Retractable
leashes. The very mention of them brings on an age-old debate. While it is true
that in the wrong hands, a retractable leash can be dangerous for dogs and
humans, when used properly they can be terrific. It is important to know how to
operate your leash and to make sure that you have a high quality retractable
leash.
I
have had a Flexi Leash for the past three years and love it. That is why when
Chewy.com offered a Flexi Leash for review this month, I jumped at the
opportunity. Let me explain…
We
don’t let Bentley and Pierre out in the backyard in the early morning or after
dark without being on a leash. They seem to think it is the time to bark and
become selectively hard of hearing. That means they must be on a leash although
our yard is fully fenced. I always use my Flexi Leash for Bentley because he
does his business further out in the yard than Pierre. That leaves Pierre on a
shorter leash which really isn’t fair in his opinion. With two Flexi Leashes,
both boys have a full 16’ to sniff out the perfect place for their business. This
leash is perfect for taking them out during the rain. I can stay under the
patio while they make their way out into the yard. Pierre insists on wearing
his stylish rain slicker in inclement weather.
The
Flexi Leash has superior control and security with its one-handed braking system.
It is incredibly comfortable thanks to its ergonomic grip. The durable chromed
snap hook attaches to any collar or harness. There is a strong reflective bite
belt that leads to the 16’ cord leash. Flexi is handmade in Germany and
undergoes 90 quality checks. Pierre’s model is available in sizes X-small to
medium and in lengths 10’ to 26’. Chewy carries different styles, sizes and
colors of the Flexi Leash so you can fetch the perfect one for you and your
dog.
That
kind of variety shouldn’t surprise you though, Chewy.com has something for everybody’s pets
whether it swims, flies, purrs, runs on a wheel or needs a leash to go potty.

either we hate it or we love it... and if they work they have a lot of benefits ;O)
ReplyDeleteThey work great for the Bayou Boys!
DeleteWe don't use them on walks, but we duz use them when we just go out da front to "do our bizness" since we have more room dat way.
ReplyDeleteWe use ours for going out in the yard too. It is perfect for the rainy season!
DeleteOkay, do I need new glasses? I did not see this on the products for this month. We too love our Flexi leashes for many walks where it doesn't matter that we stay close to Mom and there are no people and pets to tangle with. We always use Flexi brand too. Enjoy the extra space to sniff around!
ReplyDeleteI agree! I didn't see it on there either!
DeleteIt was at the bottom of the page where it said continue. I found an entire new page of offers! I had never noticed it before either.
DeleteI don't go outside when it's dark without being on a leash either, even though my yard is fenced in. Mom loves the thought of using it in the rain. I get wet and she stays dry☺ Great review!
ReplyDeleteIt is perfect for mom since she stands under the patio while we dart out to take care of our business! LOL!
DeleteGreat post!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenny!
DeleteI LOVE my flexi leashes but I agree they need to be used by experienced, conscientious people. I use the 26' foot versions and have for years. I love the incredible German workmanship. These leashes last for years and years! I use the ones that are bands (instead of cords) for the whole length. The bands are less likely to cause a burn if they rub your leg.
ReplyDeleteI have had several retractable leashes but none of them compare to the Flexi leash. Bentley's is the tape type and I love it! I do leave the tape extended when it gets wet so it doesn't go back into the body wet.
DeleteGood idea!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great leash for what we use it for and love it.
DeleteThey can work wonders with the right operator. Most of them in my neighborhood aren't in that category but know you know how these things work appropriately.
ReplyDeleteI dread coming upon someone that doesn't know the proper way to use a retractable leash!
DeleteOhhh that is very nice...Mom used to walk our neighbor's dog,Kasi, who was a Border Collie.
ReplyDeleteShe could have really used a thingie like that. Kasi always had her nose to the ground sniffing too
Hugs madi your bfff
The boys love to sniff around in the yard so this is a great way to allow them more leeway than a standard leash.
DeleteWe used flexi leashes in the past, they were handy when we were on wide trails with lots of room for the dogs to roam, and not many other people around. I can see where they'd be very handy to use around the yard too.

We always use retractable leads....three dogs...terriers we should add who like to go in different directions. Never had a problem except at sniffing spots when they want to change positions.
ReplyDeleteFlexi leads are handy when doing potty chores at the obedience trials

Good job Pierre
ReplyDeleteYou're right...flexible leashes can be great if you use it properly. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteGreat review. I always hear bad things about retractable leashes, but when we had a dog, we never had a problem with ours.
ReplyDeleteOur friends with dogs say flexible leashes are good for stuff in the yard, but they do not like them as much for walks on the street and at the park.
