Bentley Basset Hound: “Welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of February 6, 2017. We have once again fetched the animal news that you can use. What is our top story, Pierre?”
Pierre Westie: “It was a tough choice today but we decided to start with the story from the Westminster Dog Show. They're including three new breeds to their line-up. You can see the Sloughi, the American Hairless Terrier, and the Pumi all vying for the honor of Best in Show. In addition to the new dogs, they will also have cats as part of their “Meet the Breeds” lineup. That is going to be exciting. The 141st Westminster Show takes place at Madison Square Garden on February 13-14th and will feature around 3,000 dogs.”
Bentley: “I’m not sure if I’d want to be a cat in that mix! It seems that I have the creepy story again this week. A woman in Portland who has a pet ball python discovered that they enjoy squeezing into tight places the hard way. It became stuck in her ear gauge, which is a large pierced hole and she could not remove it. She tried cooking oil and the fire department but ended up at the hospital. Doctors had to make a cut on her ear in order to remove the slithering creature.”
Pierre: “Eerie is the word that comes to mind. Get it? On a serious note, we have an update on our recent story of the movie, A Dog’s Purpose. After an intensive investigation, authorities from the American Humane have concluded the dog shown in the viral video was not harmed in any manner. The clip had been edited to look much worse than what actually happened. That makes us very happy.
We also have a recall that you need to know about concerning Evanger’s dog food. We have reviewed this product in the past and were quite upset to learn of the problem. The company is recalling specific lots of Hunks of Beef due to a potential contaminant that is known as Pentobarbital. It was detected in one batch of Hunk of Beef Au Jus and can cause drowsiness, dizziness, loss of balance, nausea and even death. That is some scary stuff.”
Bentley: “I hope that no other pets are affected from ingesting this product. I’m glad Evanger’s has voluntarily recalled the food. On a different note, a moose in Sweden is thankful for a couple who took action to save its life. After enjoying a lunch, the two saw what they believed to be an unusual rock off shore. It turned out to be a moose that had become stuck in the frozen bay. They grabbed some tools and ice skated their way out to help. Using an axe, these heroes chiseled out a route to the shoreline. The moose was able to get its footing and make its way out of the icy water. Once on shore, it took off into the woods.”
Pierre: “Did you watch the Puppy Bowl or the Kitten Bowl this weekend? Who was your favorite? We always love watching the furry fun and excitement before the Super Bowl. I hope all of the pups and kitties find their forever homes. It was a great day for cuddling and watching the big games. Paisley, how is the weather looking for the week ahead?”
Paisley: “As you know by now, the groundhog saw his shadow so if you believe the rodent, we are in for six more weeks of winter. That appears to be true all across the northern states as we can expect cold temperatures with a mix of snow and rain. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we are really getting a heavy snow. It is beautiful and I am enjoying running around in it. The west coast won’t be as cold but they are still going to have to deal with the wet stuff. The center of the country will be very breezy with cooler temperatures. Down in the south, you will have to deal with much warmer than normal weather. Expect daytime highs to be near 80 throughout the week. Our friends on the east coast will have partly cloudy days and cool nights. Always tune into your local weather for updates and warnings. I wish everyone a super week. Remember to take the time to play with your pets.”
Bentley: “We always appreciate your forecast, Paisley. We also want to thank you, our awesome readers for counting on us for the best pet news around! Join us all week for more fun and information about your best furry friends. Have a great day and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

Great report guys! Hope all the recalled food was collected and no one else gets sick!
ReplyDeleteI have a big announcement for your news next year! The GBGV has finally been approved to be full AKC. We will be joining the Hound Group in 2018, so maybe we will finally be at Westminster too! My sisters and I don't ever want to be show dogs, so we won't go, but I bet some of our siblings may end up there!
ReplyDeleteI've heard of ear worms, but never a snake worm! Weird and c.r.e.e.p.y.
ReplyDeleteThankfully the Puppy Bowl provided loads of laughter yesterday. Such fun and good cheer and I'm always happy to see so many of the 'pawcipitants' find fur-ever homes.
Check out this video, below, about a deer stuck on the ice. I think you'll like it.
