BFTB NETWoof News July 1, 2019

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the first day of JULY! Can you believe it? If it weren’t for the distant fireworks, it’d be hard to convince me that over half the year is gone. This week we were so excited at all of the feel-good stories we were able to fetch. Let’s see what Pierre has for us.”

Pierre Westie: “It was difficult which story we should choose for the top story, but I think you’ll agree that this one is very special.
You might have seen the heartbreaking photo of a pup that was abandoned along with a recliner and an old television like a piece of garbage on the side of the road.

The good folks at Brookhaven’s Animal Rescue League in Mississippi were able to rescue the starving 4-month-old pup and named him LA-Z-Boy Gatson. Thanks to the photo, his story went viral and caught the attention of the LA-Z-Boy® company.
The company was so impressed with the rescue’s work saving animals that they have made a cash donation to them. That’s not all though! They are also donating 50 dog beds to the rescue to ensure all the dogs have a comfy place to rest and dream of their forever homes. They are even considering making an outdoor dog bed named The Gatson and including the pup in the launch. Thanks for being awesome LA-Z-Boy!”
BTFB NETWoof News on ocean
Bentley: “We all know that our oceans and lakes are polluted. Trash and other contaminants cause harm to sea life but some humans are making a difference in Florida.
A group of 633 divers spent two hours cleaning the ocean floor around Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier and made a huge haul! It’s estimated they removed more than one and a half tons of trash including 1,600 pounds of lead weights and 60 pounds of fishing line. This is the fifteenth clean-up but the first to set a record for the amount of trash removed.
Can you imagine if humans did this to all of our waterways? I know the fish and other sea creatures appreciate it!”

Pierre: “You know they say opposites attract and best friends come in all shapes and sizes. That’s true with Bentley and me. We are two different speeds and sizes but inseparable buddies. Our next story definitely illustrates that love knows no boundaries.
A rhesus monkey has rescued a tiny puppy in Rone, India. The locals have been amazed as they’ve watched the monkey defend the pup from other strays. Some people began leaving food for the unlikely duo and couldn’t believe it when the monkey allowed the pup to eat first each time. The two are always together and are a wonderful example of unconditional love.”
Golden Eagle photo credit: National Park Service
Bentley: “We always love to share the good news about animals that haven’t been seen in a while. The National Park Service in Santa Monica announced that a pair of Golden Eagles were born and are thriving at 12-weeks-old. The last golden eagle nest was spotted in the late 1980s.
The chicks left the nest but most return within four years to establish their own nesting area. Since humans are their biggest threat, the birds tend to shy away of close encounters. We wish them luck.
Speaking of luck, any chance we will have some great weather this week, Paisley?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather
Paisley the Weather Lab: “Y’all know that I’ve been telling you this week would arrive and it is finally here! You should be feeling like it is the middle of summer no matter what part of the United States you live.
The Pacific Northwest and the Rockies will have scattered storms as will New England. It’s the rest of the country that is going to feel the heat. I am sending cool thoughts to the girls at My GBGV Life because it is forecasted to be warm and muggy in Minnesota. They prefer the snow to sweat and I can’t blame them.
I’m calling for a hot and humid week everywhere else. That means to remember your sunscreen and have a wonderful sweltering 4th of July! Of course, be sure to check with your local meteorologists for any warnings or updates. You know the weather can be a fickle friend this month.
Bentley: “Don’t forget to enter for a chance to win one of three Dr. Harvey’s prize packs. Our lucky winners will receive a bag of Coconut Smiles, two trial size dog foods, and grooming essential of your choice. It is fantastic and we really want you to win!
We’d once again like to thank Ann from Zoolatry for the pawsome badges she created to help us share July’s important holidays. These are free to use and she doesn’t ask for credit. At this time, we’d like to wish our neighbors to the north a Happy Canada Day!

Please join us for Wednesday’s Pet Parade blog hop so we can share some important 4th of July tips. On Friday we are joining Rosy from LLB in Our Backyard when we share Mom and Dad’s scenic bike ride for their Nature Friday blog hop. Until then, please have a wonderful time and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  4. Our heat wave turned into a rain deluge. We are seriously drowning in rain this year. It is such a bummer it is not in the form of snow as that would be really fun! Thanks for all the positive news! Have a great week!

  5. Kudos to La-z-boy for their generosity. It's always heartwarming when corporations get involved helping out animals. We're hoping for some showers to cool off the pizza oven hot temps from last week. Here's wishing you a safe and happy fireworks-free week.

  9. I feel so sorry for the puppy left behind; would it be great if authorities could track down the people?

  11. Happy July. Your reporting was just wonderful. That was a lot of trash those divers had to get out for cleaning the ocean. The monkey and puppy are best buddies. What a bond they have already. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day and enjoy your upcoming holiday.
