BFTB NETWoof News August 3, 2015

Bentley: “Welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News with Pierre the Westie, Paisley the Weather Lab and myself, Bentley Basset. We have some really fun stories for you so let’s get started. Pierre?”
BFTB NETWoof News on Dog nose prints

Pierre: “Thank you and hello friends. Our top story is concerning a dog’s nose. Did you know that a dog’s nose print is unique to each dog? They are our version of fingerprints. The Canadian Kennel Club has been using it for identification for years. The bottom line is if you notice your dog rubbing their nose on the concrete, they may have broken the law and are attempting to erase their nose print. You may need to sit them down for a serious talk.”
Bentley: “Seriously, that is our top story? It must have been a slow news week. Most of the media has concerned Cecil the Lion’s murder. We here at BFTB News try to bring good news stories to you each week. There are enough seriously bad stories concerning our animal kingdom at every turn. It is our job to bring a smile to your day and leave most of the gritty news to the human news outlets. *Shudder  We also can’t help but think if everyone got this upset over puppy mills, dog fighting and kill shelters, there might be a change here at home. That is just our opinion and we are very sad about Cecil. Now, let’s get excited about a new species of canine.”
Pierre: “This is very cool and has the entire canine community buzzing. Originally believed to be a golden jackal, the Eastern African is actually a golden wolf! For years, scientists believed they were jackals but DNA tests show they are indeed different. Although they look similar on the outside, a closer examination shows the golden wolf has a wider skull and stronger teeth. They are found in north and east Africa along with the Middle East. The golden jackal lives in southern Europe to the Middle East and southern Asia.”
Bentley: “Wow that brings the canine species total to 36 including wolves, foxes, coyotes, jackals, and us. It also brings us to this week’s sports and do we ever have a surprise for you! We have a live report from our friend and Roving Retriever, Sugar. It is exciting to have you as a guest reporter for BFTB Sports.”
Sports with Sugar

Sugar: “Hello! The Golden Woofs Team is reporting from the 2015 Unleashed Surfdog by Petco Surf Dog Competition. It was a beautiful day in California and the dogs were hanging ten like champions. There were four divisions ranging from the small dogs to X-Large. Here are the winners from this year’s big event. In the small dog category, the winners are 3rd place – Sampson, a King Charles Cavalier, 2nd place Coppertone the Dachshund and the winner is Ziggy, an American Eskimo. The medium division saw Cherie the French Bulldog place 3rd, Brandy the Pug came in 2nd and our winner was Abbie, an Australian Kelpie. Among the winner in the large division is the 3rd place Golden Doodle, Musubi, Lola the English Bulldog was 2nd, and Kalani a Golden Retriever took first place. You can see a photo of the two of us on my blog. Last we had the X-Large dog winners and they were a great group. Placing 3rd was Haole, a Labrador Retriever, Teddy the Boxer was 2nd and surfing for 1st was Hanzo a Boxer. I will have the complete wrap-up and photos over on Golden Woofs this week. Back to you in the studio, boys!”
Bentley: “Thank you so much, Sugar. It was so nice of you to share your photographs and join us for this special competition! We are looking forward to celebrating your 14th Barkday Pawty Celebratory blog hop on August 10th.”
Paisley: “Sugar is such a nice lady. It was fun to have another girl on the broadcast. Hey, did y’all hear about my friend Hooch from Cello's Corner? He is in the AKC’s WOOFipedia Dock Dogs United States overall rankings. Listed at #49 with an average 23’7.4” he is now the #1 German Short-Haired Pointer in America! *swoon I want to hang his poster in my kennel.”
Pierre: “It sounds like someone has a case of puppy love! Do you also have our weather forecast?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather

Paisley: “Of course, I have the forecast! There will be storms in the northeast and Florida can expect more of the wet stuff. California is expecting some thunderstorms that could be a double-edged sword. The rain will help douse some of the fires, but with all of the dry brush the winds and lightning could spark more flames. We are sending our love to those affected. The south and the middle of the country will be sunny. Our friends in the northwest will actually see some cooler temps.  I hate to sound like a broken record, but please do not leave your dogs in your car! It boggles my mind that some humans just don’t get it.”
Bentley: “We know and I’m sure our audience feels the same way. Thanks for another great forecast. 3. It is always a tough balance with new stories - yes when something like Cecil happens everyone gets so upset and rightly so and yes - it is sad we don't see the same outrage over shelter pets who have been abused or killed - but nor do more people care that over 40,000 a year die in road accidents in the USA each year.
