes and is available from vet clinics and specialty pet stores.
As
vital as the care and feeding of our pets is, there is another element in
making their lives complete. That is all
of the “little extras” we do to make them healthy and happy pets. I’m not referring to buying exclusive spa
treatments or massages, although those are certainly wonderful. I’m talking about the loving touches, the
games of chase, the warm towel wrapping them after a bath. These gestures don’t cost anything, but are
priceless in bonding with our dogs.

♥ Happy, healthy, and loved ♥ |
At our home, it is belly
rubs and hugs that make Bentley smile.
He is also a huge fan of grooming.
You may not envision a Basset Hound enjoying primping, but he loves
taking a nice bath, getting his teeth brushed, having all of his loose hair brushed
out, and his ears wiped clean. It is not
unusual for him to go sound asleep during his blow-drying/ brushing session. We consider it our homemade spa time. This togetherness gives me a chance to check
for any bumps, bites, or changes on his body.
When brushing a dog’s teeth, it is important to get the back teeth where
tartar can hide.

"If I bite here, my fox squeaks." |
There
is not much that makes Bentley happier than treats. If we listened to
him on the treat front, he
would get one every few minutes. For
this reason, we limit them to no more than 10% of his total daily caloric
intake. I keep an eye out for the amount
of sodium he ingests. I make sure that
any treats we give don’t undermine the purpose of his dietary restrictions. He really likes the Hill’s Baked Light Biscuits. I enjoy giving him those for a
wake-up or nighttime treat. Smaller
treats such as Hill’s Grain-Free Turkey & Cranberry Treats are the perfect
size for training. Bentley is working on
turning in a circle and staying in a down position. At six-years old, he is still happy to learn
new tricks. A quality dog treat can
reinforce good behavior and is a bite-sized way to say “I love you.”
These are a favorite at our home. |
It
is all of these little extras that make sharing our lives with dogs or cats so
special. A stylish collar and leash set,
a seasonal bandanna, or even clothes can be such fun if your pet enjoys being a
fashionista. There are so many choices
to accessorize; the sky is the limit to pampering and clothing options. The most important thing is that you and your
pet are having fun together.
To
celebrate these little extras, Hill’s is giving away bundles of goodies every
pet parent can enjoy sharing with their dog or cat. The dog bundle includes: a stainless steel dog bowl; a bag of Hill’s Science Diet Dental Chews; a bag of Hill’s Science Diet dog treats, and a Healthier Pets, Happier Lives tote bag. The little extras bundle for cats includes: a

DeleteWe are surprised to hear that Bentley actually enjoys primping! We never would have guessed that...as a basset hound!! We love those Cranberry Treats. Great Review!! xo Chloe and LadyBug
ReplyDeleteHe is quite the gentleman when it comes to being clean. On the opposite end of the spectrum, fluffy little Pierre HATES to bath. BOL!
DeleteJust a quick heads up that the twitter link for Hill's isn't working...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the heads up. It is corrected and works now. Good luck. ♥
Deletethat's the perfect recipe for a happy dog. I dislike it when they clean my ears, butt that's important for pups with floppy ears.... has your mom a special trick when she cleans your ears? it's sometimes not easy to get the "carrots and beans" out of my ears :o)
ReplyDeleteHey Easy, Yes the carrots, beans , and monkeys are always hard to clear out of my ears. Mom has always cleaned my ears since I was a puppy, so I decided to just enjoy it. ☺
DeleteNeither of my boys are into cuddles (apart from with their dad) he had special time with them both when he comes home from work and they love that. Reilly gets his daily massage and stretches for his arthiritis and also his cold laser therapy which he really loves. Denny's favorite thing of all is to rubbed with a towel...wet or dry he doesn't care so long as her gets his rubbing
ReplyDeletePierre enjoys being toweled too. Bentley would love a daily massage. ☺
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, and good luck to everyone who enters the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Wow what a great prize! We have entered the giveaway, it sounds like a fabulous one. Thanks for the great review post!
ReplyDeleteWe couldn't possibly name all the "little extras" our pawrents give us every day because there are too many. We are two lucky pups.
ReplyDeleteBentley, I'm in shock that you enjoy getting bathed and groomed. I run and hide every time I think it might happen. I'm not a fan of it at all. I do enjoy those Hills treats, though ;) No matter what, love is the most important thing of all!
ReplyDeleteHey I have that exact fox! Well, maybe not exact . . . mine might be missing parts.
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Oh, I can just picture Bentley enjoying his spa time! Our golden retriever Moses did as well....he would just fall right asleep when being brushed. Sheba is getting a bit more that way now as she's a little older, she used to never want to sit still for a brushing. I just have to catch her at the right time now.
ReplyDeleteJan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
I wish Shiner liked her baths and other grooming stuff as much as it sounds like you do Bentley! The only things she enjoys is a good brushing.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, I love the spooning Nellie and Glory will do with me as the little extras.
