BFTB NETWoof News December 21, 2015

Bentley: “Welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of Christmas 2015. I am your ho-ho-host Bentley Basset. Joining me at the anchor desk are our resident elves Pierre and Paisley the Weather Lab. We fetched some good dog news to start your holiday week off with but let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. There are going to be a lot of humans on Santa’s naughty list. Just sayin’. Pierre, what is our Top Story?”

Pierre: “It’s the end of the year and that means we have the Top 10 lists of everything. Since we are the very best dog news on the Bayou, I thought that it was appropriate to name America’s favorite puppies of 2015. We are featuring the Top 5 today. I find it very strange that the magnificent White West Highland Terrier is not on this short list. I think there might be some mistakes with the numbers, but never the less, here is the list.
#5~ French Bulldog
#4~ Chihuahua
#3~ Rottweiler
#2~ Shih Tzu
And the #1 puppy for 2015 is the Golden Retriever!”
Bentley: “Well, my best brother ever was Tucker, the Golden Retriever so I can understand that. It seems rather odd that the Basset Hound, Westie or Lab weren’t on that short list. There is no accounting for human tastes, I suppose.”
Paisley: “I’d like to point out that the Labrador Retriever was #7. I’m number one at my house, anyway! Okay, back to you, Bentley.”
Bentley: “Thanks for that insight Paisley. We are happy to announce that a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever was given a stay of execution in Florida after a dog biting incident. Padi bit a child of the same age after being provoked. The state has very strict laws regarding “vicious” dogs. The judge in Manatee County ruled the statute unconstitutional in this case. The dog bit the young boy on the ear causing the child to need stitches and reconstructive surgery. This is a perfect example of parent’s not teaching children how to behave around dogs. I hope they settle the pending personal lawsuit so everyone can get back to their lives.”
BFTB NETWoof News story about sick dogs
Pierre: “Most dogs don’t attack unless they are provoked. Unfortunately, there is a new flu that is attacking dogs. The H3N2 has made its way to Texas from the Midwest. It could have been spread by a dog from the Chicago area being boarded in the Round Rock, Texas area. The symptoms are similar to kennel cough. Dogs have a heavy cough, lack of appetite, a fever and are very tired. This flu was only discovered a week ago and four dogs have already tested positive. It is important to keep your dogs away from any others that show signs of an illness. Be especially careful at doggie daycares and parks.
BFTB NETWoof Sports with Earl's World dogs
Bentley: “I sure don’t want to ring in the New Year with a nasty bout of the flu. Turning to sports, let’s put our paws together for the adorable Earl and Ethel. Our two favorite Border Terriers from Earl’s World have had a very successful 2015. At a recent Dog Vegas and Agility Nuts, Earl won his Grade 5 Jumping and came in 2nd in Grade 5 Agility! He also went clear in his other combined classes and all of his runs were inside the times set for the courses. Little Ethel is kicking tail too! She did really well in her Grade 3 Jumping and came in 4th in a class of around 35 dogs in ABL Jumping. If you aren’t familiar with these two friends of ours, please stop by their blog and congratulate them. You’ll fall in love with them too.”
Pierre: “Way to be awesome Earl and Ethel! Hey Paisley, what are the chances of a white Christmas this week?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather with U.S forecast
Paisley: “It’s not looking too promising. There might be some snow on the ground in parts of the U.S. but not like there has been in previous years. It’s beginning to look at lot like an El Nino Christmas. It will mainly be a wet Christmas for most of the United States. Let’s look at the map for the week. The northwest might see some snow and rain. It will be cold in the north and northeast with a few late-week showers. Along the east coast, the southern states and even on the west coast there will be rain. The south will be warm too. The center of the country will be cool, but there’s a gradual warm-up expected. It is okay, Santa believes like the post office; neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will keep him and his reindeer from their appointed rounds! Just make sure that your stockings are hung by the chimney with care.”
Bentley: “On behalf of the entire crew at BFTB NETWoof News, we wish you all the very merriest of Christmases. Enjoy time with family, friends and pets. We hope that you have time to stop back and visit us this week. No matter what your week holds, be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  4. Bailie and I were both really sick with a flu infection last month. Our vet said it had been going around. No fun, but we got over it in a few days. The bummer is you have to stay away from other dogs for two weeks, which meant no playing with friends or going to classes. Have a great Christmas week!

  5. The Goldens always seem to come out on top of the list. Of course, they are adorable and lovely so we understand why.

That flu is scary stuff! We thought we got rid of it, but just heard a report that it has resurfaced in parts of the Chicago area. Yuck.

  6. The Golden always seems to make the top 1 or 2 most wanted pup, they really are great dogs. I've been hearing about this new flu going around, it's very scary. We'll be traveling cross country soon and we've got to be extra careful. Also, no day camp or dog park for awhile!

  7. It is kind of sad in a way - most of these lists are a reflection of which ever breeds are most popular with celebrities - we have noticed French bulldogs are very popular amongst celebs at the moment - the sad thing is they change their minds on a whim and what happens to all the pups that are no longer in favor?

  8. Thank you for featuring Earl and Ethel! I am SO proud of them and their achievements!

  9. Frenchies in the house!
    Happy Holidays
    Lily & Edward

  10. Ha, we heard NO ONE gets a white one this year!!! Scrooged again!!

  11. Oh no, we hope they get that flu contained so no other pups get sick!
We can't believe we are not going to have a White Christmas here in New's just crazy! Well, that's OK, we'll still have fun no matter the weather!

  12. Plott Hounds should be in the top!! We are not going to have any snow and we are all perfectly ok with it.

  13. Thanks for the news recap. I had not heard of a new flu. I just read something about a new vaccine being available. I thought it was for that strain, but you say it is a new one?

  14. Oh Man...Arty is going to hold that "Shih Tzu's are #2" over the rest of us all year long....
Dory, Jakey, Arty (the #2 Shih Tzu) & Bilbo

  15. Hate to hear that flu is traveling, but thanks for the heads up guys.

  16. We are having crazy weather right now - rain, slush, hail, thunder & lightning
    Mr Bailey, Hazel & Mabel

  17. Way to go Earl and Ethel! Have a very Merry Christmas!

  18. Congrats to Earl and Ethel! We're not going to have a White Christmas either... just a very soggy one!
