BFTB NETWoof News February 15 2016

Bentley: “Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of BFTB NETWoof News. I’m your news hound Bentley Basset and joining me at the desk are my co-anchor Pierre Westie and our Weather Lab Paisley. We fetch the good news to start your week with a smile. What is our top story, Pierre?”

Pierre: This week our top story is truly aww-inspiring. A Good Samaritan in Brazil rescued some orphaned opossums and took them home. She bottle-fed them every two hours and they began to thrive. That is when the woman’s dog decided to become the baby possums' surrogate mom. Now that they have gotten a bit older, the dog walks around with the babies riding on her back just like they would their real mom.”
Bentley: “Aww, that is so sweet. This next story is a rescue of a different kind. Animal control officers in Massachusetts were called to help a buck get untangled from a backyard hammock. Its antlers were stuck in the webbing, but they were able to set it free. The officers are reminding people not to leave their hammocks up when they are not in use. Apparently the bucks like to stop there.”

Pierre: “We have shared outrageous government spending before but this really has us shaking our heads. The NIH (National Institutes of Health) is going to spend 10 million dollars to ensure gender equity in animal research, specifically in rats. Their stance is the majority of lab rats are male and exclude medical advances for women. Now while we understand the scientific need to get results from both male and female rats, how can that possibly cost 10 million dollars? Can’t they just order an equal amount of male and female rats? Again, we can think of so many animal rights issues that could be helped with that amount of money.”
Bentley: “Sometimes government people are very hard to understand. You know that we like to pride ourselves in being on the cutting edge of technology and this new app is bark-worthy. It is called “Fetch” from Microsoft and it will give you the breed of a dog when you take a photo of it on your phone. If you have mixed-breed, the app will give you a percentage with the closest breed match. It will come in very handy to everyone attending or watching this week’s Westminster Dog Show. There are some unusual breeds sashaying around the ring.”
Pierre: “I love watching the big show! It is so much fun to cheer on the Westies and Basset Hounds. Since our breeds seldom make it to the finals, we always enjoy the claw biting excitement. The show will be broadcast on television tonight and tomorrow night. Everyone can check the Westminster Dog Show TV coverage to find the station in your local area. How will the weather be in New York City? I hope it isn’t going to be raining cats and dogs!”

Paisley: “The weather is really a hodgepodge of precipitation and temperatures. The northeast is seeing record-low temperatures with snow and rain so those show dogs had better bundle up in New York City. The south will see highs in the 70’s and 80’s but it is still cool at night. Our west coast friends will have temperatures in the 80’s with rain moving in midweek. Everyone in the center of the United States can expect highs in the 50’s and 60’s. It seems as if you will either enjoy some winter fun or you’ll think spring has sprung! No matter what the weather brings your way, go out and make it a great week.”

Bentley: “It does feel like another spring day down here on the bayou. We would like to thank everyone that entered our Instagram contest my sweetie Emma and I held. The winner of a Dr. Harvey’s treat prize package is Spencer the Goldendoodle! Congratulations Spence. We will hold more contests in the near future so fetch yourself an Instagram account so we can follow each other. Don’t miss a day of the action on Barking from the Bayou this week. Remember if you skip a day, you miss a lot of fun and information. Just to make sure that doesn’t happen, go ahead and sign up to have us delivered right to your email or on Bloglovin’ at the top right side of our page. Have a great President’s Day and be sure to grab yourself some happy! On behalf of the BFTB News team, I am Bentley Basset. Thanks for visiting.”
