Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. We have fetched some great stories so let’s check with Pierre for our top story.”
Pierre Westie: “We have covered the fires in California and the devastating loss to life and home. That is why today’s top story is one that will fill your heart with Christmas magic.
Andrea Gaylord had to leave her property in Paradise when the fires burned her home along with most of the town. Her two outdoor Anatolian shepherd mix outdoor guard dogs Miguel and Madison were left behind.
Gaylord contacted an animal rescuer to ask if they could check on her dogs. The rescuer was able to locate Miguel in a shelter some 85 miles away. Madison proved to be a bit more elusive. She spotted the dog but she was too skittish to get close enough for a rescue. They left food for Madison so she could eat. Gaylord was allowed back on the property almost one month after the fire. Her loyal friend Madison was sitting among the ashes of what used to be her home. A more loyal friend would be hard to find.”
Bentley: “It is getting cold and we want to remind everyone of an important winter warning. Many outdoor cats seek warmth during these cold nights and find that heat from the motor or wheelhouse of a car. That is why it’s so important for people to honk the horn before starting the engine. Always give the cat a chance to scat before you crank up.”
Pierre: “There is a lot of trash talk going on about plastic and with good reason. Marine animals are being found dead with plastic in their stomachs. A 31-foot sperm whale was found in Indonesia with two flip-flops, 115 drinking cups, 25 plastic bags, and four plastic bottles. That is so sad. We all need to do our part to keep plastic out of our oceans, lakes, and streams. If your city offers a recycling program, please do your part.”
Bentley: “Speaking of whales, here is one whale of a rescue. Two commercial fishermen were heading back after a day of work when they noticed a humpback whale in distress. The poor thing had gotten tangled in a rope that was attached to a buoy. They called the U.S. Coast Guard but were told it would be hours before they could respond. That is when Nicholas Taron and Sam Synstelien leaped into action…literally.
Sam jumped onto the whale’s enormous back as it struggled. It took some time and a lot of strength but he was able to free the whale. His partner caught the rescue on video. While these two guys are considered heroes, the Coast Guard does warn against these types of rescue because they are so dangerous for the human and the whale.
Paisley the Weather Lab: “Oh the weather outside is frightful and a fire will be delightful especially if you live in New England! The weather is going to be frigid. The snow and cold will continue across the northern states. The northeast can expect snow showers and some midweek snow is going to fall across the Rockies.
Rain will be around in the Pacific Northwest, showers across the center of the country, and late storms here in the south. The weather is changing along with the seasons so stay tuned for updates or warnings from your local stations. Have a wonderful week!”
Bentley: “Thank you for joining us today. We hope you stop by each day as we share more fun. On Thursday, we will celebrate our FIVE YEAR BLOGIVERSARY!! Can you believe that?!?

Wow - that is an amazing video with the whale in distress! Bless that man for helping him out!
ReplyDeleteThat's a happy story about the dogs and the fire. As for plastic, we need to not just recycle, but stop using it so much. Shopping bags and water bottles are huge problems.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhhhhhhhh another devoted Kitty named Madison....I'm so glad she was waiting for her family.
ReplyDeleteDear me I read about the whale too and was so sorry

Wow, oh my goodness, that video rescue is really quite something. Both human and whale got very lucky that day. So glad Madison and owner were reunited. 💜
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think my little furry pack would stay around their home if catastrophe happened so they would not get lost.

What great stories! We had seen the one about the dogs on the news, but they left out some of the details you had. Thanks for sharing, and for reminding people about recycling! We are trying to get plastic out of our lives, but it is SO hard! We at least try to reuse and recycle as much as we can.
