Bentley: “Welcome to this week’s BFTB Channel #7 NETWoof News. I’m Bentley And along with my co-anchor Pierre, we sniff out the important canine/cat news you need to know. Our top story tonight concerns the month of November. It is National Adopt a Senior Dog Month. That is an entire month to list the benefits of adopting an older dog. We will be listing one reason each day for the rest of the month. Pierre, you are considered an adult like me.”
Pierre:
“I believe age is just a number.
At three, I still have the vigor and joy of a puppy. It is one of the things that makes me so dang
cute. Ahem, what I am trying to get
across is the age brackets for dogs are different for different breeds. I think just as human lifespans have been
extended, dog’s lifespans have increased over the past decade. Humans consider us more like a member of the
family. The vet care we receive nowadays
is cutting-edge. As a medium-sized dog,
you’ll be considered a senior on your Happy Birthday this December.”
Bentley: “Well, this newshound will
never admit to being a senior at seven-years-old. I hope I don’t get an AARF card on my birthday. That’d be a bummer. This is our Reason #27 for adopting a senior
dog; “senior” does not mean a dog is about to die. Many dogs live 15+ years, so a 7 year-old dog
could very well have another 7 or 8 years of love and fun to bring someone.”
Pierre:
“That is an excellent reason.
One way to ensure a longer life is to make certain that we don’t eat
things that will make is sick and/or kill us dead. This time of year placing a pumpkin full of
prized Halloween candy can mean a very sick pup. Turkey bones are another big no-no. We recommend a great dog flavored Thanksgiving
dinner. The average veterinarian bill to
remove foreign objects from the belly of a dog is $1,394.00. That’s a big bite on your human’s wallet if
they don’t have pet insurance. You can
find a helpful chart of edible and inedible items on PetPlan’s Pet Poison Guide. We know too well what can happen
when a friend eats something as innocent looking as a mushroom. *We love you Greta.”
Bentley: “Speaking of outrageous prices,
you remember that King Charles Spaniel named Bentley? He lived with the nurse that became the first
victim of Ebola caught here in the U.S.A. Anyway, I am happy to report that Bentley and
his human had an emotional reunion on Saturday.
The shocking price tag since Bentley went into quarantine is in the tens
of thousands! OMD! The dog was kept in a vacant residence where
officers used to live at a decommissioned naval air base for 21 days. Veterinarians in full personal protective gear checked on him daily. Granted, that
protective gear can be expensive, but tens of thousands of dollars? Bentley should have been getting daily
massages, aromatherapy, a personal chef, and a gold toilet to drink distilled
water. Sheesh!”
Pierre:
“This story is one that makes me shake my head. A family in New York about 20 miles north of
Albany has been charged with animal cruelty.
Rescuers spent two days in protect gear to remove 98 cats and expect to
spend two more days removing 50 remaining hidden behind the walls. The cats range from newborn to six years
old. You would think people would learn
their lesson and get court ordered help for hoarding,”
Bentley: “Obviously, this is not the
case with these humans. It is the fourth
time that authorities have been to the house on charges of maltreating
cats. In just two and a half years,
nearly 400 cats have been removed from the family. That is a cat-astrophy! Can something be done to prevent them from
acquiring any more pets?”
Pierre:
“I’d like to think so, for the sake of the cats. All five people living in the house are
subject to charges. Let’s move to what
is happening in the world of politics.
As most everyone knows, Tuesday is Election Day. That means it is time to elect a new mayor
for Blogville. We have covered the
campaign and it now comes down to casting your vote for either Dory or Murphy & Stanley (co-mayors). It will be a
tight race and so every bloggers vote is important. Visit Sarge Speaks to cast your super-secret
ballot. BFTB NETWoof News congratulates the candidates for running a nice, friendly
race. Humans could learn so much from
this campaign.
Bentley: “We will give the results
as soon as Mayoress Madi announces the winner(s). I heard some exciting news on the sports
front. Our dock-diving friend, Cello the
German Short-Haired Pointer has made a big splash at Delmarva Dock Dogs “Jumping
into Jersey” at the Ocean County Gunning and Decoy Festival in Tuckerton, N.J.”
Pierre:
“She turned in some impressive dives and took home several “Big
Air” medals. Then, she placed 3rd
in the Elite Finals Division. That means
Cello dove between 23’ to 24’1”. That is
incredible! Congratulations Cello!”
Bentley: On the weather front, there
will be a weather front that brings cold air even down here in bayou
country. Our friends along the southwest
Mexican coast and the southern Baja Peninsula, including Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto
Vallarta should keep an eye on Hurricane Vance.
This storm is producing powerful winds that are expected to cause swells
that will churn up high surf and rip currents at Mexico’s Pacific beaches. Everyone else will experience spots of rain,
snow, and freezing temps.”
Pierre:
“I’ll be bringing out my winter wear if it gets in the 30’s. We need our friends to check their heaters
and furnaces before firing those babies up for the first time this year. I hope they stay warm.
Bentley: “That brings you up-to date
on the news we have tracked. Remember,
if you hear or see a news story that we need to trail, just drop us an email
through our contact tab. Oh, one more
bit of news from the bayou. Our recent
post on Elvis & Me was shared on our local Shreveport Downtown Development Authority Facebook page. It’d be great
if you stopped by to like and share it. Also,
don’t forget to enter for a chance to win The Honest Kitchen Winter Warmers
kit. Just click here to be transported

partner Pierre and myself, have an amazing week and be sure to grab yourself
some happy.”

That's great news about Bentley! Thanks so much for featuring Cello's dock diving accomplishments!
ReplyDeleteMom and I both stopped by and liked that FB post for you ;) Senior dogs are wonderful, as I live with one, but they are not a good fit for our family because we are far to active. As we age, Mom changes things up for us, but she enjoys high energy dogs, so the older quiet mellow dogs are tough. We wouldn't trade Katie for a million bucks and we will all be seniors one day, but we wouldn't adopt one. They are a good fit for most families, though as most aren't as high energy as my Mom is.
ReplyDeleteLoved the news about the other Bentley!

ReplyDeleteYou knocked it out of the park again fellas! Great reminder about Adopt a Senior Dog month. I think the name "Senior" gives a negative connotation. PAWhaps we should say "seasoned" or "mature" Loved the news. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThank you for these great reports! We love them!
ReplyDeleteI agree, age is just a number and hate it when mom calls me a senior...
ReplyDeleteWow, great news cast! I totally agree that some of us are just hitting our bestest years as we mature. Now, I can't imagine hoarding cats like that....milkbones or stuffies yes, but cats no. BOL I think we're all excited about the big election and thanks for helping get the bark out about that. :)

Hi Y'all!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing about senior dogs...we can learn and do love to learn...new tricks!
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Senior dogs ROCK! Plain & Simple. I cannot believe that poor woman's dog racked up tens of thousands of $$ in bills; I'm thinking insurance won't pick up that tab! Like most hoarders, those folks must need emotional help. You cannot keep that many animals & NOT neglect them. Some states have regulations to prevent people from hoarding again, but NY must not be one of them. More than punishment, maybe they need counseling, something's not right w/ those folks. Weird. Thanks for the news updates!

Our girls are still so active at 10 years old, it's hard to think of them as seniors! Cricket especially acts just like a puppy sometimes. Age is definitely just a number. I think it's exciting that dogs can often live to 15+ years old now!
ReplyDeleteJan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
urgh, I shake my head at cat hoarder stories, why why must they do that. The cats don't deserve that at all.
