Bentley Basset Hound:
“Greetings
from BFTB NETWoof News. This is our report for the week of October 9, 2017. For
our top story, let’s turn to my co-anchor, Pierre.”
Pierre Westie: “Today our top story
shines a spotlight on the amazing Golden Retrievers from the Lutheran Church Charities K9 Comfort Dogs. Nineteen specially trained
dogs accompanied their 30 human handlers to Las Vegas last week. These dogs were instrumental in bringing much-needed solace to victims after the tragic shooting that left so many dead and other suffering. This group has been on the ground to provide help after Hurricane Harvey and Irma as well as the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012.
dogs accompanied their 30 human handlers to Las Vegas last week. These dogs were instrumental in bringing much-needed solace to victims after the tragic shooting that left so many dead and other suffering. This group has been on the ground to provide help after Hurricane Harvey and Irma as well as the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012.
After
being among so much sadness, the dogs can become depressed. To unwind they get
to play ball and run around outside. We salute this hard-working group and all
rescue/comfort dogs.
Bentley: “This was a week for awesome
rescue stories and we love to share stories about humans doing good for
animals. A police officer in Boca Raton, Florida has rescued 63 cats and
kittens over the past two years. She brings them home, nurses them back to
health and places them in forever homes. She pays for their vet care out of her
own pocket and even bottle feeds those that need it on her breaks from
patrolling. She is a true-blue hero!”

Pierre: “Our next rescue proves
that their ain’t no mountain high enough to stop a rescuer from saving a dog.
People
had reported hearing a dog crying somewhere atop Mt. Bross in Colorado. Trinity Smith decided to attempt to
locate the dog and made the drive/hike up 14,000 feet above sea level. She
could hear the dog but was not able to find it before the sun set. She sought
the help of a friend the following day and they made another trek up the
mountain. It took three hours but they finally found the emaciated dog and
carried it down to safety.
It
turned out that the dog was a missing 14-year-old name Chloe. She had gotten
lost on a walk with her family six weeks prior to her rescue. The family
quickly showed up to thank the rescuers and shower love on their old friend. Chloe is recovering and has gained some of her weight back. She had lost from
90 pounds down to a shocking 26 pounds during her ordeal. Trinity and her friend
have visited Chloe to see how she is doing and are proud to see her back safe
at home.”
Bentley: “I don’t mind
admitting this last story put a lump in my throat. It involves an Iraq war
veteran who suffers from PTSD. He had decided to commit suicide and stepped
outside to smoke his last cigarette. As he finished smoking, he heard crying
from the bushes. A tiny black and white kitten came out and began to rub against
his leg. The veteran sat down in the rain and cried as the kitten comforted
him. From that day forward, he left a can of tuna out for his new lifesaver.
The kitten started recognizing the man’s voice. He would come and visit each
day when the soldier came home from work.
One
day, the cat just disappeared. The man was heartbroken but the bond that he had
developed with his furry friend made him realize that he was capable of loving
and being loved. He began dating a friend from high school.
A
few months later, they went to a pet adoption event. As they walked through,
the veteran felt a paw reach out and swat his leg. He looked and sure enough,
it was his black and white friend! They adopted him immediately and named him
Scout. Since then, the couple has married and Scout now lives happily with
three other cats. That is what we call a happily ever after story.”
Paisley the Weather Lab:
“I
love today’s stories. The last one proves that life can always get better if
you just keep on fighting.
I’m
sure that you are going to enjoy this week’s forecast. It looks as if fall has
decided to make an appearance in many places across the U.S. The Pacific
Northwest is entering their rainy season
so they will be wet and mild. Across the northern states, it will feel much
cooler with partly cloudy skies. Our friends on the east coast can expect rain or
storms most of the week. Along the Gulf Coast, we should continue with warm
temperatures and a chance of scattered rain. Those along the west coast can
enjoy some mild days and overall nice weather. It will actually feel like
autumn in the center of our country!
Always
check with your local meteorologists for updates or warnings. Have a wonderful
week no matter what the weather is outside.”
Bentley: “We hope that you
