Bentley: “Happy Martin Luther King Day and welcome to this week’s edition of BFTB NETWoof News. I’m joined, as always, by my co-anchor Pierre Westie and our top-notch Weather Lab Paisley. Each Monday we fetch the good news to start your week with a smile. What is our Top Story, Pierre?

Pierre: “We had several great stories, so choosing the top one was difficult. We decided our Top Story would be a salute to a human. Not just any human, but fellow newsman Anderson Cooper. Many of you know him as an amazing television personality and CNN reporter, but he is also an incredible dog lover. He heard that one of Norfolk Police dogs K9, Krijger, was killed on the job. Mr. Cooper decided to donate money to get a military-style vest for every K9 at the Norfolk Police Department. Way to be awesome, Anderson Cooper!”
Bentley: “I have always liked him. Whenever I start getting paid for my newscasts, I’ll do something cool like that. Remind me to speak to management about our lack of pay. This next story once again highlights the importance of microchipping. A little Chihuahua from Texas somehow made its way over 800 miles to Atlanta, Georgia! Coco weighs in at a whopping 5 pounds and has been missing since September. The Atlanta Humane Society was able to locate the owner by scanning his chip. They even bought her a plane ticket from Texas so she could pick up her little friend.
Pierre: “I’m proud to say that I received my chip a couple of weeks ago. How cool is it that the entire BFTB news team has been microchipped? Speaking of cool, the dog in this next story is downright cold! A scared hound was stranded on a bunch of downed trees in the middle of Spring Creek. That is in Roane County, West Virginia. A concerned citizen contacted the local shelter and reported the pup. The Reedy Fire Department arrived on the scene with a row boat to try and get him. After a good deal of coaxing, the humane officer was able to the retrieve the dog with a snare pole. The hound named Mac was reunited with the family. I sure hope he learned his lesson.”

Bentley: “Hopefully, he won’t forget the ordeal anytime soon. That leads us to our next report. Elephants are known for never forgetting and I have read stories that prove it’s true. They are pack animals and go to great lengths to help one another. For some reason, a baby elephant was shunned by his mother and the rest of the herd. He was discovered in pretty bad shape and taken to the Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in South Africa. After months of intensive care Ellis the Elephant, slowly improved. Even though his physical condition was better, he was obviously broken-hearted and lonesome. That is when Duma, a former service /sniffer German Shepherd dog who is the resident pet was introduced to Ellis. The change in the young elephant’s personality was remarkable. The two play together and have become best friends. Ellis is emerging as a happy healthy elephant. It goes to show that opposites not only attract, but bring out the best in one another.”
Pierre: “I’ve heard of a dog and pony show, but this is the first dog and elephant story! It made my tail wag. That makes it difficult to report this last story. It appears that the H3n2 dog flu has reared its ugly head in the Seattle area. It is most commonly encountered in doggy daycares and dog parks. If your dog is exhibiting coughing or a runny nose, please don’t take them out in public areas. We urge dog parents to be very careful and try to avoid exposure to their pups.
Bentley: “Before we go to our Weather Lab, I’m happy to report that our friend, Sugar the Golden Retriever did well with her surgery. She is recuperating at home with her parents. We wish her a speedy recovery. Paisley, will Sugar have blue skies in SoCal?”
Paisley: “Sugar’s smile is always a ray of sunshine and the folks in California are going to need it. The west coast will see some more rain with temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s. The northern states are in a deep freeze. They will experience snow with temperatures plunging to zero and below. That makes me cold just reporting it. Our friends on the east coast will have snow and temperatures in the 30’s. Here in the south, we will see sunny skies and temps anywhere from the 50’s in Texas to the 70’s in Florida. The cities along the Gulf Coast will be partly cloudy. The center of the U.S. will also see clouds accompanying temperatures in the 40’s. Utah and Colorado can expect more snow this week. It is a hodge-podge weather week, but make it a great one wherever you live. Back to you, Bentley.”
Bentley: “That is all of the time we have this week. Thank you for stopping by the Bayou for your news and weather. We are always here, so if you see a news story or have something exciting that you’d like us to report drop us an email at thereturns7@gmail.com. DeleteOne note on the chipping thing...always make sure your humans update the contact info if you move or change phone numbers. Many people forget and then if you get lost the info is wrong which is a huge problem! There are some flu strains around here too which is what got Bailie and I so sick in November. Scary stuff. Have a howling good week!
