Bentley Basset Hound:
“Hello
and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. We have fetched the best reports for
you to enjoy so sit back with your favorite beverage and let’s get the top
story from my co-anchor, Pierre.”
Pierre Westie: “Greetings! In our
top story, we salute an army veteran Paul Steklenski of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. As a hobby pilot,
he started the non-profit Flying Fur
Animal Rescue to fly animals from high-kill shelters to rescues where they
can be adopted into forever homes. His license allows him to transport several
animals at a time so it is very efficient. He used his own money to buy the
plane and spends about $1,000 on his monthly rescue flights. Steklenski has
helped save the lives of over 700 dogs so far. We say he is a V.I.P or very
special pilot!”
Bentley: “If you are a cat,
the place to be this past weekend was Boston
Common in Massachusetts for the First
Caturday celebration. It was originally scheduled for Saturday but the
threat of rain caused it to be postponed until Sunday. They were expecting over
a thousand cat lovers to descend on the park with many bringing the feline
friends on leashes or in strollers. It sounds like a purr-fect way to spend an
afternoon with your cat. Did any of you attend? Let us know all about it!”

Pierre:
“Our next story made us smile from ear to ear. It began with a 9-1-1 call
to the police in Berlin, Germany
from a local hospital. Officers were not sure what the emergency was so they
were prepared for anything. As the first car arrived on scene, the officer went
inside to see what was happening. As it turns out, several patients had
reported a tiny hamster wandering around the garden outside of the hospital.
Relieved that it wasn’t a dangerous situation, an office found the hamster and
put him in an empty glove box. They took him back to the precinct where other
officers were quickly smitten by the little guy. They took photos of him next
to their gear, dubbed him Sir Henry
and enjoyed his company before releasing him to a local rescue. The police station
seemed empty without him and two days later they returned to the rescue and
adopted him. Sir Henry is now their official mascot and even has his own
picture ID.”

Bentley: “We all know how
important having a pet to love can be to our senior citizens. We are happy to
announce that Meals on Wheels America
has awarded $300,000 to 193 Meals on Wheels Loves Pets initiative. The money will be used to support current pet
programs or start new ones. They will be able to purchase pet food, supplies,
help with veterinary care, and boarding so elderly pet parents can keep their
dogs or cats. As you know, we don’t get political on our newscast but we hope
Meals on Wheels can continue its good work for a long time.
Now,
let’s check in with everyone’s favorite weather girl, Paisley!”
Paisley the Weather Lab:
“Thanks,
Bentley! I hope that I am still everyone’s favorite after this week’s forecast.
It is going to be pretty miserable for a lot of the country.
The Pacific Northwest will be smoking hot and sunny
for another week. Check with your area for local cooling stations if you don’t
have air conditioning. Our northern states will have some hit and miss storms.
Some could be nasty but not as bad as the monsoon storms expected in the
southwest. Those of you on the west coast will be very hot so stay hydrated and
make sure your pets have fresh water. If you are on the east coast, scattered
storms will have you feeling warm and muggy. The center of the U.S. will be a
hodgepodge of stormy weather and warm cloudy days. Here in the south it will be
hot with more scattered thunderstorms.
I
wish I could give you all sunny skies and perfect temperatures but that is just
not in the forecast this week. Please stay safe and tune into your local
stations for updates and warnings.
Bentley: “It sounds like the
dog days of summer are barking at the door! Thanks, Paisley.
On
behalf of the BFTB news team, I want to say how much we appreciate you joining
us today. Please share our broadcast on your social media.
We
have some exciting things planned for the week so don’t miss a single day of
the fun! Take care of yourselves and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”
