Bentley: “Hello friends! Welcome to this week’s edition of BFTB
Channel 7 NETWoof News. I’m Bentley,
your Hound on the Ground sniffing out only the good news stories that will make
your day brighter. What can I say, I’m a
dog; it’s what I do. I’m joined at the
news desk by my perky co-anchor, Pierre the Westie. Our Weather Lab Paisley is scampering around
for any last minute storm warnings.”
Pierre: “Top o’ the morning
Bentley! May your treat jar be forever
full. We want to remind everyone to wear
something green tomorrow for St. Patrick’s Day.
Nobody wants to be pinched. Our top
story shows how one abandoned dog reacted when he found himself in a
pinch. Hero, as he is now known barked
continually at a couple of passersby.
The woman knew the stray and realized he was missing his pregnant
companion. Fortunately, she was
walking with a dog behaviorist who immediately knew the dog was signaling them.
They followed Hero and discovered the
mother dog and ten puppies. Thanks to
Hero, they are now living as a family in foster care until the puppies are
ready to be adopted.”
Bentley: “It’s always good
when the daddy dog takes responsibility.
Hero sounds like a real stand-up dude.
This next story is about another incredible dog. Smiley is a Golden Retriever who just happens
to have been born with a few obstacles.
Not the least of which was being born in a puppy mill, Smiley was also
born with a form of dwarfism, bowed back legs, and completely blind. Did he give up and roll over? No Sirree Bob! His human rescued him and they began to work
together. Smiley is now a therapy dog giving
his special love to mentally ill and disabled patients in Canada. People often think he is a puppy due to his
small size and very fluffy hair, but Smiley is over ten years old. Way to be awesome Smiley! We will return after this commercial break.”
Pierre: “Before we head
over to sports, I’d like to ask our readers a question. Have you ever flown your dog in cargo? I’m not sure if I should get in my big kennel
and hitch a flight to go see my mom. We
are all somewhat nervous at the idea, but we don’t know how else to get me from
here to there. It is too far for us to
drive. We’d really appreciate your
comments. Now turning to sports, we have
a fish tale of ginormous proportions.”
Paisley: “Hey guys! Did someone mention fishin’? I’m going to be an expert fishing dog when I
get a little bit older. Like in a month,
I think…maybe. Anyway, I should prolly
take the story. Okay, thanks! A guy named Jeff Corwin reeled in a
gargantuan stingray. This thing was a
gigantic 800 pounder! It took him and
his crew a couple of hours to get the whopper landed. It could be the largest freshwater fish ever
caught on a rod & reel. Enjoy it
Jeff, because when I start catching some catfish, your record is history. Don’t y’all think I can catch an 801 pound
catfish?”
Bentley: “You know that we
believe you can do anything sweetie. *wink-wink Let’s look at who we have
added in the car as we go BlogPaws Conference
Cruising." *Click to enlarge
Bentley: "I couldn’t resist myself,
I have put Harley’s new little
brother Jax in my lap to cruise. Now,
don’t worry he is completely safe and 100% adorable! My sweetie, Emma is helping me puppy
sit. Harley is relaxing in the hot tub with
Sugar the Golden Retriever, Bailie, Mort & Tig, Harley & Charlie, Chuy,
and Dexter. We have plenty of room and
welcome pets attending the Nashville conference to join us. Paisley, are you ready to welcome some spring
weather this week?”
Paisley: “Yes sir! We will have a couple of dry days around
here, but mid-week a low-pressure system will bring rain through the center of
our country. Ugh, bummer! Our friends in the west are enjoying warmer
than average temperatures and some of them are already hitting the beach! The east’s snow should be melting, but y’all
have to keep your eyes open for flooding dangers. Remember, you cannot judge the depth of a
puddle from the top. Avoid getting in
over your head and turn around, don’t drown.
Thank you very much. Can I go
play now?”
Bentley: “Wait just a minute
while we say our good-byes. Thank you
all for trusting us each week as your #1 Hound Dog News. Have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day and stay
safe. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we
leave you with this; ‘May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light.
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.’ Y’all be sure to grab yourself some happy.”
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.’

I've never flown in cargo, but have in da cabin multiple times.
ReplyDeleteMiss Chloe came to me on an airplane all by herself! She only weighed three pounds and was ten weeks old!! I was a nervous wreck! She flew from Tulsa, Oklahoma through Chicago to Rochester, NY. I sure was relieved when I saw her little face in that crate window! Honestly, even though the girls are small...I do not think either one of them would do well flying. That is the reason we bought the RV! If we go somewhere, they come with us...or we do not go!
ReplyDeleteI've never been in cargo but Mum has seen several dogs in the cabin when she's flown. Is it worth checking with different airlines to see what their policy is?

ReplyDeleteHero is a hero, that's for sure! We never used an airplane and my momma said as long as I have to ride in the cargo area, we better stay away from flying machines....
ReplyDeleteeasy rider
Bentley, how do I hitch a ride with you to BlogPaws? You know I am going...and Ma is doing a one-on-one class for Blogger blogs! I would much rather ride with all my friends that be stuck in the car with my boring parents! Great newscast today pals.
ReplyDeleteOz

ReplyDeleteWells, I flew to Ma all the way from Wisconsin when I was 8 weeks old. There were lots of other doggies flyin' with me, butts I was the loudest!!! BOL!! I wish I could give some good advice, butts I've heard some good stories and some horror stories. We flew Alaskan Airlines, I think they're pretty good with dogs in cargo, butt my suggestion is do all the online research you can to find the best one. Also, try and get a non-stop flight. Less chance of accidents on the tarmac. Sorry I couldn't be more help...
Kisses,
Ruby ♥

ReplyDeleteThe Mad Scots
we's gonna let our mom weight in on the flying thing since she's a pilot and all: no, and I never will. There are so many things that can go wrong in cargo, not the least of which is that a pet can become lost or somehow the carrier becomes unsecured. Also - although they say that the cargo area remains pressurized at all times, until such time as the airline offers to have a human riding in cargo to supervise the animals - I simply don't trust that pressurization will be maintained. There is at least one documented instance of a kitten arriving at destination with clear decompression sickness. That's an ugly way to die - and the kitten did. :-(
ReplyDeleteI know sometimes there are situations where an animal must be shipped cargo, but if possible, please avoid it!
My gang is wearing green tomorrow. Your outfits are great, we have the same glasses and the same bunny masks. Have a great night.
ReplyDeleteThose were some great stories! Paisley, could you try a little harder to send more thawing our way? Winter just won't go away here in NH! Nashville is really looking good right now!
