BFTB NETWoof News May 7, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for May 7, 2018. We have had our noses to the ground in search of good news. Let’s get right to our top story with my co-anchor, Pierre.”
Dog news anchors with top story on Daring Drone Rescue

Pierre: “Thanks, Bentley. This story has brought both cheers and jeers from social media, but we thought it was interesting. A man in New Delhi claims he heard whimpering from a drain as he was out for his daily walk. Upon further inspection, he realized a puppy was stuck in the mud and muck. The position of the animal would have made it difficult for a human to get down to rescue it so he went back to his laboratory where he builds robots and started working. Six hours later, he had mounted an AI (Artificial Intelligence) arm to a giant drone. The man guided the drone into the ditch and successfully lifted the frightened pup to safety. You can watch the video to decide for yourself if it was a setup or a daring rescue.”
Bentley: “I would have been terrified of the drone and the drain!
There has been a long-running debate on whether dogs or cats are smarter. We try not to take sides in the debate because we know plenty of intelligent dogs and cats. We also know some real boneheads! Anyway, a recent PBS NewsHour turned to science trying to settle the controversy but may have added fuel to the fire!
In their research, they found dogs have twice the neurons or brain cells as cats. That does not make it a smarter animal so the debate rages on. The surprising discovery was that raccoons have brains about the same size as cats but have as many neurons as dogs! That might explain why the masked bandits can figure out how to open containers to forage for food. So, I guess the answer to which is smarter, the cat or dog, the answer is the raccoon!”
Pierre: “I’m sure there are certain calls that police officers dread. One of them must be the report of a vicious dog. That is what a Texarkana, Texas officer was expecting to encounter when he went to investigate. He spotted the large dog laying on a front porch and got out of his patrol vehicle but left the door open in the event he needed to retreat to safety. To his delight, he was greeted by a big old sweetheart of a pit bull. After he gave the dog a pet, it made himself at home in the front of the police cruiser! This photo was posted on their Facebook page and we couldn’t help but smile. We are so glad the officer didn’t react prematurely. The dog whose name is Gold, has been returned to his humans. We appreciate our weather Lab Paisley sending us this story.”
BFTB NETWoof News report on a cat
This is not a photo of Pepper but our Miss Gitty. ♥
Bentley: “This last report was brought to our attention by one of Barking from the Bayou’s regular readers, Debra M. It is a purr-fect story about a wayward airport kitty.
Pepper the cat escaped from her human moments before she was supposed to board a flight from JFK airport in New York to China. She evaded capture and her mom had to catch her flight leaving Pepper behind at the massive airport. The Port Authority was on the case and after a week, she was finally apprehended. A friend is keeping tight reins on the Houdini feline until her Mom returns from her trip overseas.
Let’s send it over to the cutest Weather Lab on the Bayou, Paisley.”
BFTB NETWoof weather with our Weather Lab Paisley
Paisley the Weather Lab: “I think it is safe to say that spring has officially arrived in the U.S. There isn’t any snow predicted this week! As a matter of fact, the southwest could see record-breaking heat. That means lots of water breaks for humans and pets.
The west coast will be nice with some fog in lower California. Across the northern states, you can expect some scattered showers, but it will be mild temperatures and mostly nice all the way to Maine!
Along the east coast, you will have some clouds and a chance of showers but nothing too severe. Here in the south and all along the gulf coast, it will be sunny and warm. The center of the United States will be nice with the possibility of midweek showers.
Overall, it looks like a fantastic week to get outside and enjoy yourself. Always keep an eye to the sky and an ear to your local weather station. Stay safe, my friends.”
Bentley: “That just about does it for us this week. We do want to congratulate Justify for winning the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby. I’d like to say that I bet everything on #7 since it also the number on my hip but they apparently don’t accept dog bones at the Churchill Downs betting windows.
Due to Pierre being under the weather last week, we were not able to post about his new bed. You can count on that happening this week along with a review of some delectable treats. We also have a post for Puppy Mill Action Week that will have you talking! You can always count on some fun from the Bayou.
We appreciate this week's tips to our stories. Please continue to let us know about any good news so we can share it with our audience!
Have a wonderful day and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  13. We guess Pepper wanted to keep all paws on the ground! Can't blame her for that, but her poor Mom must have been so worried!

  14. I love these feel good stories, great picks this week! I think that guy in India would have been smarter to call the authorities rather than make the pup wait for 16 hours before being rescued. But who knows how responsive they might have been, or not, in his area. I love that dog who jumped into the police car! That's a perfect way to catch a loose dog, just open the car door, LOL!

  15. We heard the Pepper story and glad there was a happy ending. As for the drone video, while I applaud its intention, how did the harness get on the puppy? Not sure that was adequately addressed, but very glad the pup now has a better life.

  16. Another wooftastic post my furiends!
Pierre, I do hope you are feeling better.
    Stay safe.
