Have you ever wondered what is making your dog itch? Is it something they are eating or rolling in? Figuring out what your dog is allergic to can be so frustrating. Over the years I have tried a variety of things to pinpoint what makes Bentley itch. He didn’t seem to have any food sensitivities but without extensive testing, I couldn’t be sure. Most of his itching begins with the change in weather so I felt his trouble was environmental. After checking with my veterinarian on the cost of allergy testing, it didn’t seem such a hardship to continue to play the elimination game. If only there was an easier and less expensive way to discover what was bugging my Basset!
Enter the wonderful people at PetMedella. They provide a simple at-home test that uses saliva and hair to help determine the root of your pet’s health issues. One of the reasons that I trusted PetMedella is they believe in holistic, natural remedies and a clean sustainable life. The dogs already eat holistic foods and we avoid using chemicals with the exception of their heartworm meds. I knew that any problems they discovered, they would have a healthy solution.
When my kit arrived, I broke the seal on the vial and retrieved the cotton-tipped swab. It was easy to wipe it along Bentley gums and under his tongue to collect the saliva. After that, I used a brush to collect some hair and put inside the little ziplock bag they provided. The kit also includes an instruction card where you write your name and phone number. You will visit their website at www.petmedella.com/mypet and follow the prompts. In addition to your pet’s basic information, you will answer questions concerning their health. Once you have collected the samples and completed the online survey, you are ready to mail the samples back to the company.
The technical name of PetMedella’s scanning technique is called BioResonance. The scans include a full body wellness check, toxin analysis, nutritional imbalances, hormonal imbalances, food and environmental sensitivities. It can even test for tick-borne toxins!
According to the website, you need to allow 7 to 10 business days to process and analyze your samples from the date they receive them. I was surprised to have mine back within 4 days. As soon as they notified me via email, I logged back into their site and had the complete results online.
It was such a relief to see how high Bentley’s scored on the 14 different systems listed. They scan 58 points to create the System Performance. You can read more information on each system by clicking on each of them.
I am proud to report that Bentley scored in the upper 90% on all but two of the results. He showed some weakness in his locomotor and immune systems. An explanation is provided with your results but luckily, you will also receive a phone consultation to help you understand the specifics.
The next section of results concentrates on Energetic Sensitivities. PetMedella scans almost 1,000 different food and environmental sensitivities.
As I expected, Bentley has a number of environmental allergies. They include mold, shrubs, pollen, perfume mix, cigarette mix, smoke, and grasses. It is easy for him to avoid smoke since we don’t smoke and I will limit wearing perfume. The problem is the outdoor allergies but I will be limiting his outdoor activities during the days where there is a high pollen count. He enjoys lying in the sun on the grass so while he can continue to do that on nice days, I will immediately wipe him down when he comes back indoors.
It was a surprise to see that his only other allergies were strawberries, bananas, and apricots. He has never had the latter but loves strawberries and bananas.
I had my consultation yesterday and discussed every element with Rachelle, a natural health practitioner. She was awesome and explained the results including the fact that Bentley is in incredible shape for a 9-year-old Basset Hound. There were recommendations of all-natural remedies that I can use to combat his problem areas. She even said his banana sensitivity was low and he should be able to resume eating them after I am able to clear the toxins from his system.
PetMedella offers a variety of holistic remedies that will help correct any of the system problems. I will be purchasing one of the homeopathic remedies that Rachelle recommended and will let you know how it works.
You can purchase a PetMedella kit from their site or on Amazon. The cost is $150.00 which is less expensive than many of the other at-home tests available. I was very impressed with the entire process and feel the results will help me to continue to provide the very best care for Bentley.
I will be testing Pierre soon and will share the results along with how Bentley is progressing.

What an interesting and thorough test! Way to go Bentley, so happy to see your health is in tip top shape! So glad your tolerance to bananas is low because those are just too yummy not to eat! BOL! Looking forward to see how Pierre does! Happy Weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great option for pets with allergy issues. Thankfully none of us have any at this point that we know of. Hope the things you have learned will help Bentley.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, I didn't know they had kits like this.
ReplyDeleteI was just having a conversation with someone yesterday about allergy testing for dogs. This product seems very interesting!
ReplyDeleteWonder if it really works. Our friend tried a different company, changed everything and her pup was still itching. It's definitely worth a try
ReplyDeleteSnorts,
Lily & Edward
I had tried another test a year ago and did not have any faith in the results. These sensitivities make more sense and certainly fit into his reactions. I am very confident in PetMedella.
DeleteThis testing sounds amazing and just what we need to find out Shasta's allergies!
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds like something we need! Oz has terrible allergies; it would be so great to know what he is actually allergic to!
ReplyDeleteIt was so simple and the results were fast. I love they use a holistic approach to treating the allergies.
DeleteThis sounds very interesting - hope it helps Bentley's allergies and it is nice to know he is so healthy otherwise!

What an awesome product! It's amazing how far some of these analytics have come for pets. This seems really easy to use and provides a ton of information. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
That's so interesting! I didn't realize that dogs could be allergic to fruit. Makes me wonder if Henry is allergic to anything!
ReplyDeleteI was suspicious of bananas because I noticed that he began to scratch more after he ate them. I was hoping it wasn't though because he loves them. We will try to re-introduce them later.
DeleteInteresting. Mr. N is allergic to fleas and bee stings, this has me wondering what else he might be allergic to.
ReplyDeleteWow - this sounds like a great service to see what's causing your pet's allergy!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Ty gets seasonal allergies. I had him allergy tested last year and it was inconclusive. I might try this to see how it compares.
ReplyDeleteI find this incredibly fascinating. I wonder if it could figure out Mudpie's asthma triggers? Definitely something I'll be looking into.
ReplyDeleteThe test will definitely let you know the triggers that bother Mudpie.
DeleteThis sounds very interesting. I would love to find out what Arty's allergies are, I'll have to read more about Pet Medelia!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!

Sounds like a simple process, and what quick results. Impressed that they also offer a phone consultation. So glad to hear you have determined Bentley's triggers, makes it so much easier to alleviate his symptoms.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun link up party!
What an awesome idea for home testing of allergies! It's looks easy too. I look forward to hearing about Bentley's results.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this sounds interesting ~ our vet told us that the allergy testing that vets do is often not reliable and WAY too expensive. Ruby's allergies are an ongoing challenge, and this would be interesting to see what they come up with. What wipes do you use to wipe Bentley down with? The vet said that it would be a good idea for Ruby, but she really isn't very cooperative...☺
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥ and Ma
We didn't even know about such tests!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
wow!
ReplyDeleteWish I'd known about them so I might have eased Cole's problems.
Kind if wish I could do this test for myself... wonder if my husband held up my jowl and swabbed under my tongue if they'd tell me what to do with my sensitivities.
As to smoke... I am highly allergic to smoke and my idiot neighborhood are almost all heating with wood. Wood that collects mosquito spray 6 months a year then goes back into the air with burning logs. I come in every night with a sinus headache even though I wear a mask.
The company actually has a test for humans under the name Balanced Health Here is the link via my Amazon affiliate: http://amzn.to/2lCFuc6
DeleteWhat great information!
ReplyDeleteThanks...
Noodle and crew
Great information and the story of our lives, itch and allergies although I have I think finally really narrowed it down and will be smarter in the summer :) Thanks
ReplyDeleteThis is quite interesting Melissa! I had no idea that one could test pets for allergies. I never really thought about it I guess. I have had many a test done on myself...which broke the bank...but this seems quite reasonable for the results that they deliver! Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteThey have a human equivalent as well as the animal test. Both are MUCH less expensive than the doctor or vet.
DeleteGreat info and greater review! Thanks for sharing. We need to look into that health analysis kit.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so helpful - and natural and trustworthy. I always appreciate it when a trusted blogging friend recommends something like this!
ReplyDeleteI hope I can do this for Nelly. She has seasonal allergies as well as a grain allergy. I wouldn't be surprised to learn she has more allergies.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way to test a pet for allergies. I'm curious if Lola has allergies, so I may try this out.
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty neat! Thank you for sharing this. I'm sure it will help a lot of pet parents.
ReplyDeletePetMedella helped us identify what was going on with Lulu's tummy - she was allergic to nearly every protein with the exception of fish! Truly has been a great tool in our arsenal of pet products that help inform of us how best to care for our critters! Glad you and Pierre got to try them out too!
ReplyDeleteInteresting- my human daughters did similar. They had slight banana intolerance too and lots of intolerances. Much of what they changed made sense and it helped a lot with my older daughter so I certainly look forward to hearing about Bentley's progress. Thank goodness no issues with Kilo Pug so far touch wood.
ReplyDeleteIf I had $150, I'd buy this for my mom. Her dog has allergies and we can't seem to find out what is causing the problem.
ReplyDeleteThis is really neat! I hope that now know some of Bentley's allergies that it helps with his itching. I'm going to head over to their site and see if this works for cats too!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome to have an at-home option to get answers to some of these health questions!
ReplyDeleteJan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
I love holistic options. This sounds very interesting. I know Gracie gets seasonal allergies, but I am not really sure if she has other sensitivities. Echo will occasionally have an upset stomach as well. This would be worth looking in to! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThat's FASCINATING, and very, very cool!!
ReplyDeleteInwill be ordering a kit as Houdini is itching non stop
ReplyDeleteThis is great, I love that you can do it at home and I love all the different things it tests for!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is really interesting. I wonder if they have a version of this for cats. It can be so hard to determine a pet's allergies sometimes. They can't tell us when something in particular bothers them like humans can. I'm glad to see that Bentley has so few allergies!
