BFTB NETWoof News January 4, 2016 #DogNews

Bentley: “Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to the first BFTB NETWoof News for 2016. As always, I am your ace newshound, Bentley. Joining me at the news desk is my co-anchor Pierre the Westie and our faithful Weather Lab Paisley. I hope that both of them have recovered from the holiday season and are ready to report. Pierre, have you fetched our top story?”

Pierre: “Of course, I have my report. Need I remind you that I am a professional? Today’s top story is about a couple of star-crossed lovers. It started with two harbor seals that lived together for seven years and fell madly in love. They resided at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in England. The curators of the sanctuary didn’t think they had anything to worry about as far as the pair breeding. The male, Babyface is one of the oldest living seals in captivity so they were certain that he was too old to still be fertile. Besides, the female Sija was on a seal contraceptive pill. Don’t snicker, it’s a real thing! Anyway, they overcame the odds and produced two seal pups before it was decided that they should be separated. It is your typical Romeo and Juliet kind of story. The two seemed to be coping okay with the separation, but the humans thought it would be nice to let them stay in touch. That is when it was decided that they would get two iPads and let Babyface and Sija enjoy some Facetime or rather Sealtime. When they put the screens down so the lovers could see one another, they nosed right up to the screens. It looks like another successful long-distance relationship!”
Bentley: “Is that what it means to seal it with a kiss? Speaking of a kiss, the military is kissing the Robo Dog good-bye. What was hailed as a techno-canine that could be used in battle to carry equipment and perform other tasks has proven to have a problem that is all too common with actual dogs. They are just too darn loud!  The LS3, created by Google-owned Boston Dynamics, was loud enough to give our military’s position away to the enemies. That is never a good thing so the robotic dogs were retired before they were ever actually used in a real-world situation. The $42 million dollar project was a collaborative endeavor with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The two agencies claim that it was never their intention to use the Robo Dogs in actual combat. Supposedly, it was just to show the feasibility of legged robots and not a candidate to be deployed. I don’t know about you, but that seems like an awfully expensive test. That money could have done a lot of good for our human wounded warriors here at home. It’s just my opinion, of course.”
Pierre: “I think that you might be barking up the right tree there, my friend. In case you missed our announcement about the changes here on Barking from the Bayou, we will only be posting Monday thru Friday. You can count on us to post on the weekends if there is a special occasion or holiday. The best way to make sure that you never miss us is to sign up to have email delivery. You can do that at the top of our page where it says, “Fetch My Blog in Your Email” It is under that photo of our ace reporter kissing his mom. I will refrain from passing judgment on him being a Mama’s Boy…”
BFTB NETWoof News with drawing of two ways a dog can wear pants

Bentley: “If the shoe fits I’ll wear it. That brings me to our last story of the week. A drawing has gone viral that begs the question of how a dog should wear pants. Now, the answer is obvious to those of us in the canine world. We wear our pants on our back legs to cover our rears. Our front legs or arms as I like to refer to them, are for our shirts or jackets. Seriously, how can this even be a debate? Of course, if you disagree, feel free to comment. Pierre, what is happening in the world of sports?”

Pierre: “There wasn’t a lot going on since it was a holiday week, but I did check in with our friends at Cello’s Corner to see how Team Liver Killers are keeping in shape during the winter months. You are not going to believe this, but they have their very own doggie treadmill! How cool is that? This photo is of Lager working out while Hooch watches from the comfort of his bed! I wonder if we can rig Mom’s so that we can run walk inside during the cold weather. It is definitely something to think about since we aren’t fans of the cold. How about it Paisley, is Old Man Winter going to visit this week?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather forecast map
Paisley: *Swoon “That Hooch is so dreamy." *Sigh "Sorry, I got lost there for a second. What were we talking about? Oh yes, you asked about Old Man Winter visiting. Of course, it depends on where you live but there will be some chilly weather and snow in the north. Most of the United States will have scattered showers including the northeast and western coastline. The south will see midweek showers and those are going to travel across the south all the way to the east coast. The center of the country will be breezy and partly cloudy but the temperatures are going to be cooler. The weather won’t be as treacherous as it was last week. Hopefully, if you are flying there won’t be any delays. No matter what your weather brings, have a great week.”
Bentley: “We can always count on Paisley to put a positive spin on our forecast. I also wanted to say Congratulations to the winner of our Huge Holiday Cash Giveaway of $250. It was Crystal who registered on My GBGV Life’s blog. We appreciate everyone that entered and look forward to giving away more cash next Christmas! On behalf of the BFTB news team, thank you for dropping by today. Be sure to join us each day this week as we share some laughs and great ways to be a better pet parent.
