Bentley: “Hello and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News for the week of May 16, 2016. It has been quite an exciting few days for some of our animal friends. My co-anchor Pierre will have our top story and perhaps our Weather Lab Paisley can explain why people are still getting snow in May. Grab your favorite beverage and let’s get to the news."

Pierre: “Our top story is a salute to Haus, one very brave German Shepherd a family rescued two months ago. He was out in the yard with their 7-year-old girl when the two-year-old jumped in front of her to protect her from an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake. Although he was bitten three times, Haus would not leave the child. Vets expect a full recovery although he did suffer some kidney damage. A Go-Fund-Me page has exceeded the anticipated costs and the extra will be donated to a local rescue. The family lives near a Florida state park that is a habitat for rattlers and cottonmouths and sometimes they get into their yard.”

Bentley: “I’m guessing that information was not in the job description. We get the occasional snake in our backyard and I don’t mind admitting they give me the willies! That’s not all that was happening in Florida last week. A woman was driving along the interstate when a turtle came crashing through her windshield. I hit her passenger seat headrest and bounced back onto the dashboard! Luckily, the turtle was fine inside his shell. I’d imagine that was a shock to both of them.”

Pierre: “Cowabunga, dude! Wildlife is always surprising humans. A white ball python recently fell from the ceiling of a Tacoma hospital. It seems a visitor snuck it in the hospital inside a cage filled with stuffed animals to see a patient. It wasn’t until he arrived back home that he realized the snake had checked into the hospital itself. He notified the hospital but after a month, they forgot about it until it dropped in for a visit. The owner was happy to get his friend back home. I’m sure the patients are grateful the snake was discharged.”

Bentley: “We want to congratulate Scooter for being named the Oldest Living Cat by Guinness Book of World Records. The Siamese has lived with his mom in Mansfield, Texas since his birth in 1986. The 30-year-old enjoys riding around on his human’s shoulder and is purr-fectly content with the new title.”

Pierre: “It was two weeks ago on BFTB NETWoof News that we reported on the lions that were being released into a sanctuary after a lifetime as roadside circus performers in Colombia and Peru. Well, we are pleased to tell you that they are adapting to the new life and loving every minute of freedom. You can watch their first encounter with the great outdoors at this link. Speaking of the great outdoors, what’s the weather forecast?”
Paisley: “Hey y’all. I’ll get to the forecast in just a second, but let me tell you that cold front from Canada really snuck in on me. It dropped temperatures almost everywhere for a day or two. I know that we will all remember it fondly in a couple of more months. This week will bring more rain to a large chunk of the United States. Here in the south, we will have rain off and on for most of the week. The middle of the country will warm up along with our northern neighbors. It will be cool with midweek showers in the northeast while the northwest will see some late-week showers. Those of you on the west coast will have nice breezy weather while in Arizona and Texas it will be hot. No matter what your weather is this week, I hope that you carry some sunshine in your heart.”
Bentley: “Very nicely done, Paisley. We want to remind everybody about our fantastic Flagology house flag contest. Enter here for your chance to design a flag for your home. We have some more great stories this week including some exciting news about our Dr. Harvey’s Oracle dog food, more great information about combating parasites, the results of our own Petnostics test and more fun than you can shake a stick at. We hope to see you right back here tomorrow so go out and make it a terrific day. Be sure to grab yourself some happy.”
