BFTB NETWoof Dog News March 28, 2016

Bentley: “Welcome to BFTB NETWoof Dog News for the last week of March. Can you believe how fast this year is going? It seems as if we just took down the Christmas tree and now we have to put away the Easter baskets. Joining me at the anchor desk for all the breaking news is Pierre the Westie and Paisley, our Weather Lab. I hope the Easter Bunny was good to you both.”

Pierre: “It was an egg-stra special day. Let’s get straight to our top story. It is about a hopping animal but not the Easter bunny. A rogue kangaroo was spotted at city hall in Norwalk, Iowa. The police backed the culprit into a corner and put in an awaiting dog kennel. According to the officer, the roo’s owner purchased it in hopes of keeping it as a trained pet. When that didn’t happen, he listed it on Craigslist among other places. The kangaroo escaped prior to being sold. It’s been returned to the owner.” *shaking my head
Bentley: “That is one criminal that I’d expect to jump bail! This next story is about a dog that scored big at a soccer game in Brazil. The pup ran onto the field during the pitch. Players of the Oeste and Capivariano teams from São Paulo state tried to capture the impromptu player. He was finally escorted to an official without making a goal. He would have had better luck trying to score a hot dog at the snack bar.

Pierre: “Speaking of eating, did you know they are opening a dog café in Los Angeles next month? It is following the idea of the cat cafes that are popping up around the world. Guess what the name is…The Dog Café! I wonder if they will sell hot dogs. Mom would love to visit.”

Bentley: “All of this talk about food is making me hungry. Let’s move along before my stomach growls. Our heartwarming story of the week goes to Blakely, an Australian Shepherd dog at the Cincinnati Zoo. He has taken over the role of surrogate mom to five cheetah cubs after their mother passed away. They climb all over the dog which gives them proper exercise and gets their bowels moving. That is very important to baby animals. You’ll agree that it is aww-inspiring when I tell you they also have cuddle time together. The dog and cubs meet twice a day for about an hour each time. Blakely has been working with the zoo since he was rescued five years ago from a local shelter. This is the second time he has raised cheetahs.”

Pierre: “I’m not trying to be judgmental but if he taught them right from wrong then maybe they wouldn’t be such cheetahs. Hee hee! Sorry, it was just too easy. You know that there are many animals that aren’t big fans of taking baths. Some will do anything to try and avoid the intentional water boarding. However, I think Jonathon holds the record for delaying his first bath time. He is an 184-year-old giant tortoise and considered a national treasure on St. Helena Island. A veterinarian gave him his first bath using surgical soap and soft brushes to get Jonathon’s shell clean. Questioning why he was being given a bath, Jonathon is believed to have asked, “Who is coming…the Queen of England?” You can imagine his surprise when he learned that was exactly who he was going to meet.”
Bentley: “It will be nice for him to meet someone around his own age. What?!? Don’t look at me like that, I was calculating in dog years. Let’s cut over to Paisley, our Weather Lab.”
Paisley: “Hello, everyone! How crazy was the spring weather last week? I reported there would be snow, but WOW! Colorado really put on a show. I wish I could tell you that spring will finally arrive this week, but you need to be prepared for the possibility of more snow. It looks like snow mixed with rain will be falling in Denver as well as Nevada, Montana, and Iowa. There will be showers from the center of the country to the east coast. It is going to be a wet week along the northern states starting in Seattle and moving east. The showers should arrive on the upper east coast by Friday. The sun will shine on Arizona and New Mexico but the southern states will see scattered storms throughout the week. Folks along the west coast will have mild temperatures and some winds. The good news is the weekend is looking nice for everyone.”
