BFTB NETWoof News August 12, 2019

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of August 12, 2019. We have some good stories to help put a smile on your face today so let’s toss it over to my co-anchor, Pierre, for our top story.”
BFTB NETWoof News Top Story
Pierre Westie: “Thanks, Bentley and welcome to all of our friends! Our top story made me grin when it came across my desk. It is from Switzerland which is known for its wonderful people like our friends, The Swiss Cats.

First of all, you need to understand that the people of Switzerland love their guinea pigs. Many people consider them part of the family the same way we think of dogs and cats here in America. That is why it’s illegal to have only one guinea pig. They get lonely without another of their own species so if you want one, you’d better really want two! If the unthinkable happens and one crosses the Rainbow Bridge, there are places where you can rent a guinea pig until you can add another one to your family.
I think it’s a terrific idea. It would be difficult being an only dog even though a certain Basset does try to hog the belly rubs, I still can’t imagine life without him.”

Bentley: “Right back at ya, Pierre.
Our next story is for our friends in North Carolina or those planning a vacation there with their pets. Beginning in September, dogs, and cats will be allowed in breweries and taprooms. The bill allows pets in establishments as long as they are not preparing food on the property. That means if you want to bring your best friend with you for a brewski and some peanuts, it’s all good in North Carolina. We need to discuss a road trip there soon, am I right?”

Pierre: “This next story is not new but today is World Elephant Day and it shows how amazing these gentle giants are in real life.
Yatta is an 18-year-old elephant that was rescued and cared for by workers at a sanctuary in Kenya. She was released back into to the wild over eight years ago. During those years, she gave birth to two healthy babies. Both times, Yatta walked back to the sanctuary with her young ones to show them off to her former family.
They say that elephants never forget and we hope they always remember how special they are in our world.”

Bentley: “Over the past few years we here at BFTB have tried to keep you updated with the latest information about service animals and airline policies.
Last year, Delta airlines would no longer allow ‘Pit Bull type’ dogs on board as service or support animals. Last week, the Department of Transportation announced that ALL dogs must be allowed to serve as service/support animals. Discrimination is wrong no matter where it rears its ugly head. Of course, the main thing is for people to quit trying to pass off dogs that are not properly trained as service animals.
Let’s check in with Paisley for this week’s forecast.”
BFTB NETWoof Weather
Paisley the Weather Lab: It is a typical week for mid-August.
The west coast states will be hot and sunny with a few scattered showers in the Pacific Northwest.
The northern states can expect some stormy weather. It’ll be sunny and warm on the east coast with scattered storms and humidity creeping in the closer you get to Florida. The Gulf Coast states will be sweltering in the triple digits.
Those of you in the southwest will need to stay alert for monsoonal storms. Please follow the safety precautions recommended by your local meteorologists.
I hope that everyone has a fabulous week and take care in these high temperatures. Again, stay tuned to your local stations for any weather updates or warnings.”

Bentley: “We are being heat smart by limiting our time outdoors. As senior dogs, we know that the heat can be especially hard on us. It’s important that we get out in the mornings and evenings but stay in the air conditioning in the afternoon.
There are several upcoming holidays that we wanted to remind you about and share these awesome badges from Zoolatry. Feel free to share them on your blog or social media!
Have you entered for a chance to win one of two My Pet DMV ID cards and tags? We love ours and can’t wait to show our friends that we have our very own driver’s license! Entering is easy and don’t forget to come back each day for your free entries.
We look forward to seeing you again this Wednesday and Friday for more fun. Please share our news with your friends so we can bring smiles to more people. Have a great week and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  3. The G-pigs are so cute, my grands always had two, Oreo & Milky Way and loved them to bits! Thanks for sharing the Events Badges and we especially loved the story of the elephants, what wonderful "critters" they are!

  4. Mom says she always found it odd how many people had Guinea Pigs in Germany, and they would get them spayed, took them in for vet exams regularly, treated them just like cats and dogs. It is a good place to be if you are a Guinea Pig.

  5. Way to go North Carolina. I;m following the Delta Airlines story and therapy dogs. Last I heard, they were 'reviewing' the ruling by Transportation Dept. Breed specific legislation is just wrong!

  8. I heard about the Delta Airlines thing...glad they've been reprimanded! We have muggy air right now; big storm coming in tonight, and the humidity will drop.

  9. We never knew any of that about guinea pigs. Do you think there is a guinea pig police who check to see if anyone has only one of them? Just think of the possibilities? There could be entire detective TV shows about the guinea pig police! I'll leave that with you and your readers to figure out what we should call those shows. This could be fun!

  13. What great stories this week, guys! I did not know that guinea pigs are happier in pairs, and good for Switzerland for making sure they are well taken care of (though I agree with CLW above, that has to be a tough thing to police!! :)
