Last July, I wrote a post about Bentley’s new Whistle™ Activity Monitor. It is, for lack of a better description, a FitBit® for your dog. You can refer to my original post to learn the basic information and phone requirements. We have been using it for six months and I thought it was time for an update. There are three words that come to mind; I Love it!
The Whistle only weighs 16 grams and easily attaches to your pet’s collar. You download the free Whistle app and sync it to your smartphone through the Bluetooth®/Wi-Fi settings. The entire process is very simple even if you are not exactly tech savvy. There is a button on the side of the device that you push to connect it to your phone. You receive activity updates every hour.
What Will Your Whistle Monitor?
You set the amount of activity time that you feel is best for your dog taking in consideration their breed and age. You will also be able to compare their rate to other dogs of similar description. The Whistle will show you the level of intensity that your dog is exerting and the time that it occurs. You will get a message when you have reached your daily goal. It will also message you for any change in the level of activity. If your dog is feeling sick and is sleeping more than normal, the Whistle will let you know they have been less active than normal. There is also a place to add what and how much that your dog eats.
You can set reminders about any medications that your pet is taking. Bentley takes his monthly heartworm medicine and I have the app set so that it will alert me on that day. I have accidentally missed a dosage by a day or more by not looking at my wall calendar. This is a great reminder so you never miss administering a pill. All of these features are very user-friendly.

Whistle sends you a weekly report that details:
· Daily Activity/Average Activity per day/Most Active day.
· Average Rest per day/Most Restful day
· How many people contributed to your dog’s activities
· Any photos that you shared
You Can Make Whistle Friends
I have only recently joined the Whistle community. The app allows you to connect with other Whistle users. You can post photos of your dog’s adventures and join in the discussion board. I’m anxious to get more involved as I step up my own activity regiment. There is no shortage of beautiful and active dogs from all over the country that are Whistling. I have made a number of friends and we are following each other as well as our dogs. You can “like” photos and message each other.
What if I need help?
If you have any trouble with your Whistle, the support team is very fast with their response. I recently had some trouble keeping my Whistle synched. I wrote and explained my problem. The next day I had a letter explaining how to reset my device. They also checked back to make sure that I was satisfied. I was extremely happy with the support and to have Bentley back on track.
The Bottom Line
Before I began using the Whistle Activity Monitor, I had no idea exactly how much exercise Bentley was getting each day. Thanks to the information provided, I can now be sure that he reaches his daily goal. I have to credit the Whistle as one of the key factors in him losing 15 pounds. His last veterinarian check-up showed him at his ideal weight! That hasn’t happened in a long time.
The Whistle is waterproof and extremely durable. The battery usually lasts about 10 days and is recharged by plugging the charger into your computer’s USB port for one-hour. You will receive a message when the battery is running low and again when it is charged.
You can purchase your Whistle on their site for $79.00. It comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. I have seen them for sell in pet stores for $99.00 so online is the better deal. To me, it is a small price to pay to know that Bentley is getting enough exercise. It also motivates me to get off my seat and move my feet. If you have decided that 2016 is the year that you and your dog get in shape, the Whistle Activity Monitor could be a game changer.

It's great that he's at his perfect weight now! Right now, we're doing it much less scientifically. Mr. N gets weighed every so often and I up his exercise if needed.

ReplyDeleteThen again, maybe Ma will take me for MORE walkies (two a day is just not enough you know!), and she will be sure to hit her 'all green'! BOL!!
