♥ Miss Gitty ♥ |
Over
the years, I have wondered if that little humane society in the middle of nowhere
was still in existence. It was sad to
discover it had closed long ago. I’ve
worked with PetSavers since beginning Barking from the Bayou last
December. They are wonderful.
Recently, I discovered that we have another humane society. My husband and I looked for it one day, but couldn’t find it. Last week, the manager Bobbie called me after I left a message. She explained they don’t have signs out in front of the shelter to avoid having boxes of unwanted animals dropped off overnight.
Recently, I discovered that we have another humane society. My husband and I looked for it one day, but couldn’t find it. Last week, the manager Bobbie called me after I left a message. She explained they don’t have signs out in front of the shelter to avoid having boxes of unwanted animals dropped off overnight.
We
went with actual directions this time and I must say that I was beyond impressed! The building was a donation from a retired veterinarian. Courtney, the office manager, showed us photos
of the “before” building. The work they
have done on a shoestring budget is incredible.
The buildings were clean, organized, and well maintained. The volunteers worked so hard, and were very
friendly. “Follow me and ask questions
while I make my rounds,” was all of their response. Every person was knowledgeable of the dogs in
the shelter.
I
was so motivated to help them. The name
is the Northwest Louisiana Humane Society, although they are not affiliated
with the national organization. There
are so many fundraising ideas swirling around my head to raise much needed cash
and donations for them. Please leave a
comment if you have found a great idea to help.
They have been selected as the “give back” charity of the Insane
Inflatable 5K run/walk on December 13th. If you live in the Ark-La-Tex, please join
the fun and I do mean FUN! You can
register here. http://insaneinflatable5k.com/
The
HSNWLA normally has around 35 to 50 dogs and puppies. The adoption fees vary from $125-$150 for the
pups and $50 to $100 for the adults. You
can check their Facebook page for the dogs that are available for
adoption. Here are two sweethearts that
I'd appreciate you sharing. I featured
Ellie Mae last week. She was delivered
to the shelter the day we went to visit.
Since I'm a Basset mom, it breaks my heart to know she is not in a
loving home.
I will be collaborating with the Humane Society
of Northwest Louisiana on Tuesday’s Tails for the near future. It is my way of saying thanks for the years with
my precious Miss Gitty.
The boys’ top story on yesterday’s BFTB NETWoof News was Bentley being featured on the Free Kibble “What Makes Me Happy.” Here is the link to the page. Scroll down and you will see Bentley’s
smiling face!

Wow! What a super busy week already and it must feel wonderful to find such a caring and supportive shelter like HSNWLA. I bet this is the beginning of a very rewarding relationship. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope that it is, because I really enjoyed meeting the volunteers and dogs. ☺
DeleteI wonder how many shelters are "hidden" like that? So glad you found them. Those are two sweeties and I hope they find loving homes for the holidays. Sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great question. I certainly understand the need for it. People will dump puppies when nobody is watching. Thanks for sharing.
Deletethat does sound like a wonderful shelter - One idea they could try is a pet related auction - that is what ours local shelter does each year - they get the pet stores, pet companies and people to donate items that they can put up to auction (we always donate some paintings) Each year they have a different theme - one year it was a barbeque, the next year it was a black tie event.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic idea! Thanks ♥
DeleteBeautiful pups!! Sharing :)
ReplyDeleteBentley!! You lucky dog! Look at your adorable face over on the kibble site!!!! That is SO wonderful!!!!!
I would love to catch your radio show this evening! I just have to figure out what time it would be for me here in Canada.
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Sorry, the radio show is on Thursday. I will try to put a link here so you should be able to listen on my blog. **Paws crossed ☺
DeleteAhhh ok! Thanks!
DeleteWe can TRULY understand WHY they don't have signs... last year someone tied a dog to the door of the Shelter near us. It got down to -5 ° F here that night and the poor thing FROZE to DEATH over night.. It made everyone SO sad.
ReplyDeleteOh no! That is terrible, but you're right that is exactly what happens. The people that tied that dog up probably blames the shelter for its death. BrrrrrGrrrr!
DeleteSo glad you found a shelter to work with! Every pet can use a little extra highlight to find their forever homes!
ReplyDeleteThe Insane Inflatables 5K they are receiving a portion from looks like a blast! I can't wait to go help out and laugh. Click on the link and check out the insanity!
DeleteGreat photos - love being able to help shelter pets. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you SlimDoggy. The HSNWLA is fantastic. ♥
DeleteShe is exactly like I pictured her when reading your book!
ReplyDeleteYay! I am so glad. All of my characters and their personalities are the same as my sweet babies had through the years.
DeleteThat sounds like a wonderful shelter. Thank you for helping, and for sharing about Foxy Roxy and Ellie Mae!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It really is incredible. Now, if I can only win the Mega Millions tonight! LOL!
DeleteHow fun to see Bentley on that website....I love that photo of him!
ReplyDeleteThat is great that you found another wonderful shelter to work with, it sounds like a great place with lots of caring people.
Lots of wags and woofs from the crew at Wag n Woof Pets
Thank you Janet. We are so very proud of our boy! I love the Free Kibble site. When you donate the cat litter the cat scratches and meows. It always makes me smile. ♥
